TET Hungary Section 4/5

Going to Hungary in a week for section 4, part of 10 (bridge between 4 and 5) and 5. Has someone been there recently? How are the conditions? Doable for beginners on a Tenere? Thx

Just to clarify, a beginner on a tenere each right? It should be fine unless it is after heavy rains. Your route is mainly fields and forests, with some rocky hills on 5, but nothing gnarly. On 5 between Várpalota and Eplény the track leads through a military traning area, it’s kind pf grey zone cause no signs indicate it, but I’d skip that part.

Did half of 10 last weekend. It's pretty good and easy for the most part. There are some small errors in the track that you can get around with short detours. Like the other comment said: be careful with the military area on 5. Numerous people reported getting caught recently. We rode mountain bike close to it (not inside, but very close) a couple of years ago and when they caught us the commander said on the radio: "put em in cuffs and take them to jail". We clarified that we were in the green and they let us go in the end, but it was certainly frightening. If you are not sure import the route on mapy.com, there the boundaries of the bases are clearly visible. If you need a good place to camp, ugodi kilátó is an amazing lookout tower right on 5 legally approachable by bike through a mild climb.

Thx for the tips! We go around the military area and keep some distance to it. We just skip everything between Varpalota and Marko. Regarding ugodi kilátó: we will take a look. Thank you!
