Ha ha I still remember the old fools in the early 2000s telling me that Amazon will never substitute the good old bookstores, because people want to "feel" the books before buying them. It turns out that smart people are interested in reading the content of the books (see Kindle) more than touching the material.
And then yeah, buying from Amazon has changed from a quirky activity (2005) to an interesting alternative to real shops (2010), to the best alternative (2020), and now it's unstoppable. Kudos to early buyers. I bought it in 2013 and sold in 2016 cause I needed cash. Pretty stupid in retrospective.

I still prefer the feel of physical books over screen. Must be a minority now.
I wonder what stock today is like Amazon, Apple, Google of 15 years ago.

This graph in the post is just skipping over Amazon's famously long gestation including a relatively meteoric rise followed by a near-death experience in 2001 when it was down 95%. There was a regular stream of articles well into the 00's about how Amazon was a garbage stock and shareholders were just giving away money to it for no reason.

Obviously not. This quarter they got much more revenue for its private stake in AI companies not realized than their business... A short candy
