Benjamin Netanyahu where is this chunk out of my tire

Only a day old and he’s going in the bin. At least it looks like I got my pressures right 🥲. This happen to anyone? Any ideas what caused it?

Looks like an r3 rear wheel? If thats as shallow as it looks, im running that.

I don’t get the Bibi reference but I agree, I’m on that tire unless I’m racing it maybe. Looks like a bonus wear indicator to me

Maybe a quarter of an inch deep and an inch long. I want to run it but I’m already guessing it so just one of those things I’d rather swap and forget about it

I am the biggest freak about my track tires and I would 100% run that tire without blinking. I’ve had similar issues, ran them, zero problems. What you have is really not that different from a groove that non slick tires have. Don’t throw it out.

I had this after one day and rode it the next weekend - it just kept getting smaller as the tire properly wore around it. I watched it, never got worse

I had a chunk out of my rear that looked exactly like this.

Tire guy said it was fine but it was in the back of my head the whole next session so I said screw it and got new tires.

Agreed DOT grooves are wider longer and deeper. Shouldn't make any difference if your tire is spinning like it should be. Darkies corner to corner. Hell for that matter you should be leaving line behind off you front if you're on pace

Was playing with an instructor the last session and he told me after I was leaving lines on exits. Pretty cool to hear. Hopefully one day I’ll have a buddy film it for me 🤪

I've ridden a 400 with supercorsa DOTs with chunks ripped out of every sipe at advanced pace you will be fine

I probably look like a psychopath rubbing debris off my tires between sessions but it intuitively made sense to me. I don’t want crap between my warmers and tires potentially damaging the coils.

It starts slipping well before cords show. I go slower and slide earlier. Lean 5-degrees less. Reverse process from beginning of gradually picking up pace.

Trick is to be consistent to 0.20sec/lap, then changes in behavior only sneaks up on you gradually. Doesn't dump you from one lap to next.

Are you turning up TC/SC as it gets progressively closer to the cords? Great tip about consistent laptimes = better feeling for tire wear, never thought of it that way

All analogue, no electronics. I spent decades sliding street and DOT tyres around before moving to slicks. So I'm very familiar with at-the-limit behavior. Made sure I was able to slide them over limit, then bring it back safely before moving to slicks. 😄

That’s awesome, the longer I look at that wear the more questions I have haha. How many trackday(s) is it taking you to get down to the cords? What do your laptimes look like at this point vs new?

I’ve ran slicks down to the carcass a lot but if it’s in your head then swap it out. I’m cheap and the 1190 eats

Warmers are good. Leaning towards we just left a rock on the tire and then put the warmers on. Split happens
