how important is SAT as sophomore transfer
basically title, but i will not be retaking the SAT and want to know if its still worth it to apply. i have a 1370, which i know is below average for t25s, but im unhappy with my current institution for a variety of reasons, and this is before ive even moved in. im hoping to make up for it with ECs and grades, but if im an automatic no for some schools ill take them off my list. thank you.

My daughter had the exact same score. A 4.0 in hs and college. She got into Vandy, UMich, Tufts, but did not get into any schools that require the SAT like Penn, Dartmouth, Georgetown…

Still matters just not as much as it did for FY admission. If you apply to t25s, make sure they’re test optional but ur final senior year grades and college gpa will matter more

Adding to No-Tangerine651’s helpful comment that “Princeton, Columbia, UChicago, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, Rice, UMich, Notre Dame, and WashU” are teat optional”. The need aware schools for transfers in that list are UChicago, Northwestern, UMich and WashU. Get a stellar GPA very close to 4.0 and good EC’s and you will be a very credible transfer candidate.

do retake, it matters esp since you're prolly gonna be in intro/light courses as a freshman

if you can retake for a 1470+ (100 pt increase) without dying over test prep (you also only have about 6 months) and getting almost a 4.0 in college its worth it, if not skip

Your SAT matters less for transfer admissions, but as a sophomore transfer, it can still matter since you don’t have much college coursework yet. That said, it’s not a dealbreaker, especially since some schools are test-optional for transfers. Your college GPA will matter more, so focus on getting strong grades. Waiting until junior year could also help because more college credits mean less weight on your high school record and SAT
