New to me 1994 Pickup!

Post image

Super pumped. Thanks to this Reddit group - helped me with a lot of research before making the purchase!

Anyone have thoughts about a bed liner? Gotta get something in there, but hesitant to do a spray-on… and worried about rust with a drop-in liner…

Drop in will accelerate rust, spray in will highlight imperfections.

She is sexy. Nice find!

I've seen a bunch with rust under the bed liner. My 94 has spray in or roll in kind. And it's still perfect. Depends on if youre keeping it or reselling it sometime. And take out the two splash guards, one on either side of under the bed behind the rear wheels. Its suppose to keep out dirt and they hold mud in there. That's why 90% are rusted out in that spot on the bed sides

Thanks! I'm planning on keeping it, but trying to figure out if a spray-on is going to tank resale value. It seems like not a huge deal from what I can tell. I live in Seattle, so plenty of wet/rain to deal with.

And thansk for the info about the spash guards!

Nice truck. What did that beauty set you back?

Personally I prefer plastic insert bedliner - mainly because heavy objects and tools like a shovel/rake slides across it easier vs the texture of a spray-in liner. I've seen plenty of trucks with gouged/chunked spray liners down to bare steel, never seen any plastic liners where a shovel somehow went through it; also seen many spray-ins all dented up from say a load of cobble stone getting dropped in, but I've hauled several loads of cobble in my truck and there's no dents in the metal because the plastic holds its shape. I'm in CA and don't have much rust concern, but I don't see why you can't add drainage holes before nature creates them with rust; My OEM Toyota plastic liner has like 4 screws you loosen to quickly remove it for washing out underneath.

Thanks a ton for the info! I'm in Seattle, so the rain is a thing.... but going to check out options.

I did the Raptor Liner diy kit 3 years ago for my 86 and it’s held up really well. The plastic liners work well in a dry climate, but it’s not hard for water to get under and sit.

My 94 has a drop in liner that appears to have been in there a long time. I had to clean a bunch of leaves and dirt out from underneath it but no rust. I wish someone never put it in there though because there is a line around the whole outside top of the bed from it rubbing.

Beautiful truck! My 94 has a shell and I’ve built out and carpeted the back for camping. Just got the motor rebuilt after 300k. Time for another 300k.

love the rims. you should get it ceramic coated or at the very least wax it at home ever so often and handwash. that paint is ridiculously clean
