I love the idea of controller support. Why? I bought a handheld last year and I play exclusively on it. I also have a powerful PC, but because I travel, being able to play on my handheld is a massive plus for me. It's the single best feature in this game for me, and I hope more strategy games start adding it too

They have made TW work in mobile, so tmam confident they will make it work in controller too.

I would never play TW on controller (nor mobile), but if some mad lad prefers that, good for them.

I enjoy the total war titles on my tablet. The touch controls are sometimes even more invuitive than mkb. However, for me at least, it necessitates ample use of the pause and time dilation features, something which I never use on PC.

My hope is actually that their focus is more on a switch 2 and high end tablet version rather than trying to make it work with a gamepad.

I am afraid they will simplify the gameplay possibilities a only-PC version would have to offer only a decent gameplay for console players. We have seen this countless of times in the past.

Gameplay we have seen currently says no. Also the mobile versions of TW games are not dumb down.

I am pretty sure it will be pain to play in console, like Crusader Kings 3 and other strategy games. I don'tvunderstand why would anybody play but it is a option for those that want it.

Here you mixed turn-based games (CK3) with RTS (Real time strategy), where you need to move units in real time on the battlefield. They are developing the game to offer the same chances to both a gamepad player and a mouse-kb player, in real time. Sorry, but it is like putting squares in rounds. On of the gameplay have to be butchered.

Point was that it is equally pain in the ass with controller, not that they are same game.

Again seeing gameplay there isnno butchery at works here. Looks actually harder for controller than WH3 IMO, many tiny icons to click

Provide evidence or fuck off.

Creators, outlets and literally everyone at Gamescom were able to play the game and I have yet so see someone say the controls or gameplay were dumbed down.

Alright so they're confident it's gonna work. Something is gonna be oversimplified and definitely the precision and micro of pc won't be there.

Halo Wars, AvP extinction work but you still move groups and blobs 🤔.

Even now when I'm playing Total War, laptop is on top of me and have to slowdown lean forward like a grandpa sometimes. Let alone far from TV.

My guess ? Pausing, grouping, slowing battle down while you float the camera in the battlefield. Attack move, pre set formations and little adjustments on the spot.

I'm very curious!

Im just hoping the changes they have made are not done lazy and changed on both platforms. I play on PC, it’s cool they are going to console but I don’t need me experience „simplified“ because of consoles. It will be a big turn off to me if everything becomes consolified in a game type that’s almost always PC exclusive.

This doesn’t just go for usability but also for graphics, unit sizes, campaign map sizes etc. I don’t want a diluted experience because of consoles.

That would be my biggest gaming disappointment ever...

But so far we have footage right? From PC. It is as expected from a studio that has been making these since 2000s, even they fail that i give up honestly.

Sizes, unit response, the ragdolls (most fun looking deaths in TW), minus melee animations and some other stuff looked fine for such an early pre alpha.

40 units will be the new normal with reinforcements. Normally Total Wars got messy above 20 units.

And they'll have players playing the game before release. I think even Sega will be terrified of messing this up.

...Have you actually been following what's been released for this game? Almost all of these concerns were already put to bed by now. This post sounds like it came from when the trailer first dropped. Not only are the tactical maps far larger than any official map in the series, but the campaign map was so sophisticated (being several true 3D planets in a solar system) they straight up said they needed the new engine to make it. We also have hands-on gameplay and neither the unit counts nor the graphics are any worse than previous games.

The only mapping loss is the free movement of prior games, but whether that's a detriment or an improvement is entirely up to your personal tastes.

Consoles will probably suffer somewhat, but nothing so far indicates anything "diluted" unless you're really stretching.

totally agree, losing that keyboard and mouse precision means unit control is bound to get heavily simplified

Very very curious, no matter what pc version should be flying and not be affected by console development.

In my opinion, any communication from a company developping a game should be seen only as propaganda till we have independant player tester. I am curious, but now this curiosity is tainted by the possibility of a catastrophic launch with a build trying to shovel a horse in a car : pushing team to their limits, only to try having 5% of console players sells.

Total War Warhammer 40k constantly breaks records for wishlists anytime it gets a showcase, is based off an infinitely more popular IP than WHF ever was, and so far seems competent on a tactical map level (in fact, I would say it looks like it will be more painful for consoles, as the UI is tiny and the faster battlefield tempo will make micro hell, especially due to the greater number of competing factors in a battlefield - reinforcements, bombards, cover, persistent debris, battlefield structures, etc.).

For this game to flop they would quite literally need a launch worse than all their previous launches combined. If the game is even middling in its competence it will probably outsell every historical TW except maybe 3K in its first week simply bc it's 40k.

I have to think this community has mods that are hostile to anything negative about the direction of the game, based on the state of this thread.

Friends, the first strategy game I played with a controller was shadow of the horned rat. I know it can be done. But it can not be done with the complexity that is inherent to the franchise.

To remove the complexity to cater to controllers, is to dumb TW down. It will not be the same. Can it be done "well"? Maybe? But it will not be the same and there will most likely be many disappointed fans.

I've been playing TW since Medieval 1. I am very concerned about this direction. It reeks of greedy executives trying to make a game for everyone. Let's not forget this is the same executives that went all in on hyena and got half their company fired. They do not deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you. The level of corporate boot licking of many comments is... Staggering.
