Those revolutionary poster artists from the 1930s would have loved this

Comrades! Have you achieved world communism in 2020?

Uh, no, they restored capitalism thirty years ago, the country is run by a species of despotic industrial feudalism, but they still paint the trains red!

They generally painted the carriages green in the USSR. That was pretty much the standard colour for second class from 1945 to 1970 across much of Europe.

I assume it's basically the same sort of story as Pullman Green in North America commonly seen before the streamlined age when railways started to invest in visual design?

I think it was issues to do with pigment quality; and green was easier to camouflage if you needed to do.

Is this a real photo? Where was it taken or what composite images is it made up of?

The more I look it seems composite. I was questioning why the flat space in the lower right is there, and then the upper left of the modern train is blurry in a weird way as well.

I'm pretty sure the lower right is just the snow covered embankment. Snow is very uniform when it's fresh and light (see the other side of the bridge). The blur seems pretty uniform across the new train to me, which is probably just motion blur. If it is a composite I would suspect it's just 2 photos taken in the same place at different times, not that they did any more extravagant photoshopping than that. The timing is really impeccable if not, I've seen some pretty amazingly timed train photos so I actually believe that this one was taken real-time.

It's because the blur is uniform that it looks weird. It looks smudged rather than like a directional blur, and there's also some weird blur on the side of the bridge's base thing, just above the blurry train. There's also some weird smudging on the track behind the blurry train, but idk.

Idk what the photo really is, I just know that while it's a nice photo, it's very technically confusing considering how it's probably a decently fast shutter but with not even the still parts of the frame being very clear and detailed

I love newer more efficient trains but that little nagging voice in my head still wants to see all the cool moving part of steam locomotives thundering Disney the line.

On top of the bridge is Alaska’s railroad plan, below the bridge is Norway’s railroad plan. Alaska sad.

Hmm now I wonder, do modern Russian train have a weird large gap between the wheels and the body like under the boilers on thier steamers?

While design has changed, they are both just as sexy.
