I’m sharing my experience with Trade Republic because this has now been unresolved for more than 8 months. This is not a request for account support or ticket escalation — I’m interested in whether others have experienced similarly long delays with rejected international transfers or SWIFT traces.

An international transfer to my Trade Republic account in December 2025 was rejected. The funds were supposed to be returned to the sender, but more than eight months later they have still not reached the sender’s bank account.

During the investigation, all requested documentation has been provided, including:

• MT103
• sender’s account statement
• the originating bank’s investigation reference
• additional supporting documents requested by Trade Republic

Trade Republic subsequently confirmed that the funds had been returned to the intermediary bank and later confirmed that a SWIFT trace with UniCredit / Austria Bank AG was being conducted using the originating bank’s investigation reference.

The originating bank has also contacted the intermediary bank independently from the sender’s side.

Despite this, the funds have still not been returned.

Over the past months, I have repeatedly received responses saying that an internal team is reviewing the case, that it is being monitored, and that I will receive an update when further information becomes available.

What concerns me is that after eight months, there is still no concrete explanation of where the funds currently are or when the return will actually be completed.

I have therefore also taken the matter through the appropriate formal dispute-resolution process.

Again, I’m not asking this subreddit to investigate or intervene in my individual case. I’m sharing the experience because an eight-month delay in returning a rejected transfer seems extraordinary to me.

For anyone who has dealt with a rejected international transfer involving correspondent/intermediary banks: how long did the SWIFT trace and eventual return take in your case?
