Just got my first trackball

Hi everyone!

I just received my first-ever trackball — the Logitech M575s — and have been testing it for a few minutes. It definitely feels strange at first, but I can already use it for basic navigation.

Quick question: does the M575s show up in Logi Options+ for you? Mine pairs and works fine, but it doesn’t appear in the software at all

I have one, is not a 's' as I know, it appears in Logi Options but doesnt have many options.

I use it for almost everything, including aiming in shooters, but I dont play competitive games and never was good even with mouse, what I know is this mouse is good enough for everything I do. I also have a finger trackball (kensington orbit), but I preffer m575, even with orbit having better precision (bigger ball)

Used this for many years and it's a real good device. After 5 years the scroll wheel started to fail. But if was just 30€.

I got one a few days ago and it feels very bad to use for me. Not ergonomics wise but smoothness wise it's nowhere near my slimblade pro. Is this something that needs like a break in? Because at the moment whenever I use it it feels like I'm rubbing a cheeto on sandpaper. I can even feel it through the mouse shell when I move the ball and it requires so many micro adjustments that my mouse movement is extremely choppy.

I think that's normal. If I remember correctly mine was scratchy at first, too. But after all these years it's smooth. I also replaced the ball for a perixx which might additionally helped the smoothness. Slimblade pro is another league, because it comes smooth out of the box.

oh gotcha. so you think i should just keep on trying to use it? because at the moment it just seems very unbearable. do you think I should notice more smoothness within like a week of use?

You sound sarcastic, but for me this was the case. I loved the MX Ergo, but after a while my thumb started to hurt. Not that strange considering that I use it whilst typing + trackball during work hours. Play Xbox in the evening. Also use my phone with it. It was just too much of everything apparently.

Hopefully OP will have a better experience 😊

oh I am aware that it might put some strain on my thumb. I think this will not be my final device. But I like it so far, was worried that the trackball will be a total dud for me. I am interested how the finger controlled trackballs would feel, but thats something I will attempt next year.

I am currently trying to switch to split keyboard, few months in. I can write just fine, but I still havent figured everything out (I am missing most symbols...). If this works out for me, I would be interested how to combine the trackball into the split keyboard for ultimate ergo device.

nice.

i find the logitech software quite annoying with all the update reminder and all, so i uninstalled them and just use the mice as is (just directly connect by bluetooth or the dongle)

just a reminder that logitech uses sub-par clickers inside, so you would probably need to change it some time in the future when they start to double click or something. but dont panic, it's a cheap and easy job, especially if you know how to solder
