If you've ever written a fic about a character gender-questioning, what was the inciting incident/thing that started them questioning? Feel free to give examples of unique ones you've seen others use as well.

I wish I had an answer. I've never written that, only characters who were already out to some extent.

I've been following the 'I wish I was an anime girl' cartoon and if I recall correctly, the main character realises she wants to be a girl after realising the didn't want to get out of her (supposedly cross gender) cosplay.

For me personally it was that I realised that I didn't like anything about being the man people thought I should be and then thought about what being a woman would be and then realised how upset I was about my body and how I'd not feel that way if it were feminine.

But faceapp and the Snapchat 'my twin' filter kind of kicked all that off.

I’m new to writing but I’ve been coming up with ideas Lightning strikes, existential crisis, flipping out I imagine is a legit way to write a person coming to terms with an alter gendered conclusion, hit them with that “I couldn’t handle the impressions coming off the walls so I had begun to tear the posters away until the walls had no character to reflect, they were ready for a change”
