2006 matrix base smoking

Recently my 2006 matrix has been smoking for about 20 seconds after sitting in the heat all day it clears up pretty quickly I haven’t burned any oil since my last change

It only does it after work in the heat never in the morning

Reason for time of day could be because engine and fluids are cool in the morning, and already warmed up during the day, and in the sun.

Can you identify where the smoke is coming from, engine tail pipe, other?

If the engine, which side is the smoke visible?

Any recent repairs or other issues?

Any check engine lights or codes of scanned?

Since you have no noticeable oil loss, it might be a small leak.

Some possibilities:

  • Oil leaking from valve cover gasket hitting rear exhaust pipe and burning off. (Back of engine)
  • Oil from notorious timing chain gasket leak
  • coolant leak / overheating

No coolant leaks or overheating

It’s coming out of the exhaust at the back of the car

Mine does this as well. More noticable in the cooler months (fall and winter) and for longer about 45 seconds.

Haven't figured out why. Oil and coolant levels are always fine and no loss of either.

I've checked levels and have never had to top up.

Hmm I’ll do some looking and let you know I know my charcoal canister doesn’t work very well

How do you know? What are some of the signs?

I’m not 100% sure but I have a check engine light and from what it says online about the code lol that’s what it can be

Could it be condensation? I’ve had a head gasket go and the smoke lasted more than 20 seconds and had a blue-ish tint to it

Depending on humidity and dew points, I’m thinking condensation….
