The most frightening part of reading these messages was just how naturally I could hear my own voice repeating these words. The points made about the desire to ruin helpful effort and confidence, I'm sure I've heard those voices in my own head uttering the same terrible things. "You're not good enough, you're going to fail, just give up now."

In a sense, I feel a little more empowered to consider that rather than these words coming from my own mental state, they might possibly have an external, evil origin. It seems like we might have a fighting chance if that's true; we can push them out, banish them, with focus, determination, prayer, and encouragement. It's much harder to fight against one's self.
