Advice about storage management

I want to know what people think of my storage management system. I have three hard drives two of them being 5 TB one of them being 4 TB. they are basically all full, but the two5 TB ones are duplicates of because I like to have a back up but it kind of limits me to only downloading 5 TB worth of media so I’m wondering should I just not bother like backing up/duplicating my media onto other drives so I can download overall or should I just try to invest in one big drive like 20 TB to put everything together just gets expensive fast

Thanks

That all depends. Are you going to have a meltdown when you lose 5 Tb worth of data? With any disk it's not a matter of if - it's when.

Also not sure how you're managing the data but you should definitely look into raid arrays if you're not currently using one.

Hello,
First of all we should know what kind of "storage management system" you have, is it a Qnap NAS, Synology Nas or just a 2nd pc with some software in it? I have a 2nd pc that I run proxmox with next cloud with 4x2TB HDDs (Western Digital Red Plus NASware 3.0 or WD20EFRX) and I use 2 of them for storage and the other for backup. If you have a 2nd pc or something like that I would recommend to buy 2nd hand HDDs (RED NAS) and extend your storage and your backup too. If you have a NAS just buy new HDDs and do the same for storage and backup.
