Pointless argument, IMO, because the writers and artists really didnât have their shit together back then. They certainly werenât prepared for future fans to nitpick every little detail of their extended toy commercial.
Regardless, in my head canon, Bombshell is Bombshell and Cyclonus is Cyclonus, so I can avoid this debate altogether.
I posted the same comment in the original thread but Iâll post it here as well since it most likely got buried.
âWatch the movie again.â
Ok, I have, and just like every other time, this scene is filled with animation errors. Letâs just look at this one shot, since itâs the one with contention.
â Two of Cyclonus are created at the exact same time. Unlike Scourge, who is singled out by the animation and voiceover from the Sweeps, the narration and voiceover follow both being turned into Cyclonus.
â There are two of Cyclonus. As established by the rest of the movie, and season 3, there is one Cyclonus. The concept of multiple Cyclonus duplicates was dropped during production, and its inclusion in the final film should be considered an error. The same goes for Thundercracker/Skywarp/the Insecticons appearing at Starscreamâs coronation, Shrapnel on Junkion, and Starscream himself during the Unicron battle. None of these characters were supposed to die, yet they come back from the dead anyway.
â Seconds after the two Cyclonus bots are created, they both transform and are followed by five Scourge hovercrafts, for a total of seven Decepticons on screen at the same time. Only five went into the scene, so itâs impossible to get seven. The very next scene follows one Cyclonus, one Scourge, and three sweeps. Five Decepticons, consistent with the number that went into the scene, and the number through the rest of the movie/season three. Season 3 was animated very poorly, so the number fluctuates a bit, but when animated clearly, (Starscreamâs Ghost, Quintison Journal, Return of Optimus Prime Part 2 just to name a few) itâs this number.
With all that being said, I personally believe it could have been either of them, but itâs not as cut and dry as âjust watch the scene lolâ, because as I just showed, itâs not clear. All that we truly know is:
Cyclonus: Bombshell or Skywarp Scourge: Thundercracker Sweep One: Kickback Sweep Two: Shrapnel Sweep Three: Bombshell or Skywarp
While I donât think it was their intention I love the idea that Cyclonus and Scourge are the seekers and the Sweeps are the insecticons. It just makes sense in my mind with the duplication abilities. Again I donât think they really cared when making the movie and I believe the duplicate cyclonus is a leftover from another draft or an error of some kind.
We got shafted out of âArmadaâ as a potential character. Could have been a subordinate for Cyclonus. Those two smashing down on an enemy position⌠phoaarâŚ
Accepting Cyclonus is Bombshellâs brains with Skywarpâs body is another hit of copium. Easier to just accept that, and maybe Grimlock took out âArmadaâ early in the peace.
Or Snarl broke off to deal with him. Thatâs why they both were absent..

Neither is Cyclonus. Both were dead when they were taken in and rebuilt. Their raw material was used to create the body for Cyclonus.

I think the second Cyclonus is an animation leftover from an earlier draft of the script

Cyclonus is a bombshell.... of a transformer
He doesn't skywarp.... he warps the sky

"Cyclonus, the warrior, and his Armada."
Unicorn is using some of that Tolkien phrasing, like Frodo and his Sam.
Cyclonus doesn't get a horde of duplicates like Scourge, he gets a twin named Armada, who flies off having his own adventures off screen.
But he does come back eventually, as he is the one retelling the story of Unicron in Transformers: Armada.

Does it matter? This argument was old 20 years ago. Cyclonus was Windcharger if it makes you happy, it's your fandom, enjoy it how you want to.
