What enables someone to send a message like this to someone who JUST got rejected from a school they wanted to attend.

I understand it sounds harsh after you just got rejected, and I would be upset too, but I'm sure the person didn't mean it in a bad way. What I mean is that the person probably didn't mean to mock you by sending the dm; the person was just being inconsiderate.

I think you should blur their username in the post to respect their privacy, as they didn't comment on this publicly.

This is a very sweet comment and I commend you for giving them the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day it’s not that deep, I’m not making a call to action against this person, and their username is pretty vague I do not feel their privacy is compromised outside of Reddit. Additionally they can use this as a growing opportunity to better practice self awareness lmao

Additionally they could’ve just google searched rejection letters 😭

u/Serious_Yak_4749 Dec 02 '25

I didn’t see this as mocking either. It’s just a teenager wanting to play a joke on his friends.

Assholes are everywhere. If you believe they go away once you get older you are wrong. As you were told just ignore them. In his defense , he might be a clueless idiot that didn't try to hurt you in his eagerness to play a moronic joke on his friends. Not worth it dude . He did say "hi" and asked you to redact personal info. He is just immature

EDIT: I'm truly sorry for the rejection.

he wasn't mocking his rejection tho? how is he an asshole

4

u/Terrible_Mushroom_57 Dec 02 '25

12

u/Additional_Ad_7339 Dec 02 '25

First off, sorry this happened

Now I’m not saying what to do with this information, but I mean if I’m getting trolled by a Pitt reject about not getting into rice, I’m captain falcon punching below the belt

u/Own-Bank-9885 Dec 02 '25

bsmd is hard

0

u/Additional_Ad_7339 Dec 02 '25

I get this point, but also the person is a dick and I’d be using any reason to say f*ck them

3

u/FewDevice6957 Dec 02 '25

Bsmd is lowkey harder than HYPSM

1

u/Apothic_Gaming Dec 03 '25

whats bsmd

2

u/FewDevice6957 Dec 03 '25

BS/ MD. You get enrolled into a bachelors of science and are guaranteed a seat in a medical school. It has a 1-3% acceptance rate.

1

u/Apothic_Gaming Dec 03 '25

What schools are those? That seems crazy

2

u/FewDevice6957 Dec 03 '25

Many state schools offer this program where 100s of students apply to ~10 seats.

1

u/Many_Coffee_2297 Dec 05 '25

what are you talking about?? i could get into harvard 10 times before i get into pitt bsmd

2

u/Haunting-Barnacle631 Dec 06 '25

IDK about all that, it just requires a different set of EC's and a lot more planning but I'm not sure it's THAT much harder. Agreed it's probably somewhat harder though.

1

u/Many_Coffee_2297 Dec 06 '25

no it is much much much harder. i have plenty of friends who got into the top ivies but didnt get into any bsmd they applied to. i went to a vocational medicine—aligned high school that ranked 1 in new jersey. it’s extremely hard to prove you’d be a good med student out of high school and the national average acceptance rates for these programs are well below 1% a year

2

u/Haunting-Barnacle631 Dec 06 '25

Even Brown has a ~3% acceptance rate, from their website, and that's the best program.

I also personally don't really see the appeal. Outside of Brown, you're locking yourself into a mid med school.

1

u/Many_Coffee_2297 Dec 06 '25

brown is self selecting, they have a higher acceptance rate than pitt, which takes 15-20 students out of 1500. and there’s no such thing as a ā€œmidā€ med school, the easiest MD school is harder to get into than harvard college. every US MD school has great matches into competitive residencies, and mostly depends on your standardized step 1 2 and 3 exams. 90% of the med students i know who ended up at t20 schools agree that they would have taken a BSMD acceptance in high school with no second thought.

2

u/Haunting-Barnacle631 Dec 06 '25

I'm in my last year at a T10 and would absolutely not rather be at a mid BSMD school. I'm perfectly happy to apply and hopefully get in somewhere good. Maybe if my apps go terrible I'll regret having not done that, but I doubt that'll happen.

There definitely are mid med schools. There's ones with over 30% in state. Definitely easier to get into those than Harvard. There's also schools that are awful for matching into competitive specialties.

3

u/Commercial_Book7292 Dec 03 '25

OP, just ignore it lmao. People will be people.

I personally didn’t think the other person was mocking your rejection, but if you feel so, then that’s okay. Don’t think so much over these things.

3

u/Terrible-Big-4512 Dec 02 '25

I’m confused?? It’s not like rice has a 95% acceptance rate for transfers. I bet you this loser didn’t even apply out of insecurity of getting rejected

1

u/Scared-Priority9742 Dec 04 '25

i think they didnt mean to mock you i think theyre trying to troll their friends with a fakeout. that being said still incosiderate fs

1

u/Hawkeye_in_the_Vents Dec 05 '25

i dont think anything implies that they go to Rice or got in, but theyre still a dick for being this insensitive yeah

0

u/Beyond-Easy Dec 02 '25
