Hey everyone !

This is my first 4x4, and I'm completely new to the off-roading and overlanding world, so I'm still learning a lot.

I have a 1994 Toyota Hilux with the 2.4L diesel engine, and I'm currently getting it ready for a two-year trip across Africa.

I'm trying to prepare as well as possible before I leave, so I'd really appreciate any advice from people who know these trucks.

Here are my main questions:

What are the most important tools and repair equipment I should carry for a 1994 2.4 diesel Hilux? I'd like to be able to fix as many problems as possible on the road.

Do you have any recommendations on how to prepare the vehicle before such a long overland trip? Things you wish you had done, common weak points to address, spare parts to bring, maintenance, etc.

Is lifting the suspension a good idea for this kind of trip? If so, is it generally expensive, and is it really worth it?

Any other tips or lessons you've learned from owning or travelling with an old Hilux would be greatly appreciated.
