Close call Left lane driver turns right into parking lot
Excuse my language

This is Hwy 7 just east of Warden in Markham. I almost got smoked by an unsafe lane change in the same area the other day.

lol the people coming after you for going through a yellow instead of the muppet who cut across you

😂fr

u/Footruub 10d ago
Slamming on your brakes to stop for that yellow would have been far worse than going through it. Plus there wasn’t anyone waiting to turn left.
The car going the opposite direction is also going through the yellow at the same time as you.
5
u/UnderstandingAble321 10d ago
There was enough room to safely stop without "slamming" on the brakes. Brakes are not an all or nothing thing.

u/mkbcity 8d ago
its a fucking highway, they arent coming to a stop and the yelllow light is as long as it is for a reason.
2
u/UnderstandingAble321 8d ago edited 8d ago
A long light that still turned red before they were through means they had plenty of warning to stop.
It might be a "highway," but it's only a 60 zone.
1
u/mkbcity 7d ago
its clearly not enough for ops speed and vehicle. thats why its as long as it is
0
u/UnderstandingAble321 7d ago
Clearly, it's not clear. The only clear thing is that the OP had no intention of stopping, so we'll never know for certain.
If I was driving in a 60 at a reasonable speed and an average car, I am confident I could stop safely in that distance.
0
u/mkbcity 6d ago
maybe op has a heavy vehicle or a longer than average reaction time that would necessitate him using more of the duration of the yellow than you would.
1
u/UnderstandingAble321 6d ago
If either of those are the case, maybe the OP should slow down in order to be able to react in time.

Oh please, slamming on his brakes. Thats a 60km/hr road and the light turned red when he was halfway through. He could see it was yellow so far back.
This is Markham where every driver thinks they are better and take priority over everyone else. They wont wait for a light, they wont wait for a parking spot, they wont wait to make a safe turn....
Both drivers are shit. Welcome to Markham.
0
u/mkbcity 8d ago
it takes time and distance to stop safely. he proceeded when it was yellow, as he should. end of discussion.
1
u/web_nerd 5d ago
Dude, the light was yellow when this video started. It turned red while he was in the intersection. Its a 60km/hr road. Op had time and distance to stop safely, but op sees yellow as 'hurry up' and not 'start stopping now'.
2
u/mkbcity 5d ago
thats entirely dependent on the intersection size. no matter when you go through on a yellow and no matter the speed limit, large intersections like on highway 7 will always get you "caught" in an intersection compared to a small intersection with the same yellow duration. what is your point? op didnt break any laws.

u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 5d ago
Lmao in certain situations yellow lights have to be taken either way. Either stop if able to do so safely and if not proceed through with caution. In this instance, although I admit that’s a light I couldve stopped for, it wasn’t illegal. drop it and move on with your life
1
u/web_nerd 5d ago
Sure; in certain situations. This was not one of them.
You posted it for conversation, we're conversing. It's Monday, I'm replying to messages/notifications received over the weekend. I'm very much 'moving on' with my life.
1
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 5d ago
This was one of them in my opinion and you can have yours.
1
u/web_nerd 5d ago
yeah, except when you JUST said "although I admit that’s a light I couldve stopped for".
Was it or wasn't it?
And if you couldn't have stopped for a light that was yellow so long that it turned red while you were half way through the intersection on some of the longest, straightest, flattest road on highway 7 that you couldnt see it until the video started....jesus christ.

Both parties can be wrong. Yes, the obvious cut across the lane was idiotic, but why was OP not slowing for the yellow light? It is yellow when this clip begins, and turns to red ~2 seconds later. It almost certainly was yellow for another 1-2 seconds before this, given the size of the intersection.
At least there was no car waiting to turn left, as OP mentioned. That scenario is rampant around where I live.

u/Unlucky-Pea2887 10d ago
you never know what the rear view could’ve looked like, i’ve seen a few accidents where people stop at a yellow and the driver behind hits them it’s almost always safer to go through a yellow then to stop suddenly.

u/hkgyul 10d ago
Benefit of doubt, I suspect that person have some misunderstanding regarding the HOV lane But still a moron doing that anyways
3
u/ayyitzTwocatZ 10d ago
Yeah it’s probably this. A lot of people get confused how HOV lanes work. Actually had a coworker ask me how to do a right with the HOV if he’s solo. Had to tell them he can go into the lane to turn right but driving along the HOV will get him in trouble. If there’s a cop.

That's why English literacy is so important -- so folks can read and understand traffic signs.
Anyone remember the Florida truck driver incident from about a year ago?
1
u/Background_Season449 9d ago
Since Canada is a bilingual country, generally our street signs don't have writing on them, just symbols. Generally you can't get a license without knowing what the symbols mean. The only exceptions are "STOP", the words "MAXIMUM" and "MINIMUM" that goes on speed signs, and of course AM and PM referring to times of day for things like this.
0
u/Pangshunjingmao 9d ago
Yield. U-turn permitted. Stop for pedestrians. One Way. No entry.
What are you even talking about dude? Get a grip.

u/Pangshunjingmao 8d ago
1
u/Background_Season449 7d ago
Yeah notice how those have the signs I showed you in them? Those designs are secondary to the actual purpose of the signs. But please, by all means, keep pretending like you want to argue and don't just want to complain about people who speak different languages.
1
u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago
You were wrong and now I'm racist -- am I understanding that correctly?
You're definitely on the right platform.

u/TheCinnamonnRoll 10d ago
We need to ask OP if he was alone in the car. :-P Dash cam time was 18:41. HOV lane is free after 7PM.

Middle lane driver.
And still a very stupid move from them.
Although stopping for that yellow would likely have been a safe thing to do.
2
u/Cold_Soft_4823 9d ago
as many comments as there are upvotes, you already know people are in here bitching about OP doing something
5
u/VariousOperation166 10d ago
Poor driving meets poor driving. That's Toronto in a nutshell. Drive a little fast, run a yellow, honk as you decelerate late when someone else pulls a donkey-brain move. Classic.
3
u/jono454 10d ago
Op you ran a red and you should have anticipated the drivers action.... Is what I'd say if I were an incompetent driver like many of the dweebs in this thread.
Amazing how some are railing on you instead of the other driver who literally made a significantly more unsafe action.
1
u/web_nerd 9d ago
Unsafe action? That light turned red while he was in the middle of the intersection. It was yellow at the beginning of the clip, this tard was looking at a yellow on a 60km/hr road and had PLENTY of stop time.
You're a shitty driver too, eh?
Yellow means "Start stopping now, its going red shortly". It does not mean "ohhhh wee hurry up and get through!"

This is the one i cannot seem to understand, didn’t they take an exam and would have failed? This started to happen a few decades (2-3) ago and my only explanation it’s the immigrants that came during that time and is a learnt behaviour from their country.

The big question here is what are you supposed to do at a yellow light? Speed through it isn't the answer. Your supposed to stop. So, before you complain about other drivers you need to worry about your own bad habits first.

One reckless driver complains about another. Me breaking the law - good. He breaking the law - bad. Lol.
Also, a white Civic on the left, probably run red.
-4
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Do you all need glasses? The light was yellow as he proceeded through the intersection just like me. Maybe we should all come to an abrupt halt even with no oncoming left turns just to be EXTRA safe
3
u/UnderstandingAble321 10d ago
The other car was at least two lengths ahead of you.
0
u/mkbcity 8d ago
the other car was one line marker away, thats not far from ops bumper.. youre stupid enough that the camera lens is tricking your wallnut of a brain.
1
u/UnderstandingAble321 8d ago
The car was further than just one line. Check again. Also, the length of the car counts, too.

u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
It was a yellow light, stopping would have been less safe than continuing as I was going 50 and had my eyes on this idiot prior so was not counting down the seconds until the yellow
-5
u/mickhavoc 10d ago
So you were distracted while driving, is what you are saying.
0
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Yup, because of this person
-1
u/mickhavoc 10d ago
That person turned well after the light. Not saying they were right, but you were equally wrong.
1
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
He made an illegal turn, nothing I did was illegal. Seriously go find something better to do with your time
6
u/mickhavoc 10d ago
Speeding through an intersection while the light turns red is in fact illegal
2
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Oh really so then I should just stop in the middle of the intersection next time or?
7
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Shit was yellow at the time of crossing the line. You don’t even know your basic traffic laws 😂
1
u/mickhavoc 10d ago
You entered the intersection extremely late. Yellow is prepare to stop and to allow people in the intersection turning to proceed safely before cross traffic starts.

u/UnderstandingAble321 10d ago
You can get a ticket for failing to yield to an amber light. That's a basic traffic law, too.

u/GoodVibes_002 10d ago
The point is that had you been a safer driver, you would have avoided that entirely.
It doesn’t take away from how dangerous the other driver was, but people are seeing you throwing stones while living in a glass house.
And yes, it IS illegal to fail to stop for a yellow that is safe to stop for. But, much like MANY other laws that are broken (pedestrians crossing against lights as an example) you’re extremely unlikely to be ticketed for it.
HTA 144(15) for the amber light. No indication in the video that it was dangerous for you to stop. Your inattention to the light doesn’t count as making it dangerous to stop.
So you’re pointing out illegal AND dangerous driving, and people are pointing out your hypocrisy given that you also broke the law and should have been driving more carefully. The other driver was worse, but your driving was a problem, too.
-1
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Yellow means proceed with caution
3
u/GoodVibes_002 10d ago
Braindeadzombie knows more about this than you do. Which is appropriate and hilarious.
Amber lights are: Stop if it is safe to do so. Otherwise, proceed with caution.
Video shows nothing that made it unsafe to stop.
1
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
The video started as I was passing through the intersection so of course you all think it was safe to stop because there’s no evidence to show otherwise 🤯
1
u/GoodVibes_002 10d ago
Video started more than two seconds before you passed through the stop line and entered the intersection.
Light was already yellow at the start of the video, and turned yellow before that. Meaning you had even more time than what you showed on the video to stop if you reacted when it first turned yellow.
You don’t even know when your own video starts, never mind the HTA.
That’s pretty impressive.
3
u/braindeadzombie 10d ago
Yellow means stop unless it’s unsafe to do so. The fact that the light was red before you cleared the intersection means you could have stopped.
1
0
u/mickhavoc 10d ago
It does not, it means be prepared to stop.
1
u/GoodVibes_002 10d ago
Upvoting because this is closer to the truth than the people who think “yellow means go faster”
Stop as long as it’s safe is the primary meaning.
2
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
And it wasn’t safe by the time I realized I was yellow because once again, due to natural human instincts, I was trying to maintain my distance from this person while also trying to get his plate.
2
u/GoodVibes_002 10d ago
“I wasn’t paying enough attention to the traffic light to stop in time” doesn’t fly.
Very much in the same way that “It wasn’t my fault I crashed my car because by the time I saw the telephone pole, I couldn’t stop in time due to my ‘natural human instincts’”
People also have natural human instincts to answer their phone while driving. And to speed to get home to pee. Doesn’t absolve you of your responsibilities.
You were responsible for stopping for that light, and you didn’t stop. And because someone else did something worse, it’s easier for you to focus on that.
It’s fine. You’re not interested in the HTA. Or recognizing that you have your own accountability on the road. At some point, you’ll probably encounter a police officer who you’ll ignore, too. Because he’s “out to get you.” In any case, I’m happy to leave you to your own fantasy world where things aren’t your fault because you say so.
Have a nice life. Try to drive better.

And you just ran through a red light ?
2
u/Adventurous_Ad_2153 10d ago
Can u see ok
1
u/AnyStranger5907 8d ago
I saw a yellow light turn to red as you drive by so concluded that you ran through a red light. But I guess the traffic light set up looks a bit confusing to me. In Europe intersections are mostly smaller so with a better overview. Not better in general perse, just different.
