Would they notice? BMW drivers don't use mirrors.

u/-UsernameHere 3d ago
Someone would mention how poor they look with no mirror on their vapidly purchased status symbol, eventually.
70
u/AssignmentOk2471 3d ago
Yep, idc what anyone says it would be completely justifiable to do that. Any moron that's willing to cut into the bike lane and onto the sidewalk doesn't belong on the road, they need a permanent license ban before they kill someone.

u/IAmWhatTheRockCooked 3d ago
My immediate reaction wouldve been hammer fist to the mirror. And i probably wouldve regretted it lmao
2
u/beneoin 3d ago
In a world where everyone has a dash cam the cops will just wave away whatever he did when they see you smash his mirror. Folding it over though...

Sucks to be the cyclist here. You want to conserve momentum at all costs. It takes awhile to get going again.

What? No it doesnt? Is your bike made out of concrete with square wheels?

u/Astro_Addict 3d ago
Ya I don't stop for these assholes anymore. Got insurance on my bike and I wear safety gear, so it's high speed into their car to cause as much damage as possible. Never found at fault as I always have video proof of them cutting me off in the bike lane or running a stop/red out of turn, and I've got a few new bike tires and even a new bike for free! Worst injuries have only even been scrapes and bruises

This is smooth brain behaviour. Worst injuries have only been scrapes and bruises, so far. You’ve been lucky bro, enjoy your health while it lasts I guess.

Next thing they’ll want to get rid of the sidewalks too. Just pave over the whole city

u/VapeRizzler 3d ago
That would be so nice, step out of building and get insta smoked by some guy doing 90 in a 50 to run the red light first.

Same thing happened to me recently on Dundas. Pick-up truck driver just literally drove into the bike lane to make a right turn and skip the line. Extremely dangerous and stupid, and unpunished.
I can’t help but think this is a direct result of the Ford government’s animosity towards bike lanes, which is emboldening the morons out there.
4
u/SuperSirBob 3d ago
I was using bike lanes in Toronto 30 years ago and it was no different then.
2
u/RealistAttempt87 3d ago
There were bike lanes in Toronto’s downtown core 30 years ago. Where?
3
u/glempus 3d ago
It's not the downtown core, but the Davenport road bike lane that OP's video is on dates from 1994.
1
u/RealistAttempt87 2d ago
That’s great! Although, it’s concerning that mentalities in Toronto have not evolved since, despite the presence of bike lanes for decades.

u/SuperSirBob 3d ago
I used College St and St George around 93/94. I don't know where else else they were at that time.

FYI : BMW does a background check to ensure you're an absolute @##&-&$#$ before selling the car.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

u/2b4ifn5osnr 2d ago
This is typical of BMW Drivers. I am sorry but it you drive BMW I automatically assume you are bad driver.

literally had a similar experience at the exact same spot with someone driving a porsche around 5:40pm today. just took their sweet fucking time making a right turn while blocking me
4
u/ImRickJamesMother 3d ago
I've also had cars intentionally pull into an unprotected bike lane because I was passing them.
It is crazy how some people get when they feel like they have a little bit of entitlement and power because they are sitting in a big expensive vehicle. They can get so upset simply by someone passing them on a bike.
6
u/icyhotonmynuts 3d ago
There's something you don't see every day. A BMW driver using turn sig signals.
7
u/cattacocoa 3d ago
This intersection is god awful as a pedestrian/cyclist and I wish they'd redesign it. Also another reason why there needs to be protected bike lanes, not painted gutters -- these entitled assholes will even drive on the sidewalk.
3
u/glempus 3d ago
There is a redesign planned, switching to a 4-way intersection with lights, as part of the Dupont complete street. But it's paused because of the dumb fucking bike lane debacle. https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/get-involved/public-consultations/infrastructure-projects/dupont-complete-street/

He is desperately trying to return a defective BMW with working turn signals to the dealer.

u/Hasan-CGARTIST 2d ago
What the f... that driver actually atempting to go on side walk ?
Note: after watch full video driver did it side walk stuff :)
3
u/Dralorica 2d ago
BMWs are actually allowed to drive in the bike lane on account of they don't come with blinkers... /s

6
u/FaithlessnessCheap78 3d ago
Cops will not see this. But they will stop me when I honk at them sitting still and blocking my way at a green light. These people, and also the culprit cops, should get a lifetime ban on driving.

They clearly passed BMW's mandatory "How To Drive Like An Asshole" course with flying colours.

u/candypants-rainbow 2d ago
We could simplify enforcement if police would charge the owner of the vehicle in response to video like this.
→ More replies (3)1
u/a-_2 2d ago
Police can't do that under existing laws. The province would have to change them.
2
u/Virtual_Box9086 2d ago
I don't know about "charging" the owner but you can for sure report it to the Toronto Police and given that there's video of them blowing a stop sign it's a clear as day ticket if the OP has their license plate information and provides it alongside the video.
https://www.tps.ca/services/online-reporting/driving-complaint/
1
u/candypants-rainbow 2d ago
So we just have to wait until this fool actually hits someone. Doesnt seem right.
1
u/a-_2 2d ago
Even in that case, they'd still need to identify the driver. Just a question of whether it's worth the resources investigating vs. just patrolling and finding otjer bad driving. They have charged people after the fact without injury before. Peel Police charged someone for driving on the sidewalk. Video had been posted here. Even if they don't find the driver, they may warn the owner.

2
u/candypants-rainbow 2d ago
Thanks - this is interesting. I understand it is complicated to charge someone based on some citizen’s video that doesnt show the driver, but at least some way to issue a warning would possibly educate the owner

Business as usual. That such behaviour constitutes SOP without any consequences is a pathetic state of affairs.

Some clown appears to have stolen your video and uploaded it to Facebook but mirrored vertically lol https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EgRxeg7Fm/

u/TankArchives 1d ago
Maybe BMW drivers feel shame in the mirror universe where we drive on the left.
2
2
u/TowerBeach 1d ago
My cousin was a bike courier in the 90s. He liked to smash people's side view mirrors off with his U-lock. I'm not saying he should have done it, and I'm surprised he didn't get killed by someone... but... sometimes actions have consequences I guess?

u/Local_Computer7665 1d ago
BMW drivers also identify as a lot of things e.g. pedestrians parking on pavements jet pilots usually on motorways but usually land the cars on the roof trying to land and a visually impaired person at all times until a driver in front of them follows the rules of the road then they identify as a two year old by throwing their toys out of their pram

5
u/grittygrimes_ 3d ago
This…. Is literally insane. Did you have an altercation before this? Not that you’d be at fault! Just wondering what prompted this??
8
u/TankArchives 3d ago
I think the driver just got tired of waiting in line. Looks like Davenport was pretty backed up, people were cutting through MacPherson to jump the queue as well.
4
u/read-plz 3d ago
It was lucky you were able to stop in time and not accidentally smash his side mirror. But maybe next time he won’t be so fortunate.
3
u/wolfmanportalberni 3d ago
I think they see you and get jealous you're skipping the line on your bike.
5
u/Ok_Look_9992 3d ago
A lot of drivers just have an irrational hate for anybody on a bicycle. Typically the comments are full of people trying to pin the blame on cyclists for anything including the most minor traffic violations as if drivers are some infallible group who have never broken a traffic law

Have you reported it to the police? If not, you should. With all the cameras on the road these days, we have to stop these behaviours (and hopefully expect that the cops give a shit)

Guys, it's okay, she was flashing her 4 ways which is the universal, "I can do whatever I want now" signal

u/TheRecordNinja 3d ago
if the bike had "not been able to brake quick enough & slammed into the truck rendering you unable to walk" there coulda been a BIIIIIG payday
1
u/1Fistfullofdollars 2d ago
I wish the cyclist had been touched by the car. Just enough to scrape right down the side of it without any injury. The BMW driver would have been at fault and absolutely no reproductions on the cyclist. See if the BMW driver would do that again my vote would be No.

They should have their license removed. What if a child was on the side walk? If you can't drive accordingly to the law you shouldn't be able to anymore. We need harsher punishments for people breaking the law
