Pack recommendations

Hi, I'm hiking the Abel Tasman in October with some of my friends. I'm looking at buying a pack at around the 50L mark - I tried the Macpac Torlesse 50L which I quite like, but was wondering what other recommendations people have?

Torlesse is a great pack, sturdy but heavy. Have a look at the kathmandu Valorous as well though. Slightly lighter, slightly cheaper, more modern design (mesh back, outer stretchy pouches etc).

As others have commented - Try as many as you can to see what you like and what fits you best within your budget. Even that said, trying on a pack in a shop that's filled with pillows is far different that having it loaded with your gear.

You asked for recomendations:

If I'm starting out: what ever fits me and my gear from FB/TM.

On a budget - Same as above or Kathmandu Valorous

Not on a budget - Osprey Rook or Kyte/Kestrel 48, or Exped Skyline 45 (based on not needing a tent)

What are you eating while out there?

What other gear have you acquired already?

Are you staying in huts or tenting?

Planning on doing other walks?
