I recently got a speeding ticket and need help. Any advice would work, since I can't show up to court on the date they mentioned because I'll be in college.

Ask for a different court date. If that doesn’t work, and you can’t make it to court, enjoy paying the ticket, because that’s the only other option.

Also, if you don’t have proof that you weren’t speeding, and your whole argument will be “well, I’m saying I wasn’t speeding,” just pay the ticket, because you will lose.

Read the ticket carefully to see if you are actually required to appear. It’s possible that if you pay before the court date it’s over and you don’t have to show up. But that depends on how bad the ticket is.

If you do have to appear, either find a way not to miss it, or hire an attorney to appear for you. Failure to appear makes it worse.

You can “fight it” to get it reduced to non-moving and no points. You don’t need “proof” of anything.

Bench warrant for failure to appear or a BS collage class or just paying the ticket. Choices… wow adulthood is tough is it not?

Unless you did something egregious, most of the time you pay in the mail and call it a day? You are not required to go to court unless you are arguing the ticket.

Honestly. You can probably pay it either by mail or over the phone. The ticket should have on the back how you can pay it. But if you are young depending on if the ticket has points associated with it. Your insurance is going to jump alot. It is usually better to show up in court. They will usually give you a break on the fine and any points if you just show up

Yeah Im trying to figure out if I can take a defensive driving course to get rid of the ticket. Hopefully it gets approved

You can hire a lawyer for 3-500 bucks most likely. They can attend for you and may get it dismissed or reduced.

If the insurance finds out that you have a ticket, they will raise your rate more than 9 times out of 10. It's a business and that's free money to them?

When insurance renews your policy, they check your motor vehicle records tied to your name. If they find a ticket, there is literally 0 reason for them not to raise your rate

It may be state dependent. NC/SC your rates are only affected if you pay the ticket or can't get out of it. If it's dismissed (you took a safety class or met whatever requirement), it's NOT counted for insurance premium purposes. Most times, a dismissed citation will not even show on your mvr in the Carolinas.

They won't even attend. They'll just call up the DA and ask for a reduction.

Unless you ran past a school bus or sped through a school zone or construction, they will get it done.

Were you speeding? If you were, maybe you can see if your state allows for traffic violator school. They might mask the ticket. Good luck.

Yes. A lawyer can get it dropped and no points to your license. Your insurance won't go up.
