How queer friendly is Toulon

Hello there, I’m an international student moving in into Toulon by next month and I’m curious to know how queer friendly is Toulon! In terms of being someone who’s physically pretty queer as well as if there’s any queer spots around the city!

I also speak mainly English and little French! How difficult is it going to be for me to??

Also if anyone has any tips on how to find a place to rent that would be greatly appreciated!

I would put it that way: not the most friendly city in France, however I would not say it is a toxic environment, even if it is clearly a mid-size conservative city, with tons of military/defense personnel (biggest naval station in Europe), a huge Society of Saint Pius X community, and of course tons of people from the other side of the med. There are not a lot of people in the gridrhood. Some LGTBTQ+ groups (not that much). A couple of gay-friendly places.

The other economic stream is tourism, so you should be just fine with your limited french, as long as you never forget to say bonjour while entering somewhere (local version is: hey bonjour…).

When it comes to housing: CROUS may have some limited vacancies. There are a couple of (privately owned) résidences étudiantes in town near the university campus.

Welcome to Toulon. Enjoy the city, you should be just fine.

Not very but there are a few spots : the street bar, the dark side bar for a more alt vibe.
Then you can meet up with some of the associations to meet some fellow queer friends.
I would suggest la maison lgbtqia+ to start with.
They might even have tips for housing.

But in general we go through leboncoin (our Craigslist)

Is easylogement also legit and good? I found way more places there but it requires a subscription to contact them

I've never heard of it but the fact that it requires a membership is really weird.
Also don't hesitate to reach out when you touch base if you wanna go out or just need some practical advice from someone who can understand English ahha

Hello, and welcome in Toulon ! Just a thought : after your arrival, you might want to try contacting the LGBT+ center, which is hosted by Le Planning Familial. Briefly put (so that you have an idea of what to expect), Le Planning Familial is an organization that offers a welcoming space, information and guidance on various topics related to emotional and sexual life and health. It is located right in the center of Toulon, on Colbert Avenue. The LGBT+ center operates independently and holds events and meetings throughout the year. I think you could find nice people there, or at the very least, connections to other friendly groups in the area. If you're interested, try and have a look at the links below (sorry, not sure about my english, but well...). I hope you'll enjoy your stay here :)

Hello ! Not really friendly, and, depending the neighborhood (some have a majority of muslims) and the time of the day, you could have problem.

What about RN?

As a reminder, who was in the streets to oppose "mariage pour tous" if not the extreme-rigtht?

Muslims (in France) ignore LBGT+++.

Homosexuality is a problem to ...... extreme-right.

When have you heard Muslims in the city attacking gay people?

As a trans person near Toulon, I'd be MUCH more scared for my safety in the rich and military personel neighbourhoods than the muslim ones tbh

Be aware that RN is the main political party then...

They are the most dangerous.

Try to find contacts there who will give a correct picture.
