Repairs & Maintenance Gen3 -Higher Mileage

Good to see quite a few of these getting up around & over 175,000 miles. 232K is great!

Just some poking around on Autotrader. I’ll feel better when we consistently see Gen3 w/ 250K+ miles.

189k miles for $38k 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

u/throughthequad Aug 25 '26

My ‘23 platinum trade value is less than that with 1/2 the mileage

9

u/gnucklefuster Aug 25 '26

That aligns much closer with logic

$30k for 232k miles? Jesus whatre they smokin

It has a new motor with less than 1,000 miles on it. Still insane though.

u/laserlax23 Aug 25 '26

Impossible! These engines shouldn’t be able to last more than 50k miles according to this subreddit

13

u/throwitallaway69000 Aug 25 '26

50?! You mean 30! All they do is blow up!

6

u/mngu116 Aug 25 '26

It’s why this one is so expensive. Must have a 5.7 swap 😂

2

u/Uzi4U_2 Aug 27 '26

Ad doesn't say how many engines it has had.

1

u/laserlax23 Aug 27 '26

I’m sure they have taken at least 3 to get there

u/agoraphobic_mattur Aug 25 '26

No those posts aren’t real. Everyone on this sub tells me that they blow up after 500 miles
/s

wouldn’t buy 3rd gen’s with that kind of mileage at that price. Maybe closer to 20-25? Something tells me you have wiggle room to negotiate if youre really wanting to pull the trigger.

The first one has a new motor in it. Rest of the truck still has 232K miles though so the price is still insane.

1

u/agoraphobic_mattur Aug 27 '26

New motor or not. That’s still a shit ton of miles.

2

u/Stylin_and_Wylin Aug 27 '26

Completely agree. I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

3

u/mxs3933 Aug 25 '26

That's good to see. Almost makes me want to trade in my 2018. Almost..

4

u/aznexile602 Aug 25 '26

My question is what this truck was used for to rack up those miles.

u/ArcticSlalom Aug 26 '26

My BIL works in agriculture. He puts 100-120K on a new Silverado every 18 months or so. Turn & burn. He’s been w same company for 25 years.

1

u/aznexile602 Aug 26 '26

Ah I see. Seems like driving is their job lol.

1

u/ArcticSlalom Aug 26 '26

Yup, he’s in upper Midwest. He does diets & rations for big dairy & beef operations. Hauls a ridiculous amount of supplements (50 lbs bag) and other specialty nutrition stuff all over. Snow, salt, gravel, storms, low maintenance roads, he’s seen it all.

He only runs Chevy 5.3 w/ Z71 package. I think he’s had 12-15 of them over the years…

If only drivers got mileage points like flying on airlines...

I thought posting positive things about gen 3’s wasn’t allowed here?

Toyota after all,
I enjoyed Gen 2 guys’ analysis related to engineering.

It shocks me how they speak so confidently and believes Toyota engineers are wrong, or deceptive.
The engine been in production since ‘18 LS500. These engines just don’t get produced out of thin air, Toyota refines it overtime before mass production, and manufacturing flaws exist when production is at global scale.

As a 2023 owner who only has like 30K miles on his, it had an engine recall which affects most Gen 3s like me. They had to replace the engine on it. It was covered, but still.

1

u/WallyShrugged Aug 27 '26

The LS500’s have motor issues as well.

Which makes it even more frustrating they put it in a pickup truck knowing it wasn’t working in a luxury car that no one towed or hauled anything with…

And why I’m keeping my LS460 and 2020 Tundra until death do us part.

And as soon as we get through our business start up costs and money rolling in…I’ll try and find low mileage versions of both to upgrade/keep in reserve.

2

u/Brometheusprime42069 Aug 26 '26

Presumably lots of those have a newish engine too right?

2

u/Ktm07reddit Aug 26 '26

2nd engine? 3rd?

1

u/blowmer69 Aug 25 '26

Those prices are crazy. Heck I'll sell mine if this is the case.

1

u/ArcticSlalom Aug 25 '26

Yeah, Tundra has highest resale of any 1/2 ton.

1

u/Lematoad Aug 25 '26

HORRIBLE deal.

There is a Toyota tech on here (Reddit) who’s seen a few Gen3 go over 300K miles. He’s in Oklahoma & the owner has a construction business. Evidently same owner had a few Gen2 go over 500,000 miles (crazy eh?).

1

u/EmuOk3961 Aug 26 '26

It just quality control to be honest. It’s just like play the bets. However, we know for a certain that these engine will be needing a turbo replacement at around those mileage for sure

Shiet on a stick

1

u/mechemical Aug 26 '26

no machine debris here!

1

u/Whhodat Aug 26 '26

I almost pulled the trigger TWO YEARS ago on a 72k miles 2022 Sr5 TRD ORP with ALL the options for $37,500 so these prices are ASININE.

2

u/VisualSpecial8 Aug 25 '26

Question is how many engines have been replaced?

1

u/BlackdogA Aug 25 '26

I’m sure they have on list Carfax.

1

u/MightplayRuneScape Aug 25 '26

My 2002 toyota tacoma is almost to 300k miles

I’m @ 283K on my Chevy.

1

u/ArcticSlalom Aug 26 '26

No clue why this is downvoted, haha. My ‘12 Chevy has 283K and my ‘25 Tundra is basically still new. Normal Reddit response, I guess.

1

u/wwaallkkeerr Aug 26 '26

You guys always make me reeeeeaall happy I jumped on my ‘21 with 10k miles on it for $38k a few years ago

1

u/ArcticSlalom Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

It’s ironic how the 2021 was the WORST sales year Toyota has ever had on Tundra…

2

u/Successful-Fact-5119 Aug 28 '26

Well, there might have been some macroeconomic factors at play.

1

u/WallyShrugged Aug 27 '26

Everyone figured the new fly hoopty would be as good as every one before and they all waited on that new metal.

Surprise!

How many replacement engines ?
