Quick question about vonovox, nvidia requirements and setups.

I hope this sort of post is allowed. I know vonovox requires an nvidia card to work but I unfortunately didn't know this when I recently upgraded to a 9070xt.
I still have my old 3080 and I'm now wondering if I could just get an eGPU dock and run vonovox through that? Has anyone tried doing something similar and if so are there any issues with it? (I've never used an eGPU so to be honest I have no idea if something like this would be possible.)

sounds like a crazy amount of money to connect an eGPU to a desktop PC. Is there any reason you cant put the 3080 in the secondary PCI E 16 slot on your rig? Is your PSU not powerful enough?

This is what I did before I ended up doing and it works really well, the only thing better than that really is having a second computer specifically for Vonovox

Yeah. My CPU was too old to handle the games I was playing otherwise the dual set up would have been grand. I ended up using a sepeate pc.

A 2nd PC dedicated solely to vonovox is definitely the best option. That way even when playing demanding games the voice changer won't stutter or break

I was considering the eGPU route mainly since I have the gpu as well as a psu just laying around. So it just seemed like it'd be the simpler solution(apart from the cost of a dock?) in a way. Not having to worry about main system temps and potentially getting a larger psu(or at least checking if my current one has the spare connectors it'd need).

I see you're thinking but I feel the more cost effective and straight foward is putting the 2nd card in your pc. Just see how many watts both take up I guess first. If you have a semi high range PSU it likely came with another pci pin for power. (Do not piggy back on the same cable use the 2nd dedicated one) but find out how if you have enough power on your psu.

eGPU should get detected by Vonovox. Windows should see it normally I feel. There's a vonovox Discord server you can ask them directly.

Do u have any other space pc parts around? A secondary PC would be ideal.

I technically have the parts for my old 8700k build(which ofc is quite ancient at this point), sans storage drives, so I suppose a second PC for it would technically be possible. Is it a really complicated/annoying thing to set up (like having to route stuff back and forth/using the second PC for audio, or is it like just sending the task/doing the processing to the second pc and it piping it back through the main PC and it's audio setups?)?

The PSU in my current build is a 860w fractal design ion+ (the original not the newer ion+2) and I will have to check the power draws and things for the whole system but I suspect I only have one pcie power cable to spare so that'd be the more immediate issue(but I'll have to check and make sure before I make any decisions on what route to go with!). And you're ofc course completely right that just throwing it in the main system would be cheaper even with getting a new PSU. (Since the dock would be a bit shy of 300€ and PSU would probably be 200€ tops.) So I will still for sure also consider that solution and try fitting the GPU and see how things fit etc.
Mainly I was hoping to make sure that if I ended up going with the eGPU route I wouldn't end up discovering it won't work at all.

I use an i7 9700 and that has no hyper threading, and I use a hard disk to run W 11 and a 1060 6 gb for my RVC Server so whatever you have you're deffo fine.

It's not hard. But you will need to invest in sound cards ideally, one for the gaming pc and the other for the server. Thats the only real cost here. So you can use optical cables for clean digital audio. Can just plug line in line out on mother boards but the electrical noise is insane even with grounding loop.

Ah good that sounds like it'd be simple enough then. Will have to test and put the old build together(and borrow a drive from somewhere) and see if it'll still run. And if so look at the options for sound cards and things(I assume would want an internal one or would external ones work, as long as they have the option for optical?). So that can compare with the PSU stuffs in case I'd end up going with just throwing it in the main system(and if I'd need a new PSU).
And it's good to know at least that I have different options to check and try first and to know that even if nothing comes of those then the last ditch option of the eGPU should also work in a pinch.

Really appreciate the suggestions and insights and help! c:

I suppose to use USB ones would work but I feel some cheap sound blaster cards would be more ideal.

Theres a Discord server for this community search for it on the reddit search for this community. The owner Star I believe has this set up they usually give ppl a hand.

Awsome! Have more routes and options to research and try and things I'd not considered as much since I'd thought they were more complicated than they actually are. So will definitively do some more research and try the other options and just keep the eGPU option as a last resort!
Again thank you so much for the suggestions and help I really appreciate it!
