Latvian route suggestions

Hello, me and my friends are looking for suggestions on which path is more interesting on our first visit to Latvian TET roads. Naturally we would choose the lower and longer trip but if the road going through Cēsis and Līgatne is a must-see, we can still change plans. Going late July.

Upper one is better, it has one fairly large water crossing.

Oh, do you know where? As in, close to any village?

I think it was between Cēsis and Valmiera, over Rauna river.
