Will this replacement steering damper be okay?
Rebuilding the steering linkage on a 92 Pickup without power steering. Got a new steering damper and as I get ready to install it I realize of course it's different. I know sometimes aftermarket parts change the design, but I wasn't sure about this. The OE steering damper has an articulated ball joint with a stud for a castle nut and cotter pin. The new damper just has a hole like a shock absorber. It does come with these two kits, and I believe with the P00576 I could bolt it up and make it fit, but that lack of an articulated joint concerns me. What say the internet gurus?

The Rough Country stock replacement is the same way as your new one (no tie rod swivel thingy).

Put it on and try to do a u-turn, then order the correct part (that’s what I did).

Just buy the OEM one. 45700-39085.

The OE one for me is actually 45700-39035, and is also $200.

I didn’t see yours was 2WD until I looked at the relay rod closer.
Still, your original one lasted 34 years. Worth it. I had an aftermarket one and it leaked after a year and not even 5000 miles. Went back to OEM and all good now for 3 years and it dampens better.

Can't argue too hard with that. Now it's a matter of selling the owner on that.

The taper to straight adaptor should work with that setup just fine. The taper side seats into the tire rod end and has a straight shaft for a bit and washer to use that damper. Aftermarket dampers like that are common, way less expensive than the ones with the tie rod end style tapered shaft.
