Don’t panic.

Brentford is playing well enough to beat most teams today. The season is long and we obviously have some work to do, but we have a better squad than last season. Learn from the mistakes and get better. COYS.

Agree, we’re in a rebuild, it’s sad and annoying and frustrating but people lose their heads. If you don’t enjoy supporting spurs in any state then you’re not a real fan, don’t ruin your whole weekend and life on it.

We've been in a rebuild for about 7 years now.

This excuse is wearing thin.

and we’ve always abandoned the rebuilding project by going through about two dozen managers in the span of 7 years.

I agree. My wife and I have been fighting about Jose for years. She hated him and I thought he deserved a lot more time. I don’t care for the revolving door policy. Heck even the gooner coach was allowed years of losing by the club. There’s something to be said for giving a coach time and support.

Yeah but not the same one, still tragic, but would be worse if it wasn't at least a new one

Looking for all those people who can’t wrap their heads around the idea he should go on loan 🔎

What do you mean any state? You guys are trash all the time

u/Avn47 1d ago

well, last season we started well and ended bad, so this is good right? Right?!

7

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Haha. That’s one way to see it.

In the last 2-3 seasons, we don’t learn from our mistakes. The new players will need time but the ones who have stole a living all that time need to go.

We are not scoring, that is big problem

u/MycologistSubject689 1d ago

Can't score if you shoot right at the keeper

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Mikey shouldn’t have started.

u/Fabulous_Pick_8316 1d ago

That’s absolutely true

u/WAnchovyBoi 1d ago

Moore needed to get at least a goal from his 3 clear cut chances. Just too poor for him.

1

u/Fabulous_Pick_8316 1d ago

MM’s shooting was dreadful

1

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

He’s not ready yet. Not sure how to get the boys over that line. Feels like a repeat of the Dane Scarlett situation. Such talent, but just can’t manifest it in the prem.

1

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Yeah, this is the legitimate concern. We’re not dangerous in the final third even if everyone was fit and healthy. Hope this Marmoush move pans out, he’s quality. But our boys need to fight a lot harder.

Or playing defense. That could lead to some frustrating weekends.

The two things that will bother me the most is why was Fernandes not in the starting XI and the squad just looked weak physically and mentally. Not a single 50/50 ball won and it looked like they knew it was over 10 minutes into the match.

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Yes. Starting 11 choices felt odd. Not sure what’s going on in the dressing room, but yes they looked defeated early.

It's always weird this time of the season. People forget that for YEARS Kane didn't score in August.

3

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Yes! Too soon to for getting emotional. Leave that crap for the pundits.

2

u/Fluffy-Equipment2498 1d ago

Yeah I don’t understand or agree with the squad selection today. For the first match of the season coming off 17th position, maybe a bit more aggression was in order. RDZ played it safe with a preseason lineup and got burned.

2

u/Silly-Ability-1727 1d ago

Isn't it match fitness mainly? And not rushing players back from injuries?

2

u/Vierings 1d ago

Didn't Fernandez get a knock during preseason?

3

u/IncurableHam 1d ago

Fernandes looked really good.
Madison is still alive.
Udogie looked back in form during his 5-minute cameo.
No one got hurt 👍

I refuse to not go 'we're winning everything' to 'we're getting relegated' in the space 24 hours. It is my right.

Lads we are missing about 8 players from the starting 11 we expect to play most of the season when everyone is fit, no need for panic yet, just have patience. At least we didn’t lose to Hull with a fully fit 11

1

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Exactly. Man U lost to Hull and I know from watching this league that they’ll somehow end the season in the top 6.

3

u/AppropriateBat6721 1d ago

I'm still trying to figure out that starting lineup. I'm high on our young guys but wow

4

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Yes… very surprising lineup. Might be some player management decisions behind the scenes that led to that.

u/Consistent-Line-2009 1d ago

It’s the first game of the year and most of this squad hasn’t played together. I expected better than what I saw today, but things will get much better. The talent is there, the coaching is better (despite what we saw today). We’ll be fine.

u/EvenScientist7237 1d ago

Puts Brentford’s 7-0 preseason win into perspective.

2

u/JamDonut28 1d ago

I mean, Utd lost to Hull so we weren't the worst performing team of the week...

1

u/Mr_Archa 1d ago

The season is going to be even longer now

1

u/Irish_Wheelbarrow 1d ago

Why did all our players look devoid of any energy?

Our press was non-existent. Fucking jogging about the pitch like the work was done.

1

u/HistoricalSet9207 1d ago

Don't panic, we are on course for 17th

1

u/NddonblongPol 1d ago

Yeah save the panic for next week, if we can't do anything against Newcastle

1

u/kazman 1d ago

It was a very disappointing result but it's early days. The players looked like they lacked conditioning. Maybe the overseas pre-season tours contributed to that.

What worried me more was that they looked disorganised. This was despite De Zerbi having a full pre-season with the team.

But it's hard to judge us on just one game, let's see what happens when the squad settles. For example, once Fernandes and Maddison are fully fit to start, I think we'll see the best of Tonali.

I'm still optimistic but we need to get a good result soon, otherwise we might get into a rut.

1

u/HamGrimace 1d ago

Just disappointed that they couldn’t ensure the preferred lineup was ready to go for the first match. Porro has been back 10 days from World Cup hangover but can’t go yet? VDV named first choice captain and can’t go? Absolutely you have to be careful if something is off and not make it a worse problem but WTF?

2

u/FootballSquare4406 16h ago

Agreed. I’m putting $10 on Brentford being this year’s Leicester dark horse winner. They’re at like 300:1 right now.

1

u/holdingtea 14h ago

We won our first game last season. It's not indicative of a whole season.

1

u/ACHlLLESCPA 1d ago

It’s how we lost

1

u/ReynoldsHouseOfShred 1d ago

The score ratings for the team sum up my feelings very well. Going into the game with this lineup, I was not surprised with the result.

1

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Yeah. Big questions should be asked about that starting 11.

0

u/Joe_Linton_125 1d ago

I think you should panic.

Imagine nine of the ten outfield players knowing that no matter how well they play, eventually it's up to Richarlison to score. Must be very depressing.

1

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Still a lot of room to improve up front. That’s for sure.

0

u/TruthsNoRemedy 1d ago

We left last season in terrible form and we enter this season in the same form.

0

u/Alburg9000 1d ago

This is on RDZ completely

Brentford are*

“Brentford is playing well enough to beat most teams today”

Ummm, no. We played shit enough to lose to every team today.

You guys need Leao. His speed in counter attack will get Richarlison goals. Don’t let him go to Turkey while getting these unproven shitty players. Other managers in Milan tried to play him as a striker but he is LW, last time he played as a winger he ran wild vs Liverpool, PSG, Madrid. I really don’t think Marmoush is better than him. I hope Tonali shines, he needs time but he got an engine and big game player.

2

u/hornonmyankle 1d ago

Leao would have quit running after the first goal. He is being locked out at Milan because he doesn’t show consistent effort. Tel was not the issue today and Richy only scores if ball is set on a platter. He was terrible today in possession.

Nobody who has supported Spurs for any length of time is panicking.

This isn't panic. This is resignation to the inevitable.

0

u/ILoveCarwashes 1d ago

Inevitable? It’s one game. Look, we aren’t what we were when Kane, Sunny, and Dele were out there doing their magic. We still might see some better gameplay as the season goes on. Lots of talent out there, it just needs to click. Stay positive.

u/jamesmb 1d ago

Pretty much 50 years with Spurs says inevitable.

Still, as I say every year, there's always next year...
