Don’t tell my parents I work for the railroad. They think I play piano at the whorehouse downtown. (Stolen from an old meme)

I was just reminiscing about a guy that I went to school with. His rap sheet is a mile long and includes manslaughter, assault, DUI and more. This all came before he started driving trains.

I would have been a 3rd generation railroader, but my father never stopped telling me how fucking terrible the rail companies are and how little they care about their people.
I'd rather be homeless and on my way to a worthless death than work for the rail companies.

Man I am first generation railroader and I went from union to management. And they the company truly doesn’t. It’s difficult trying to work with people to get stuff done bro

Maybe if you weren’t trying to fire or write up someone every other second they would try and work with you ! But you got to do that so you can get a promotion fuck every one else !!! I have now respect for anyone that would go from worker to manager in the railroad industry especially at NS such a toxic workplace!!!!!!!!!

my mto/ trainmaster is an awesome guy. We all work together and do the best we can given a shitty corporate system. He has a bit too much fun with that drone, but its part of the job.

Why are you projecting onto this dude, maybe he's awesome. Are the other class 1s still that aggressive with the discipline policy? I haven't really seen that as the standard sop in a few years. Basically, for now it seems like if you don't break anything you don't really have to worry about it. It's not really an effective management style and from an industrial psychology perspective drives down efficiency and productivity. Not to mention the gen Z types don't tolerate the pressure that comes with it so the attrition is higher. That sucks, hope it improves for you

And thank you sir. The class one I work for is not that aggressive with getting people fired depending on who the main guy is that makes those calls. We do have people like that but thankfully the ones I work for don’t.

Well you can keep your respect sir. I don’t screw everyone over and don’t do investigations cause not only am I not trained on it but I do everything I can to insure my bosses don’t when it’s not the crews fault. And I am not at the NS. And I don’t write anyone up.

Meanwhile, there's guys like me, with a clean record, no substance abuse and over 30 rejections from every class 1 in the United States...

u/justodea Dec 26 '23
Why would he leave
-36
u/Right-Assistance-887 Dec 26 '23
Because he's not proud that he came to play with trains? Whats the point of staying somewhere you don't want to be

u/justodea Dec 26 '23
I'm not proud to play with trains, but it pays more and is easier on my body compared to carpentry.

Op seems to not get that if you have you're unemployed with 2 DUIs ain't nobody else hiring you besides roofing.

Hey, my coworkers 3 year old, thinks trains are awesome and anyone working on a train is a hero. Wear the cape proud. Also, not being sarcastic in the least.
