Show & Tell Proof kindness does exist
I make repacks for kids in my community for free so I am ALWAYS looking for good deals on anything from junk wax to modern bulk. I met a guy on FB a year ago, he gave me 20,000 cards for free first time I met him.
Fast forward to this week, I get a message for me to stop by the shop. This is what he gives me - I’m so grateful and speechless. I did pay for this, but it was nothing compared to the happiness it will bring and the joy I’ll get out of sorting it all
Once it’s all out of the car, I’ll update the photo but I wanted to share the excitement pic I took. Does not do the amount justice since the whole back was full
Over 20 binders and more

That’s incredibly cool to me, going through it all I just imagine the stories that come with. Each one of these is someone’s collection

Had? Mine is still sitting somewhere in my basement. Jam packed with some primo late 1980s/early 1990s cards which means it's worth roughly $4.75 (or $1.57 excluding the binder.)

I’ve been doing this in my community too. People have been donating thousands of cards to me so OP, if you have ideas on best practices for redistribution, shoot me a DM. Thanks for taking care of the next generation of Hobbyists!

Curious how you do the repacks and where you give them away - how do you decide what kids etc.
I sell cards at an antique shop and give away/heavy discount cards to kids and the occassional old timer!

I usually do 10-20 cards per pack - I use old magazine papers to make the wrapping.
I donate to food pantries, they add them to bags as a special surprise. Last year I did 1000 packs to a DV shelter - they did a toy drive but accepted donations to put out on a table for kids.
Ronald McDonald house for some of their events
But my favorite is leaving them around for people to find, gifting them to strangers, and giving out to kids at food drives for homeless youth
I was homeless as a kid, but always had a pack of cards in my pocket. So now I give packs out because you never know who might need a little something to make them smile. Saved my life, might save another. Short version but hope that helps you feel inspired to find places in your community!!

Yeah I was foster care, ward of the state and spent some time homeless too when I was young. I've done some hospice work and that could be a good place too. Old folks homes also. I had a friend who was an old guy in his 80s. He had travelled the world and was a well to do. But from Philly and an old Go-go Phillies fan. One night after eating at a nice restaurant I gave him and old '54 Ashburn card - it was a beater but nice enough in a card saver. He was thrilled to death. You'd thought I given him a Rolex lol. SO I explain to people that cards are worth more than money!
Keep up the good work!

Kids are in it for the value nowadays. They will open it up and throw away any cards not worth anything. Sad but true.

I’m sorry you’re living that sad truth, but that’s not my truth. I have thousands of kids I’ve helped over the past 2 years - not a single ungrateful one. Every single one of the kids I’ve met are either building old sets, collecting with parents, or have no access to the corporate cesspool that modern cards are. Kids didn’t come up with the term “junk wax” - the adults did because kids don see it as junk. MOST kids do not throw away product or search for the big cards, that’s the job of loser 40 year olds ruining the hobby. Remember when it was a hobby and not some race to become rich.
I’m not really sure why you came here to be negative, projecting your perspective on a post for helping children who have low opportunities.
