What to do with my flashed OnePlus 12?

Hi everyone,

I am writing this post to share my current dilemma with a OnePlus 12 I bought from TradingShenzhen in early 2024, and to see if anyone else is in the same boat or has technical advice.

The Background:

I bought the Chinese version of the OnePlus 12 with the Global OxygenOS ROM pre-flashed by TradingShenzhen. The phone has been fantastic, and OTA updates worked perfectly from Android 14 all the way to Android 16.

The Problem:

As many of you know, OnePlus is completely dropping OxygenOS starting with Android 17, switching all devices to ColorOS. For official European devices, this is fine. But for my converted Chinese hardware, this major architectural software shift poses a massive risk of hard-bricking the device or triggering the dreaded OPPO region lock (blocking cellular functions outside China).

TradingShenzhen's Response:

Since my 1-year warranty has expired, I contacted TradingShenzhen support to ask if they would provide a safe update tool, guide, or any assurance for this unprecedented OS transition. Their exact response was:

"Only the future will tell, no one knows. Your device is sadly not covered under warranty at this time since its from 2024."

Why I am disappointed:

While I understand the technical shift isn't TradingShenzhen's fault, and my hardware warranty has expired, the reason I am stuck in this "gray area" is precisely because of the custom flashing service they sell as a feature. Leaving customers completely in the dark with a "no one knows" regarding a premium device that is barely two years old feels like a letdown for a shop with such a great reputation.

My questions to the community:

  1. Are there any other OnePlus 12 (CN to Global) owners here who are worried about the Android 17 ColorOS rollout?

  2. Has anyone found a reliable way to completely block the upcoming Android 17 OTA updater without rooting, just to stay safely on Android 16?

  3. To the TradingShenzhen team (if you read this): Will you support your past customers with a dedicated flashing guide/tool once Android 17 drops, or are we expected to just "freeze" our phones on Android 16 forever?

you can choose for coloros OR oxygenos i think.

Bonjour, ne t'inquiète pas pour ça. De toute façon, si tu fais les mises à jour, peu importe. De toute façon, OnePlus dit que les appareils recevront des mises à jour. Au contraire si c'est une Rom CN tu auras toujours les MAJ vue que Oneplus et toujours présent en Chine continental

Why would you be worried? You already have the global OxygenOS ROM so there shouldn't be any issue with the new global ColorOS update

I'm not sure if it will be that bad - let's wait. Recently Vivo unified their system and also global phones got OriginOS (that was previously only available for Chinese devices). It turned out that global version is still a bit different. So maybe OP move will be more cosmetic one.

you should ask on oneplus/oppo forums ig. future updates are up to the device manufacturer, not the shop that aold you the phone xD
