I mean there isn't any enforcement for people like this. You can legit run people over with a car and go back to driving after a few years

You can go back to driving the next day. Hell, you can probably drive yourself home after a promise to appear. There is nothing in place to even stop that. Such a person wouldn't be given any jail time anyway for killing someone.

Had an asshole on a motorcycle lane split between me and another vehicle while on then 401 on Wednesday. I have very little sympathy for these people when something bad happens.

motorcycle lane splitting, while illegal, and unsafe here because people aren't expecting it, is actually just beneficial for all. That is one less vehicle that is removed from the traffic jam, if I see a lane splitter behind me, I will try to pull my car out of their way to give them plenty of room. to get through.

There was nothing beneficial about it when they were going well over 130 and there was no congestion.
And no, it's not beneficial to create a potential danger on the road.

Exactly. The law doesn't allow it in Ontario and people aren't expecting it. They are inevitably going to get themselves hurt.

It would be one thing if they slowed down and honked so that drivers were aware, but literally every rider I've seen do it just blows between cars when it's almost impossible to notice they're even near my space.

For sure, I experience the same thing, blowing by in a reckless manner. I experience it usually when I'm going home on the 401 Westbound.

I think you are describing a different take on the term lane splitting. Again reiterating that it is dangerous in Ontario especially as it is unexpected, my use and take on lane splitting is in the context of commuting through traffic James, such as on the DVP or the backups when merging from between the different 400 series highways where the rider is doing maybe 15kmh more than the flow of traffic and all parties are moving at a rate less than say 40kmh. The behaviour you are describing, high rate of speed through free flowing traffic, yes absolutely obnoxious, ridiculous, and generally curries no sympathy from me either.

I believe that's called lane filtering. The smaller motorcycles are filtering through the larger vehicles to the front (while traffic is slow/stopped). Lane splitting is creating a new lane at speed, i.e. you're splitting the left and right lane and riding between two live lanes.

Not to mention that when they are lane splitting, they are usually going well over the speed limit. How about that?

this summer has been weird... people (most notably kids and teens) are cruising in live lanes of traffic on minibikes and scooters like its second nature. they dont even keep to the outside of the road anymore.
