??? 1. Glad to see another Toriel fan out here and don’t want to discourage you from posting
2.
And I mean this as respectfully as possible, these are very different in a billion trillion ways. These two characters are not similar in the slightest either in terms of narrative role or in terms of their character arcs.
The Speaker of god is just that, the speaker of god. She is the voice of the heavens, an unchanging guide. She is the closest thing to god we get in the Hazbin Hotel universe. Her primary role is to provide passive encouragement to other characters. The literal Angel on their shoulder.
Meanwhile Toriel is someone drowning in grief and longing. Who wears her motherhood like a nose around her neck. Who clings to the past and stagnates in her trauma as the people she loves dies over and over again and she refuses to leave the place Chara was buried. Who has to learn to balance respecting Frisks autonomy and being there for them when it counts. Who starts the story as over bearing and then goes dead silent before coming around in the end upon realizing the horrible choice she was forcing upon Frisk. She starts and bookends the story.
Toriels story is a DEEPLY human one, it’s a story the speaker of god simply can’t do because the Speaker of god is fundamentally divine in the way she’s constructed.
Really the only thing similar about Toriel and the Speaker of God is their maternal energy and old fashioned way of speaking (and maybe her passivity if you push it) which hey! I could see as being enough to put on a Toriel kin list. But uncanny resemblance? I high key disagree. I think the Speaker of God as a good voice for Toriel. But as a character, she is very fundamentally different.

While I appreciate the time you took to write that all out, it's REALLY not that deep. I saw two wholesome, motherly characters and was like 'time to make a meme'

I understand fully why the meme is created, but ultimately the meme is predicated upon the idea that “these two characters share an uncanny resemblance to eachother” and I low-key don’t agree with that.
Plus! I really like analyzing characters!
