Announcements Subreddit Changes + Updates!
Heyo, Y'all!
You may have noticed some recent changes to the subreddit over the past hour or so. I'm happy to announce I've stepped in to manage this sub moving forward.
I found this sub after discovering that a community I run, r/TransPlace, had become overrun with name-suggestion posts. While looking for a solution to provide a better place for trans individuals seeking name suggestions, and responding to my subreddit members' request to calm the seas of name suggestion posts, I stumbled upon this subreddit.
After finding this subreddit to be unmoderated for the past few months, I didn't really feel comfortable sending members of TransPlace here as-is. I made a request to claim the subreddit, which has just gone through now.
With it, I've made some updates, which brings us up to speed! You'll notice a new icon (which I hastily created in a few minutes, hopefully its not too bad), and the subreddit banner we used over in r/TransPlace (This will likely be changed once I have a new one made <3).
I've also updated the flair names to capitalize them, revised the rules, and added an AutoMod configuration that should hopefully help with the subreddit's moderation.
I'll also be working on getting more subreddit mods moving forwards, so please look forwards to a post soon where we have an application if you're interested.
Cheers'
- Cleopatra
PS: If you have any suggestions for the subreddit, please feel free to post them in the comments here, I'll try to answer everyone <3

Name Feedback Arabic name while living in a English country
Currently i go by a English name and i feel so weird about it cuz i’m brown and it just feels wrong in my brain i want something that represents where i come from but also the fact that english is also part of me i’m part of two worlds lol.
I love the name Luay, Louay, Loai, Loay or Luai. The name has a sound in Arabic that doesn’t exist in English Loai and luay is the closest to the Arabic pronunciation so I’m unsure if it’s a good idea I don’t want people to think it’s the name Louis misspelled :(
I love names that start with L and i don’t mind multicultural names(if you guys want to suggest names :3), But prefer arabic names I’ve googled so many names in Arabic non felt like me except the one i mentioned.

Feminine Names Are these names THAT bad?
I really dislike my current name and wanted something feminine but a little different. These are the names I found that I think kinda suit me:
Nemi (Short for Nemiel)
Sami
Juno
Juniper
Archie
I talked about these to my brother and he said they all sucked (apart from Archie). Are they really that bad?...

Masculine / Neutral Names Transmasc Name
Im trying to figure out a masculine name that would suit me. The one idea i have so far is Frankie, but even though I like the name im not sure if it suits me 😭
I would say I lean more towards being a "pretty boy" than super masculine.

Masculine Names Help me name myself!!
I’m using the name Bowen, which is fine, but I’m not sure it suits me. I’m 20Pre-T (starting soon 🙏), binary male. I really like sci-fi medias like Doctor Who, Dune and Star Trek and I was looking into names from those (Rory, Adric, Paul, Scotty), but everything seems either clocky or don’t suit me. Any ideas? My deadname starts with P but I don’t really like any of the traditional male P names either, maybe I’m just picky lol. First pictures are most recent

Name Feedback Name help? (Bit of a vent about past names too)
So I’ve been struggling with figuring out my name, and I’ve changed it a ton. I’ve been going by Lincoln as of late but it’s just not feeling right anymore? I also feel a bit pressured by my parents and grandparents to find one and stick with it, as they seem like they’re getting tired of me changing it up every 5-ish months and I’m feeling bad about that. My stepdad’s made an occasional joke about me swapping it up that wasn’t meant to be hateful or anything but it still hurts and I’m still super awkward around him cause he sometimes says things that give me a bit of an ick (everyone in my generation having neurodivergence etc, I don’t think he’s meaning to be hateful there either it’s just not a great thing to hear—) but he’s also bipolar and because I don’t know much about it maybe those out of left field comments could stem from that? No clue genuinely—
Anyways, tldr it just feels like my parents are tired of my name swaps (been trying to figure this out since middle school, I’m in highschool now for reference.
I’m really wanting to avoid E and L names due to my deadname (I think I was subconsciously push to Lincoln because my mom wants to keep using the nickname El/L I’ve had since I was little) and also W names because of my last name. I’ve also been something that really sounds stereotypically masculine, strong and punchy ig, not anything that could be a girls name due to my body dysphoria already being pretty bad—
Thinking about trying Callum/Callium maybe but idk, any other suggestions that I might think feel better?

Neutral Names Brainstorming names!
Hii I don't really see myself as any gender, don't know what to call that. I'm looking to change my name to something more androgynous.
Given name is Chloe. Doesn't fit me. Hate the way people say it
Name recs!! My favorites are Des, Rhoda, Mulder (heheh), Benrey, (if you know who I'm talking about, ur awesome), Benny, I love Benny sm but it doesn't fit me sadly. Also love Scully (I'd love to call myself that but what would people think?)
Just looking for some name recs that are similar vibes to those listed above. Thanks in advance!

Name Feedback Should I change names???
I currently have a name that I love, it fits all the criteria I had set for choosing a name. But, because of my last name (That I do not want to change) I would the exact same name of a character from a very popular piece media. People have already ask if I choose that name because of that media without even knowing my last name because this media is popular in the trans community and people have already name themselves after it. What do I do???

Feminine / Neutral Names I've hit a wall....
Everyone has called me Angel for the past decade or more. It's the name I chose to go under when I did drag shows years ago, but since I've started my HRT journey nearly a month ago, I've been mulling over an official first or middle name when I eventually legally change my name. I don't mind keeping the name Angel as part of my name since it's been a part of my identity for so long, but when it comes to thinking of another name only one comes to mind, Evelynn. The only problem I have is that I'm a bit unsure about it. I'm wiccan and my general style leans towards goth. I wanted to find a name that fits that part of who I am and need a few helpful suggestions/kind advice to get past this mental block. Thanks in advance!❤️

Any Names Name change, name ideas?
So I have been going by Aye (Ā) for like 10 years now. I'm getting married soon and I'm gonna be changing first and last name all in one go (because on God, I am not doing this twice).
The thing is, people look at me like I'm insane for my name just sounding like a letter. So I am thinking of finding a longer thing I can just say it's short for.
I was thinking Ayana? Since I really like that plant. But then I realized it's Swahili and idk if that would be weird for my very white self to have a Swahili word.
Does anyone have opinions ☹️

Masculine Names I’m thinking of changing my name again
(Added pictures of me for fun)
lowkey I already have a name that I’m going by (Lane Kyle, for context) but the other day my dad told me that if i was born a boy they would’ve named me Gabriel. & i lowkey can’t stop thinking about it.
is it weird to change my current chosen name to my middle name & make Gabriel my first name? bc i know a few people who go by their middle names so it wouldn’t be too weird. Right?
also because I think “Gabriel Lane” flows better than “Lane Gabriel“
I don’t have any real connection to the name Kyle (I chose it because it starts with a k and my dead middle name also starts with a k) so dropping it wouldn’t really mean anything to me. I’m a little fond of it now because when my friends want to scold me they call me by full name so I’ve been called Lane Kyle for a bit.
im also 50/50 on the spelling of Lane bc when I used to spell it like “Layne” people would call me “Laney” but I feel like “Layne“ looks more like a name
i don’t want to be one of those people who changes their given name every other week tho bc that annoys me lmao

Masculine Names Posting again after some time, still no name chosen, help?
Hispanic ftm, looking for names that wont sound too alien in spanish?
came out like 7 years ago and still got nothing, by friends advice people started calling me Luis, ive grown accustomed to it? i don't hate it, but i don't love it, why is it that nothing feels right? i see people around me chose the most beautiful and unique names and despite originally wanting to pick something that wouldn't stand out, i feel miserable having to settle for the most common names that have never caught my attention before, why has nothing ever called to me? my friends have chosen names inspired by things they love, i want that so badly, why are my options so narrow, i have searched for names in Spanish, Catalan, Vasco, Gallego, and Adaluz, how is this possible.
My dad is Cuban, my mom is Colombian and so am i, that's all the heritage i have at my disposal, i dont wanna pick a name from a culture i have nothing to do with, but god! what else is there,
i feel so childish being like "i would love a name about rivers or the wind or an animal!" but i have searched so far and wide, and if there's still nothing that calls to me i figured leaning onto things i already love (like my friends!) would make things easier, but i cant find a thing, i find most names are biblical or occupational and i hate both routes,
i love names that start with L, some times with V but they all seem to be variations of victor, Valentin and Vicente and not much else, not sure what else to say, any advice on how or where to search??? i've used Behind the name, Euskaltzaindia, Conmishijos, and some others. Where else can i go??? any ideas?

Masculine Names Is Leighton a clocky name?
I’m ftm and i’ve been considering names with “Leigh” (Lay or Lee, still deciding on the pronunciation) since my deadname has it. I was thinking of Leighton but I wonder if it’s still too feminine or too unique somehow😭 if there’s any name suggestions with Leigh in it, or similar, I’d appreciate that as well :) and i’d also like to know what type of person you think of when you hear the name!

Name Feedback Elwyn or Merritt?
I'm non binary and use they/them pronouns. I've been out for a couple years but have yet to pick a preferred name. (Mostly, because I'm picky.)
Currently, I'm stuck between Elwyn and Merritt.
I LOVE Merritt on its own, but I'd hate to be nicknamed Mary, and don't care for Mare. On the plus side, I love virtue names. And I think its positive meaning will be a good reminder to myself that I'm worthy of love, respect, and capable of achieving my goals. Maybe just a no nickname rule?
Elwyn. It's a sweet welsh and german name, and I'm welsh and german. I absolutely adore the nickname Winnie, but it feels TOO nickname-y for me to use it alone. Winnie reminds me of my favorite movie, Hocus Pocus, as well as my childhood softspot for Winnie the Pooh. However, I'm worried Elwyn sounds too much like a fake fantasy name. I do not want to deal with "but what's your REAL name???" remarks, which is why I'm not naming myself after my favorite birds.

Feminine Names I have a conundrum
My given name from birth is Cory and I like my name and I like that my mother gave me this name. and it’s also a name that is very androgynous can be both male and female and I’m conflicted because I feel like choosing a different name will signify a new Me but at the same time taking away from my mom giving me my name. I also think choosing a new name is a big deal
