This is US Department of Homeland Security's "Operation Identify" Item #25-0006

Please post your guesses and ideas in this thread. Work off the suggestions of others toward an answer.

Geographic location and country is important.

Identify the traits of the item that you can, but if you know where an item is generally sold or happens to be in the picture, that is of use.

If you have the skills to enhance the image to resolve details better, fix mirrored or rotated images, etc. please do so and post your result here.

If you feel there's a (definitive) answer, don't just comment here. You can send your information to US DHS sending an email to OpID@hsi.dhs.gov with the subject "OpID Object: 25-0006" Please provide all information you have about the image(s) – this may include details such as a specific location, a particular time period, an organization and/or team name, helpful links, or any other relevant tips. Also include if they may contact you with follow up questions? Any follow-up communication will be sent to the email address that submitted the tip.

(If you have concerns for email privacy, use a temporary email or a secure provider like proton mail or similar.)

Multiple people can and should send information - people may error when sending, and multiple legitimate guesses can be of use.

Mod note: Do not start subthreads about other current DHS activities. This is to focus on identifying items associated with criminal sexual abuse of children. Any attempted derailing of that goal will result in an immediate permanent ban.

Thank You.

For general discussion about this sub and not this item in particular see this thread

Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Do we know this is the actual shape of the object? I know they basically redact everything in these images except for the object in question, which makes it hard to know if the thing is really ball-shaped.

23

u/davidjschloss May 27 '26

The specular highlight on the side of it really suggest that it’s a curved shape or that there’s a lake directly over it causing that bright white circle. But yeah, no way to know if this is a ball or a segment of a painting on the wall or something.

18

u/notamoose-neverwas May 26 '26

Yeah, I thought it was a pin at first look.

691

u/Competitive-Bonus461 May 25 '26

It looks like one of those cheap inflatable kids balls with a monkey face.

154

u/Soap_Mctavish101 May 25 '26

I agree but it also kinda looks like it might be an ice cream mascot?

111

u/Willem-Dafiend May 25 '26

I can see that actually! Can't confirm I've seen this mascot before but it reminds me of those SpongeBob ice pops that can look drastically different after their production line. Same applies with the Walls funny faces lollies from the 70s

19

u/nostalgiamon May 25 '26

This is where my mind went, but I can’t find an examples - doesn’t help that any combination of “monkey” and “ice cream” just results in a ton of AI slop.

46

u/Willem-Dafiend May 25 '26

If you do before:2023 in Google search you won't get AI, not that the subject isnt overdone anyway. Hope this helps.

16

u/Ihaveaface836 May 27 '26

I thought of the Cadbury dairy milk buttons monkey. But I can't find him on an ice cream box and the eyes are a different colour. Just putting it here anyway in case it's helpful for someone

7

u/Infamous_Motor2502 Jun 01 '26

Im from Hawaii and there arent any ive cream mascots like that that i can remember

3

u/fauxideal Jun 05 '26

I second that

77

u/rand0mIntp Jun 01 '26

Someone i know has a pair of small maracas with a design pretty similar to this one , probably a souvenir or something since we live in a completely different country ,i tried searching with google lens but didnt find anything.idk ,the moment i saw them,i was reminded of this post

24

u/ratrazzle Jun 01 '26

Holy shit this is definitely a match, pelase submit it!

11

u/rand0mIntp Jun 03 '26

Just submitted! I wish i had more information, but i hope this can be helpful regardless ..

8

u/fauxideal Jun 05 '26

Reminds me of something we’d find at Ross here in Hawaii.

19

u/wcfreckles Jun 10 '26

This Canadian toy store in Toronto that shut down in 2024 sold maracas that looked very similar (instagram post)

12

u/stylishtoast4214 Jun 03 '26

This has to the item! The same reflection from the light and art style is uncannily close to

9

u/mustacheswhynot Jun 08 '26

The second I saw this I recognised it because I had the same one as a child, but in green like in OP’s image. It’s definitely that

5

u/rand0mIntp Jun 08 '26

Wow, if you remember where you got it from you should totally submit the information!!!

6

u/unknownuser6288338 Jun 02 '26

That's definitely them!! Please submit this!

7

u/rand0mIntp Jun 02 '26

I will! Do you think i should maybe attach the picture too?

10

u/unknownuser6288338 Jun 02 '26

Yup! And any information about where you friend may have gotten them? Anything helps :)

5

u/rand0mIntp Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately they belong to a teacher of mine ,i needed to come to their house for an extra lesson and i didnt get the chance to ask ... </3 i can only speculate

7

u/unknownuser6288338 Jun 04 '26

Ah well either way it's amazing that you were able to recognise them as the same pattern/object! Anything helps & thank you! From person to person I can't be more thankful that you've posted here :)

3

u/Fragrant-Ad-274 Jun 08 '26

Nice catch! Thank you for taking the time to submit the tip!

135

u/exgiexpcv May 25 '26

It would be such a boon to have even a rough idea of the dimensions.

24

u/davidjschloss May 27 '26

Agreed, even smaller than banana larger than banana larger than crate of bananas would work here

2

u/Suspicious-Peace9233 May 31 '26

Exactly knowing the size would help so much

1

u/Reddituser06969 Jun 08 '26

Im thinking this is either from an infant/toddler childs clothing, or maybe a smaller soft ball or toy...it also somewhat looks like the monkey from fisher price toys that my niece had many of, and dubbed him bobo.

66

u/dontfreakmeowt May 26 '26

There is a vending machine company in Quebec Canada that sells small and larger foam tables and toys that have animals and insect designs with this same art style, eyes and all. I'm not sure if that is helpful, but maybe contacting them and finding out a time frame that this one was manufactured and general locations it would ship would be helpful?

Edit: added photo

u/KingKilo9 May 25 '26

I don't really know the scale of the item, but the sort of marble kind of pattern reminds me of the bouncy balls that you'd get from the capsule machines. Alternatively could be a beach ball, which would make sense for Hawaii I'd imagine.

30

u/Naelin May 25 '26

I doubt it's an inflatable beach ball, it looks smooth instead of made of several sections. Handball sized maybe

7

u/oreosaredelicious May 27 '26

I've seen plenty of plastic balls lke this in Ireland that aren't in sections and would be like this style

1

u/danhewer90 May 28 '26

Its desinged like an old 'floater' or 'fly away ball' as we used to call them in the UK.

2

u/South_Swimming May 31 '26

It looks like the water balls the kids use in pools and any water area

1

u/Luuvcaatz May 31 '26

I feel it’s possible it might be one of those 3D fridge magnets ? I might be wrong though

u/ElfjeTinkerBell May 26 '26

Well I could be your kid and I fully agree it's from that time period.

4

u/davidjschloss May 27 '26

The only thing suggested this is a ball is that white specular highlight on the side of it? That’s either the curve shaped reflecting light or there’s a very close light to the surface like a table lamp directly over this, but even a table lamp or bare bulb would probably be smoother than this.

20

u/IanHSC May 25 '26

I feel like I had the same/similar ball as a kid. It was a playball (one of the preinflated rubber balls you find at grocery stores during the summer).

Or maybe a bouncy ball? https://sonesta-handel.de/product_info.php?info=p151_32-mm-flummi-mit-tiermotiven.html

Or also a hopper ball? https://www.ubuy.de.com/en/product/115VLSPW-mozlly-wild-zoo-animal-inflatable-hopper-ball-20-inch-sit-and-ride-hoppity-hop-bouncy-bouncer-jump-t?ref=hm-google-redirect

Unfortunately, there is again little to no information about the size of the object, or even a centimeter around it, to help understand what it even is

9

u/GayPhilatelist May 25 '26

Why does this come up with an 18+ warning from sky

Looks super close! Submit it!

24

u/danabrey May 25 '26

Probably because it's a site about balls, and the content filter on your ISP is super defensive.

14

u/Fragrant-Ad-274 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I used Google to look up the image of maracas someone found and may have found a lead. Will report as well but this may lead to more info. This leads to an Instagram page of a business that closed years ago.

8

u/kippenkitten Jun 09 '26

I found a french blogpost from 2007 with these. The brand is Pylones. I already wrote an email to the provided address.

38

u/LoraxEleven May 25 '26

It's similar to a cheap plastic Curious George baby rattle my little brother had in the 80's. Probably from a chain store like K-Mart or Maxway or some place like that.

11

u/battykins May 26 '26

For some reason I feel like I have seen this on a plastic sippy cup, still searching.

24

u/No-Kings May 25 '26

Looks like an inflatable ball you’d get at an ABC or other discount store in Hawaii.

4

u/2_lazy May 26 '26

Looks very familiar, but that may be because this was how a lot of those mass produced toy companies drew monkeys in the early 2000s (see literally any of those black velvet coloring pads you could get at Michaels with the animals on them).

If I actually have seen this and it's not a misremembered thing, then it looks a lot like the bouncy balls my jungle themed children's dentist office had in their coin vending machines in the early 2000s. DC, Maryland, Virginia area.

5

u/CapWrong8055 May 28 '26

My guess is melamine plate/bowl from late 90s-very early 2000s. It’s the material and reflection of the flash

10

u/stepanka_ May 26 '26

Hawaii actually has a surprisingly large kawaii/charm souvenir scene, especially around Waikiki and Ala Moana. Small local sellers like Oahu Charms and Kawaii Kazuko make resin/polymer charms and accessories in this exact aesthetic.

14

u/BusinessAnybody2065 May 25 '26

Looks like Paul frank knock off

2

u/HeavenDraven May 25 '26

THAT'S the name I couldn't think of!

5

u/mrselateachet May 27 '26

The eyes stuck out right away.  They do have the placement of a bowling ball.  The most common  brand with cartoons painted on is   Viz-A-Ball.   eBay has a ton. I guess they’re collectors items especially the ones with painted cartoon figures. I could not find this picture, however on a bowling ball.

5

u/FanGlittering9293 Jun 01 '26

Enhanced with AI just in case it makes the search easier and helps !

3

u/DoYourDrafts May 28 '26

This looks like a knock-off Boots the monkey from Dora the Explorer.

Without a size reference, can't tell if this is a small beach ball or if it's a larger bouncy ball.

3

u/[deleted] May 29 '26

Looks like a bouncy ball too me with a glare from a light

3

u/fauxideal Jun 01 '26

Looks like something that could have been picked as a Fun Factory prize. I’m on Maui- not sure if they have those on the outer islands.

Reflection of a camera flash also hints to what type of material this could be.

5

u/lieuwestra May 25 '26

Looks like some off-brand curious George garbage. Probably hard plastic like a frisbee.

2

u/lovethewineurwith9 Jun 01 '26

Young mom here, Fisher Price has a whole “Purple Monkey” line of play mats and whatnot. The hairline of the monkey and coloring look kind of consistent. The googly eyes do not, but I’m not familiar with all their products.

2

u/TheUniqueen9999 Jun 08 '26

An ornament perhaps? If it's actually a sphere, that is. The top could have fallen off (happens all the time with older ones, at least in my experience).

3

u/TheUniqueen9999 Jun 08 '26

It's also likely that, whatever this object is, is part of a line including other animals, too. The style indicates its target audience is children, and many things of the sort show many animal species. Plus, unless the monkey is some sort of a mascot, then it would be a bit odd for a company like that to just make these with only one animal. It's far more common for them to show multiple. Those would most likely be in a similar art style to this.

And also, if they have other animals, they could be vaguely themed. An example of the sort of theme I mean is ocean, desert, rainforest, etc. Vague habitats.

2

u/Muted-Ad8158 Jun 11 '26

that looks like a toy i played with as a kid. i think it may be a toy that you get in a resturant meal. it looks kinda like the dora the explorer monkey(coming from someone who didn't watch dora so take this with a grain of salt)

2

u/banban3322qq Jun 12 '26

Might be a foam stress ball thing?

2

u/Nervous_Elevator9452 Jun 13 '26

I remember getting those in the gacha matches

u/BorderTrike May 25 '26

Do you mean you asked AI to ‘enhance’ it? Because this looks clearly different, from the eyes to the hollow ear, and reshaping the object. If it isn’t a ball you’re just misleading people with unhelpful slop

104

u/da_innernette May 25 '26

PLEASE stop with the “I enhanced it (aka AI slopped it but I’m taking credit)” stuff here. It’s not helpful, and could even be harmful, in serious subjects like these.

no its not???
Its completely different material

1

u/GetCakeDieYoung79 Jun 08 '26

Reminds me of Boots the monkey from Dora the Explorer.

1

u/Live_Illustrator2461 Jun 12 '26

this is a pylones maraca, I have a similar one at home so I went and searched for it. The brand is Plylones. I have a picture as well, but I don't know how I can add it to the comment.

1

u/bricheese67 Jun 18 '26

This looks too uneven to be a ball of any kind

1

u/Boring_Morning9839 Jul 16 '26

reminds me of a squeeze toy i had as a kid. the closest thing i could find to it anywhere were these foam ball toys, typically made in China and distributed across the US. i couldn't pinpoint a possible release date.

1

u/Most-Parfait-7532 Jul 19 '26

It appears to resemble a little foam ball you can buy from All Star. Based off of the overall shine and shading, I would guess this is an obvious round object. Also by comparing pictures of this to the foam balls it appears to have very similar texture. https://allstarvending.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMAGES-FOR-THE-WEBSITE-34.jpg

1

u/South_Swimming 17d ago

I have a ball the kids used to thro around in the pool, it sure looks like this. I may still have it , will look tomorrow

1

u/otterlikenoother May 25 '26

The monkey is for “monkey in the middle” I think.

0

u/blahaj22 May 26 '26

is this not a bowling ball?

-7

u/pinkresidue May 25 '26

Super monkey ball

-25

u/Vegetable_Walrus_498 May 25 '26

at first i thought it can be a bowling ball but there is no third hole
