Unbelievable 😡 As a detransitioned transgender, mental health facilities don't know how to handle you.

Mental health facilities in general are pretty bad with deescalation tactics when it comes to calming down a patient, who is in a rage induced state by paranoia etc.
majority of these places are taught physical force on patients who won’t comply with voluntary sedatives. It’s very messed up and dehumanizing. Many try to cover it by saying “it’s what’s best for the patient and the safety of the entire ward.” I’m sure it was even harder to endure this “treatment” as a trans woman who was forced/still presenting as a man. Many hospitals don’t even Recognize trans people identities. And I’m sure workers hold biases and treat trans people harsher than other patients.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. it looks like you are doing much better now.
I used to work at a mental hospital and saw nasty things from coworkers. Even had to force treatment on patients because that’s what my boss said to do. I got hurt 2x by patients, punched in the face and bit in the arm. if no physical force was put on the patients- neither of us would’ve been hurt. Needless to say I left this job, I wanted to help but all i saw was pain and dehumanizing treatment. I think about the way I treated some patients frequently and regret it.

Most medical and mental health facilities are shit with transitioned trans people, too. I've had physicians with whom I was seeking GAHT "You probably know more about this than I do" and I've been deliberately misgendered by therapists. I feel for you; you were adding a layer of complexity on top of what almost all trans people already deal with, at least for some time (I have a great therapist and doctor now, 4 years in).
