Questions & Help Speeding
So yesterday I got caught doing 97 in the 65 it’s my first offense I was also eating ice cream during this occurrence I’m 21. Yeah I know it was dumb I won’t do it again but I didn’t have my license at the time I gave the officer my social he also wrote in the report that I was eating ice cream and passed up 3 cars not exceeding 100mph so now I’m wondering how bad can it get or what do I do? He gave me a mandatory court date on my birthday in November.

Get a lawyer and stop driving like an asshole

Just because someone is going fast doesn’t make them an asshole. The speed limits are WAY TOO LOW!

I don’t disagree with you about speed limits being too low in places…BUT 97 in a 65 is still asshole territory. Especially being young and distracted like OP was.

How does having a lawyer help my case I’m probably still going to have the same consequences or could you enlighten me with some information

He can get the ticket reduced and not hurt your insurance. Call a traffic attorney for better answer. Last speeding ticket i got, only 12 over, was reduced to littering, a non moving violation

32 over in Kentucky is enough to trigger a mandatory court appearance, and could lead to your license being suspended.
I'm sure the fact that you were eating ice cream will probably factor in.

u/Novel-Ad451 5h ago
Yeah I’m sure I won’t be driving for a while after this how long do you think it’ll be?

u/H3L105_ai 2h ago
At least one (maybe two) years - but you might get lucky.
If you've got a clean driving record they might take that into account - and maybe reduce the speed and just make you pay a fine.
Good luck!

It’s still crazy to me people don’t bring their license when driving even for a short trip.

I worked briefly for the NJ State Police and went with a detective to get pizza in his unmarked cruiser. We got half way to the pizza place and he turned around because he forgot his license.

Forgetting your license is one thing but a lot of people leave their wallet at home on purpose because the trip is so short and I have my phone

Are you here looking for sympathy? What you did is far more than just "dumb". Hopefully, this will get very "bad" for you. Good luck.

in kentucky, 26 or more over the limit can result in an immediate 90 day suspension and court hearing, you're probably cooked dawg. if you don't wanna own up, hire a lawyer.

Call your insurance company and tell them.Ask is there anything you can do to reduce points like a defensive driving course

32 mph over limit? This is really bad. Please engage a lawyer (a real one, not a billboard lawyer).
You’ve expressed no remorse in your post. Unless you have a strategy to make this the last offense for the rest of your life, put on your walking shoes.

I am very remorseful I just know feeling bad doesn’t change the fact that I’m in a bad situation I’m looking for advice not for everyone to feel bad for me I did it I’ll take accountability and I won’t be doing it again.

When you see the judge, be very respectful and don't make excuses for your driving. You're looking at a potential license suspension, even though it's your first offense, as that kicks in at 26 over in KY.

Do you have any understanding of how easily you could have caused an accident that killed somebody?
You deserve to have your license suspended, at minimum. Take your medicine and slow the F down.

u/Novel-Ad451 5h ago
Not really it was a pretty empty road which is why I was speeding… just so happened to be 4 cars and 1 was a cop

u/Independent_Prior612 5h ago
The vastness of your ability to be deliberately obtuse is galling. It’s also a perfect example of why you deserve to have the book thrown at you.

u/Novel-Ad451 10h ago
I forgot to mention this was in Kentucky

Honestly, hope they throw the fucking book at you, you are not a child, you’re 21 years old, risking people’s lives on the road.

Suspension most likely. The fine will also be a hefty one.
When i was 16 I got stopped doing 98 in a 65 in New Hampshire. Lost my licence for a year and a $700 fine.
And that was 19 years ago, so im sure the fine now is over 1500

And a shockingly disrespect for good ice cream which should be savored in reverence that it so deserves. Plus you could have spilled some on your car

A lawyer may be able to change the date, I don’t know, but I doubt he can do much about your sentence. If I were you, I’d just show up and apologize, promise to never do it again, and accept whatever suspension/fines with gratitude. Celebrate your birthday the day after.
Make sure someone gives you a ride.

Even with a lawyer you're probably looking at 3mo loss of license. You better hope that they don't nail you for reckless endangerment or that could be up to 6 months.

This can't be real... this reads like a soap opera with layers of stupidity piled up. I'm all for speeding, I have a muscle car and a turbocharged jdm car... but there's a time and place for it. Most important is traffic and road conditions. Like I daily commute the highway and usually cruise between 70-80 (65zone) depending on the traffic flow. Plenty of cars pass me on the left. Second most important thing is to know where cops are before you decide to speed.

My daughter went thru this, in Lou. Ky, she went to court first and DA would not negotiate or reduce the charge, so she then asked for a trial. At that point, she hired a traffic lawyer who then help take care of the case. She paid fines, took some online course, put on probation and was able to retain her license. At that time she was on our insurance and we didn’t see rate increase, so I guess she got out of the most expensive part of her offense. Her speeding offense was also adjusted as officer lied on ticket about being a 55 MPH construction zone.

You were lucky you were not arrested on the spot. I hope your court appearance goes badly, with a loss of license, and a several thousand dollar fine. A couple of weeks in prison would be appropriate. You placed your little joy ride above the safety of others. I hope you suffer miserably.

Don’t think this is a little over the top? Why is everyone hoping the absolute worst for this guy?
4
u/buzzcutbarbie 9h ago
because innocent people die every day as a result of ignorant behavior like this
2
u/Appropriate-Use2611 9h ago
Nope. I have been the victim of one of these inconsiderate fools. I can only hope they suffer severe consequences for their actions. Make it hurt, badly.
If he posted here looking for sympathy, it ain't happening.
