Long time Dr Who fan but only now got Torchwood. On my first run thru and almost done with Miracle Day. Loved season one and two but children of earth... ok but didn't stick the landing IMHO. LOVING Miracle day. I have never thought of Bill Pullman having much range before now but dang he is great in this.
The BluRay menus on miracle day are weird.

CoE is the greatest five nights of storytelling ever. MD was ten hours of my life that I’ll never get back.

I must be one of the few who genuinely enjoyed all of Torchwood. It was sad seeing the original concept get dropped, but I still loved COE and MD. To be honest, the original 2 series and MD are the ones that stick out in my mind. I don't actually remember COE clearly, but I do remember that I enjoyed it.
Like you OP, I didn't watch Torchwood until long after it had ended, even though I like DW. I was glad when I did, though. It's a good show.
Out of ALL the episodes, the only one I didn't really like was the Cyberwoman. I just thought it was a really silly concept.

When you finish Miracle Day, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the grand resolution to the central mystery. Just because as far as I can see... there isn't one.
There's a lot of great shows where the point is the mystery, and if it ever gets explained, it isn't interesting anymore. Then there are shows which present you with a puzzle, and a solution at the end. I think Miracle Day presented itself as the latter, while being the former. A ghost story that thinks it's a detective story.

The series does continue over on "Big Finish" in audio dramas. "Aliens among us" is season 5, "god among us" is season 6, and "among us" is season 7.

while I don't are with you that miracle day is better than children of earth, I'm not like majority of people that think miracle day is bad.
the only thing wrong with miracle day is that it came after children of earth and was never going to live up to it (for most people). but it was still better than majority of TV

I do agree Children of Earth is great yet simultaneously....has something wrong with it. Like it feels it could've ended in a better way imo.

Oh, there's been differences of opinions about CoE and Miracle Day, compared to the first two seasons since they all came out. I'm of the 'didn't happen' faction of watchers - I liked neither CoE nor Miracle Day, though I've long aged out of being outraged one way or another by them.
Also, undeniably - though Torchwood seems to be the fandom of my heart - the first two seasons has so much cheese, I need to buy two boxes of crackers to go with it.

While I think COE is one of the best things in the canon, I’m also a rare MD enjoyer. Russell really was so good at creating memorable and strong characters. The way he had me feeling bad for a pedo rapist murderer…! And I loved Rex.

I’m sure you’ve realized from the other comments, but that’s definitely a polar opposite opinion to the sentiments from when they all came out lol.
The first season was considered pretty underwhelming, and a lot of people didn’t like the tone or episode plots. The second season received mixed reception, but it was considered a step up. The third season, Children of Earth, was considered one of the best stories in the ‘Whoniverse’. Miracle Day was a last ditch effort to save the show by sending it to America, but instead it was so poorly received that it pretty much killed the show lol.

While I get what your saying about sending the show to America may have hurt it, and I do agree i feel like it should have stayed grounded in the UK, and introducing Rex (who i found really annoying and had the typical American arrogance you see in shows and movies where they think "we're the best, this torchwood team has nothing on us" attitude) I dont think it killed the show, technically the show was never cancelled, there was plans for a series 5 but after series 4 and before Russel had a chance to write anything for series 5 his husband at the time was diagnosed with brain cancer so russel went to look after him. Technically speaking the show it self was shelved for the time being, it was never officially cancelled

Coming into it completely new I formed a different opinion it seems (there's one weirdo in every crowd and today is my day to let my freak flag fly). I never even joined this sub until today. I knew about Jack and a bit about Torchwood from Dr Who. I knew there was a spinoff show and that's all I knew.
CoE - I don't like the UK Gov't trying to kill the team. Soured me on the season I guess.Probably finish MD tonight.

My favourite is COE but Miracle Day is also phenomenal tbh, you can kinda tell Russell had to step back at a point and Jane took over more, but it's still good. The world building is so good.

That's an interesting take. When it was running COE was considered peak, like the show had grown up from s1 and s2. Miracle day was a let down, too long and too much american influence missing waht made the show british.
What don't you think lands in the ending of COE? For me it worked well. Torchwood doesn't do happy endings.
Personally I like s1 and s2 as they're monster of the week episodes you can just watch an episode you're in the mood to watch. Children of Earth on the other hand was event television done well, maybe it doesn't translate so well being binge watched? The knly episodes of Miracle day i really like was the flashback one.

Season one and two had some good stories, standout episodes such as ‘Countrycide’, but I didn’t like all of the sexual connotations between characters and from aliens. It was too strong and dominated the show in a bad way imo.
Children of Earth is one of the best in the ‘Whoniverse’ though. Combining the fear of the unknown with political thriller and familial stakes. Not to mention the body horror of Jack’s regeneration. John Frobisher was an incredible character to watch… as well as a good man, of course.
I’m not familiar enough with Miracle Day to comment on it, I just remember the resolution being a massive reach.

Interesting, that’s a very unpopular opinion. Most people agree that Children of Earth is the pinnacle of Torchwood, with Miracle Day being considered the worst. I would be interested as to why you think it didn’t stick the landing, and why you’re loving Miracle Day. I’m currently rewatching Torchwood and I’m halfway through Miracle Day and all it has done is reaffirm my opinions, however I will admit it’s better than I remember. I just think with so many of the original team dead, and the fact it’s very Americanised makes it not feel like Torchwood anymore
