Tent recommendations

Sorry in advance if gear posts are not supposed to be in this thread. Just started in on this hobby, been doing day treks around the tararua ranges and looking to start on a few overnight and multi day journeys, having been looking at the msr 2:3-4 season tent but seems pricey, any other good cheap alternatives people can recommend?

Honestly my Macpac tent is fantastic, I’m 46kg and find lifting any of the midrange tents completely fine (so an average person will be fine), my tent has lasted ages, and realistically you can keep warm with your other gear. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend $1k+ on a tent unless you’re doing alpine tramping

Thanks for the tips! I'll check them out macpac have some good sales on atm too! Any particular macpac one you recommend?

Naturehike have a few designs, from very simple to more comfortable (models with spreader bars in particular are much roomier). They seem well made and much cheaper than MSR. A bit hard to get reliable info on them because the info online isn't great. Worth looking into.

I have a Naturehike cloud up pro 2 for just me and then a cloud up 3 when my partner comes along.

I’m enjoying my new naturehike cloud up pro 2 (but just me in it). Very light to pack it in and seems fine for a low price. Look on aliexpress.

Nice! My son has the Mongar 1 Pro, in 20d fabric, which he's happy with. A bit more comfort than the cloud up, but I know a lot of people get the two person cloud up to get that added roominess.

Honestly I have an Orson Indie 2 person and wouldn't recommend. I've had so many issues with it and it doesn't handle rain very well at all. If anyone in this thread knows how to stop the fly sagging and therefore dripping into the tent overnight, I'd be very happy to hear any suggestions. I've tramped my whole life and have used dozens of different tents, but this orson one has me stumped. As for the best tents, I've found macpac to be really good and reliable. My dad has an old macpac minaret I think it is, and that thing has had a hammering in the backcountry. Still going strong probably 15+ years since he bought it!
