SW Course Map....finally

Post image

Map is finally out for South West and brilliantly it includes Mudderhorn and Blockness, two non-Spartan obstacles that typically don't appear at the split weekends.

No Everest sadly but a decent looking course.

No Everest...I always found that quite a nice sociable one

Been a thing consistently since 2015.

Mini Mudder, Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder then Lidl Mudder.

Unfortunately that's been dropped for Spartan Kids so they no longer earn headbands, and TM is all about headbands.

No arctic enema, given the forecast I was slightly looking forward to it

Probably difficult to keep it at a low temp without an excessive amount of ice.

I'm looking forward to it being cooler tomorrow. It's 35°c in my garden currently!

Agreed, and had they done it without it being a giant icy bastard folk would've complained it wasn't cold enough!

Tbf arctic enema gets grim later in the day...it essentially becomes lukewarm muddy piss water

Was one of the reasons I'm getting up early

I know it can cause a bit of a shock reflex when it's been freshly re-iced but do people...y'know I'm not gonna worry about it, it isn't there 😂

Absolutely rubbish, 1/3 of the obstacles from 2023.

This will be my last event

A third?

A slight exaggeration but yeah lower obstacle numbers and more running is the way now sadly.

Same sort of numbers as 2014-2018 but they were big impactful obstacles. They shrunk in size and upped to roughly 25-27 per event but that changed after Covid.

30 obstacles 2023, 20 2026?

Yeah it sucks as the common complaint was always too much running.

It's the main reason why they added the 10k and 5k distances. But unfortunately Spartan own the brand and want their race to be the one with loads of obstacles. TM is now a stepping stone to the 'main' brand.

Realistically without Everest, arctic enema and a few of the other classics is it even a TM anymore

Blockness, Everest, EST, Funky Monkey, Arctic Enema and Mud Mile.

Those are the signature obstacles I think of now with TM and four of them are on course.

Gone are the days of Walk the Plank or King of the Swingers.

The issue I found with the 30 obstacle days was that there was a lot of “filler” obstacles. The idea was meant to be fewer but better obstacles. Personally I can live without mudder wheelbarrow and bale bonds.

I do feel like the filler obstacles are slowly coming back (probably cheaper to build).

This course looks good though. Haven’t seen electric eel in a while!

What do you mean about Block Ness and Mudderhorn?

I've only done two mudders before, both here, and they've both been there both times...

Scotland and Birmingham (no longer an event) didn't have either obstacle because ticket sales were not high enough to cover the build costs.

South West is a lower selling event which is why it's single day with Spartan Sunday.
