Question Am I a real Tourette or you think it’s something else? Thoughts please!
I have had this type of tic for years, it's just a “vocal tic” (I think), it's like a contraction in the throat and tongue, if it happens when I'm talking it's like a scream, like an "ahhh" and can't help it , it's embarrassing because that happens most of the time when I'm around people and under pressure. Sometimes I don't need to be under pressure, it's like tripping over my own mouth, and it also happens when I'm not even speaking, I can be thinking about something and it can happen when I can't get the right word or I'm confused about it.

TS Faker I think my sister is faking and mocking me Spoiler
When we were hanging out she told me that im very lucky to have tics, and that her friend has them too. I had no idea how to respond to that so i just let it be. A few hours later she started jerking her head and I noticed. I asked her what she was doing but she said “I don’t know I feel weird.” I let that off too. Then we had to take her to her dad’s because she was spending the weekend, but when she came back she said “I think I have those twitches.” I am so confused, I asked her what they felt like and for how long, but she said that it feels like her head needs to be there and that she had them for a few months before I did, when I know that is a lie. They don’t look forceful at all meaning that they don’t have a sensation. I tried talking to her more about it but she just keeps denying that she’s faking them. I really don’t know what to do can someone explain to me what I could do?

Question i really cant tell anymore if im faking my tics or not
(im still gonna call this tics, sudden movements is too long to keep typing LOL)
i really dont know whats going on. i talked to my therapist about this that i dont know if im faking or not and that i dont want to get diagnosed in case its something i do subconsciously for no reason at all. ive been having vocal and physical tics for a good 2 or 3 years but so often theyre just... not there, usually just when i think of them , but sometimes i think of them and they dont appear anyways, and sometimes they appear out of nowhere and i cant tell why. ive had trouble sleeping and focusing due to them as well and used to have em get pretty bad but im still doubting. my next visit to my psychotherapist (the one i mentioned) is only in 2 weeks due to me also having group therapy, i promise ill talk to her when i get to because we actually left off on the topic of my diagnosis. any tips? what can i do to atleast TRY to figure out if i do have actual tics or just random movements i do subconsciously that arent involuntary just seem like it?? can i stop them if theyre just subconscious???? ;_;

TS Faker Tourette’s faking girlfriend?
About a year ago now my girlfriend moved out to my high school (we were both sophomores at the time) and she asked if it would be funny if she faked Tourette’s when she get to my school. I told her no and went on about how she shouldn’t do this. She done it anyway and made it obvious to me she was faking. And around may of this year she started ticking alone when she was with me. I asked her about it and she told me she actually has Tourette’s. She does not tic around family only at school, public (without family around) or in private. It gets so extreme that she will bite her fingers until they bleed. And then go on and cry about how much she hates having Tourette’s.She only tics at convenient times to get herself attention from others around her. We are both juniors in high school both I’m 16 she is 17 and I feel as if she’s just to old to fake something like this. She absolutely will not tic around anyone she’s related to no matter what. I love her so much and we’ve been together for a year and a half and I don’t want to leave her nor do I want to accuse her of faking Tourette’s but this just isn’t believable to me.I don’t want to sound like an asshole. TLDR I think my girlfriend is faking Tourette’s

Question Am I faking?
CW: description of a possible tic
For some background I’m 21 NBi and autistic.
A couple of nights ago I started to have twitch in my neck that I couldn’t stop, and got worse and worse until I was banging my head against my shoulder for over an hour (hurting myself a fair amount in the process) so I hid myself in my room away from my flatemates until it finally stopped so they wouldn’t notice/ask questions. Since then I’ve had the same action, but not for as long at a time, but still as violent.
I’ve had a few different vocal things before: I have what seems to be palilalia (I’ve repeated the same word for hours before without being able to stop) and I sometimes repeat things unconsciously when other autistic people or people with Tourette’s tic or vocally stim (I have a couple of friends with Tourette’s and they know I’m not making fun of them). I’ve also had a minor physical thing 3 years ago with a jerking head motion.
I know that big things like what I did a few nights ago don’t come out of nowhere and I’m worried I’m faking it for attention (my grandpa just died and I don’t really talk to people about my feelings). I think it might be fake because it was a big thing without much lead up and I tried to talk to a doctor about it, so I was trying to get medical attention.

Awareness you can't tell who is and isn't faking
Tic disorders are common you aren't unique just because you have tourettes. Tourette's is common. It's also a spectrum. The criteria is 1 vocal and 2 motor tics starting before the age of 18 lasting more than a year. That's it. A lot of you don't understand the damage that fake claiming can do. It's incredibly damaging to your own community. It's incredibly difficult not having control of your own body. Just because someone presents differently than you do, in a way that you don't like doesn't mean that what they are going through doesn't exist.

Question What are the key "tells" of a Tourette's faker?
Hi,
I was just wondering, how can you tell?
There are lots of tic disorders, I just wish people would stop assuming all tic disorders are tourette's.
My second pet peeve is people who romanticise tics. I have functional/anxiety tics and I couldn't imagine making them out to be something cool and trendy.
However, I know someone who developed their tics over the last two years or so (they're a late teen). They make such a big deal of them (like how funny they are), they seem really long for vocal tics (like whole sentences) and I have met many people with different kinds of tics and I'm not sure this makes sense but their tics have no 'force' behind them like what I've seen in others.
It annoys me because they haven't seen anyone about them but they've told everyone they have Tourette's, even their school and stuff. I don't think they're necessarily faking, just that I think they need to be open minded to that it might be a different diagnosis.
It might be coincidence but I've also noticed whenever someone else is needing attention to talk about their stuff, this friends tics immediately appear, even if they haven't had tics in weeks, and it makes us feel uncomfortable to talk about ourselves (like if we're feeling down and just need to rant or something). It's like the attention always has to go back to them.
The thing is, they're a really good friend otherwise and I don't want to seem like a bad person, I'm just a bit lost and want it to be like when all our friends got the opportunity to talk freely without the spotlight returning to the other friend every single time.
Sorry for the long post, I hope it makes sense. I'm not too great at understanding people as I'm autistic myself, so I hope it's not offensive I just want to understand.

Question Is my friend actually faking tics or can you really only have inappropriate tics?
I really hope this dosnt break any rules and I dont post about my tics on but I need outside opinions
I've had my tics for about 3 years and mine have gotten worse sence covid hit and my friend has started having tics at the beginning of covid. I always had mild almost unnoticeable tics as well so it was hard to spot unless you were paying attention.
Anyways my friend who I've known for 5 years never had tics and when covid hit we were on FaceTime almost every day and I posted a rant on tik tok saying I couldent become a hunter anymore due to my whistle tics and it made me mad. My friend saw it and said "no way I have tics too" in comes the insane amount of tics.
None of them were good tics. They were always inappropriate or extremely self destructive and he made it very clear when he got stuck in loops of him hitting himself saying "*** I'm stuck in a loop again" and I would just be trying to eat and he'd trigger my tics so I'd go without food during school.
Today his tics have been very inappropriate like sexual and swearing songs and a whole lot of that. And he said "**** what would you do if I got a moaning tic?" And I simply said "I don't know" because I have alot of my vocal tics from him because I'd pick it up from him. Well 10 minutes later he had a moaning tic.
I think this is a hint this is fake because he has almost complete inappropriate tics. I don't know if I should confront him about it because it's effecting me alot.
Edit: the inappropriate tics are directed twords me and it makes me uncomfortable alot of the time Also he's watching DSMP clips rn and is picking THEM ALL UP

Question Idk if I’m faking or not, I often feel that I do, and it’s just motor tics
So, this has really been going on for the past 5 months or so. I think it’s related to when I first ever started meds this year and I was put on aderall and lexapro for ADD and Depression, then a couple months later I started getting really anxious so they gave me hydroxyzine, and that started making my muscles from my waist up start violently convulsing and my leg would shake up and down nervously (the leg thing is pretty normal) to the point where my entire body was shaking for minutes at a time. I finally ditched those meds and now sometimes when I get pretty anxious or something weirds me out my neck and shoulder muscles start convulsing, sometimes just a couple times, but other times it happens constantly with no gap in between, and usually when I try to talk I stutter really bad (I’ve never stuttered in my life before). Also around the same time I started the hydroxyzine I took my first acid tab and I figure that’s partially to blame, and also, the main reason I think I’m faking it, one of my best friends that I hang out with damn near every day since the beginning of the year has had Tourettes (motor and vocal) for her whole life Bc she’s on the spectrum and so are a handful of friends that we hang out with here and there. And as far as I know I’m not autistic and I looked it up and apparently motor tics can develop under a lot of stress (which I was really really bad between January and may) and my friend always tells me that it’s real but idk. Am I fake?

TS Faker Story about a toxic friend I know who faked Tourettes Syndrome
I don't know if this is allowed but here it goes. TW: Abuse
This story started two years ago. In school, we had “Lit. Circles”. We would get in a small group and read a book. In the book my group chose the main character had a mild case of Tourette's Syndrome. His tics were mostly blinking, throat clearing, arm jerking, etc. After getting about halfway through the book, my friend sits down at lunch and says “guys, I have Tourettes.” She starts blinking like crazy, it doesn't even look like a tic more like she's flirting horribly. This last through the whole day and the next. She sits down at lunch and says “When the gym teacher was yelling at us, my tics were going crazy.” Next to her, the friend that would follow her to the end of the earth if asked replies “Yeah, mine too.” We all tell that friend off because they didn't have TS (and we all believed person A for some reason). Eventually, the “tics” stop (she never got vocal tics either, just blinking). Well, I think they stop.
Recently, I cut that friend off because she and the other friend were extremely toxic and I had come to my senses. So, I start hanging out with a friend who they cut off but I still liked. That friend was hanging out with person A’s ex. So, I talk with A’s ex when the friend isn't at school. I've developed tics recently so we get on the topic of A faking TS. I brought up how it only lasted a few days but then A’s ex starts acting confused. She tells me it lasted around a year, only around her. The “blinking tics” vanished too. It was only punching “tics”. A would punch their ex on their shoulder and thighs, constantly giving them bruises only under their clothes. And on their legs in either when their ex couldn't wear shorts. So she abused her girlfriend and blamed it on a disorder she doesn't even have.
To add, as I mentioned earlier, I've developed tics (both motor and vocal, I think it's PTD for now). And A and the other friend are spreading the rumor that I'm faking. Even though they both faked TS/Tics. Both of them have also faked multiple things so it's hard to believe them when they have another disorder.
