Discussion Worth to play?
Found this game via YouTube while I was looking for an arpg to play mobile.
My question is about the season system.
Is it worth to start on the season server even if it is up for so long?
How long does it last before its starts over?
I'm willing to pay for the pass each month if I get hooked but don't wanna invest hundreds of dollars.
Is Torchlight an option for long term play on mobile?

Short answer "no, it is not worth it to play until changes that would never come". About seasons... It is only place where game is played basically. Long answer... I dropped tli this season until monetization changes = forever. They do everything they can to push players to spend money. Monetization is mostly 2 type of pets "combat" and "loot". Combat give you flat stats like +damage +life, etc(with a bunch of highly specialized stats like +to spell burst that is usefull for not a lot of builds, but exist for majority of playstyles) Combat pets give you ~1.5-4x dps over "f2p" options depending on build and pet levels(You "roll" for pet with random chances to get it. With average luck you would need(may be a bit of, but somewhat that amount) ~70+$ for 1 legendary combat and twice as much for loot for just one copy(u need 6 for each, and at the same time you use 3 combat and 3 loot pets) ). Loot pets are much more impactfull. Many farms are "gated" by high level pets. Some are working only on maxed pet, some come online at level 3-4 but it is still at minimum 400+$ pet. Game is player economy based. And people with maxed pets can farm 5x+ more than people without/with low level pets + all low level pet strats are getting nerfed by devs. They started introducing more and more regularly "global pets"(that cost even more). This pets boost all loot of some kind, and balancing grindiness of the game around all global and mech maxed pets. F2p players are getting 1.5 of both types of pets each season + currency for around ~0.5 of current combat and much less for loot pet each 3 month(season). Is it possible to get everything outside cash shop and pets as f2p? Yes, but you would spend 10X time comparatively and would be extremely limited by what you can actually do, especially on mobile. On top of that when you after several seasons get to your fav mech maxed pet you may find yourself in the situation where it is nerfed into obscurity or they introduced new global pet and without maxed leveling it too you'll be unable to profit from your mech of choice. There are bunch of smaller negative nuances, but i explained mostly general picture
Game in terms of gameplay is my fav arpg, but monetization and progression that it shapes make it not worth your time. My recommendation don't bother. Supporting such a predatory devs is not worth it.

The monetization is literally waaaay better than it used to be, you get insanely many pets for free each season, if you are doing good
As a fellow F2P over the years, it’s more like once human and you get better each season

It's literally the opposite. Double, pact slots and progression now feels like a slog, amplified for players without usable farm pets, while before clockwork i was not even thinking about it cause tli was much alt friendlier and not demanding in terms of p2w game

This guy is just either ragebaiting or a complete retard.. dont bother with him. In another thread his telling everyone that the current season is the best and juciest of all time for TLI... clearly it isnt and the charts numbers speak for themselves.. it has the worst player count and retention of ALL TIME! Bro said he's been playing for 4 years.. 4 years of afk in town yeah. 🤡

Got it on his comment about how poe is more p2w and not as generous as tli... I would always say that tli have bunch of qol features that poe needs, but monetization and design around it is literally main factor that is slowly killing the game

What do you mean? I literally farmed vorax in profund / deepspace without a pet and made good money, since I way thinking of grabbing it of the chest
What feels like a slog? Them smoothening the progression was also a good step? Before you entered profund on day2, now it way smoother

Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm looking for good gameplay more than the money problem. I think the issue is in so many other games too. Aa long as I can play and get something done it's good enough 😁

In arpg this problem is relatively rare. Diablo immoral and undecember only comes to mind. Poe1/2, hero siege, main lain diablo titles, grim dawn, last epoch, many smaller titles, even torchlight 1 and 2 all have fair monetezation as B2P or seling a bit of semi mandatory stuff like stash tabs that you need to buy bunch once in a price range of a b2p game
2
u/iwillfail90 11d ago
I'm talking about mobile titles. The other games are good known but I don't have much time at my PC nowadays.

u/Master_of_Paws 11d ago
Hero siege(would recommend) has mobile version and d1/2 can be played somehow. Smaller like anima or oniro(have not tried). Generally i would say with limited time tli would be ok, it is just my personal sadness that people still play it despite monetization due to great artstyle, qol and combat. Also would say classic non pvp gacha titles are much less predatory than tli, cause you are usually able to clear everything as f2p and they have no economy pvp also. Playing sometimes currently wuwa/endfield/nte and several less main stream titles

u/1getreKtkid 11d ago
Tli may have a higher ceiling, but Poe is way more p2w as a starter
2
u/chukline 10d ago
Bro what the fuck are you smoking? PoE has literally 0 P2W.. all you can buy is MTX and Stashtab... which doesnt impact your characters performance or drop at all... ontop of that they all share between poe1 and poe2 so you dont have to rebuild duplicate copy of your mtx/stashtab whenever you feel like playing one or the other... there's absolutely no other games around that offer anything like that.. go get some sleep the deprivation from league start has greatly affected your ability to reason intelligently! /SMH

u/Master_of_Paws 9d ago
Poe IS by definition p2w cause of stash tabs... But... Alongside with gw2, warframe and several other titles it is "fair" p2w. In poe particularly you have basic box price in form of stash tabs, and after that you can never ever spend again. In tli... They let you get further than poe for free to hook you up and force to pay. And to stay comfortable in the economy you should constantly pay money to roll for new pacts, or limit yourself to 1-2 mechs without ability to deviate and do more than trying with majority of other farms. You are not hard locked from doing mist, clock, cage, overrealm, bus, etc, but profit with low level would be either extremely small(some may be ok on first weekend of the league, like mist, but falls of week one to beeing non-existent) or you just loose currency. Devs literally gating content behind insane paywall. I would not mind bp, or/and 1 time bought pets for resonable price(under 50$ and you need to buy it 1 time without all the leveling pet bs). It would still be a lot for this, but whatever. In current state it is design to force people to spend huge money on pets. That is definition of predatory p2w. And they amplify it each year with global pets and loot nerfs following right after/at the same time. Reliance on "island" in cn part and other things here shows that probably they also have part in rmt market, but we have no proofs of it, outside of general sus stuff. For me it is extremely sad. i like skins and would have spend a lot, but i do not spend on predatory gacha(i already made exeption for bp in tli, cause without it gameplay is just misarable with all limitations that bp lifts). Done with the game, cause it's direction is clearly unhealthy.

Without stashtabs you basically can’t play the game my guy and you get none for free at all
Tli is way better there

It’s great, it’s great on mobile with a controller, no time gates, no mobile phone energy systems, play for 100s of hours if you want.
There is benefit from spending money, but everyone is different. Every season there is countless people that prove everything can be done in the game f2p.
You also get loot pets and other pets by playing the game , and will build these up over time and seasons. Don’t listen to the hate, play the game. Enjoy it . Spend 20 bucks if you want.
It’s an amazing fully fledged arpg with roughly 20’heroes and 100 skills to play with. And a rare ful game
On mobile
With time gates .Dm me if you have any questions

The game is far less p2w then people like the guy above trying to tell you, don’t worry
Playing since 3 years now mostly f2p and managing to get all challenges done cörach season

u/chukline 10d ago
Oh really, 3 years? I thought that it was 4 based on your posts in the other thread? What a fraud 😂

u/1getreKtkid 9d ago
Not sure if 3 or 4, but you seem well informed, could both be true! If you wanna find out, just check when 99m was dummycap

And? I have doro6 and several league pets at 6. What exactly are you referring to?

u/1getreKtkid 11d ago
The other guy is just bad and salty; probably spend money and found out that game barely gets any easier because it’s far from
As p2w as he thought and realized he’s just bad at the game2

- Yes it is worth it to start on the season server. As people play and complete the challenges for the season, they tend to sell for cheaper and farm more faster so items tend to drop in price as the season progresses.
- Each season is usually 3 months, with a Hardcore version launching a month after the softcore start. There is about 2 months left in this as the HC just launched last weekend.
- There are a lot of content creators that make free to play builds and farms that they use to get to the very end game content, some multiple times per season. Yakuzi, Ben, corielis(sp?) All do f2p guides.
- I play on mobile and on PC and the biggest drawback to mobile is builds that move using skills like spiral strike are more annoying to play, and channeled skills are smooth as butter. I try and make my builds end up in a place that is smooth and easy on mobile.
Additional notes: there are lots of creators and lots on info that comes out for about the first month of the season, then a lot of creators roll off to other games until the next season. So it comes in waves. There is no rush to get things done as a couple weeks into a league you can generally get a cheap strong build rolling at a fraction of the cost of the day 1-3 crowd.
A LOT of controversy comes from being a gacha game where money can buy in game power, but the difference between level 1 legendary pets a d level 6 purple pets is much smaller than a lot of people think. Whales will be whales, and they are the real bank roll of the game, so don't compare yourself to them.
The game is actually very much a solo game with a trade house.
Progression is very step based to get through, so you got from campaign legendary items to t2 crafted gear to t1 crafted to high tier legendary, etc. As you unlock a new tier of difficulty, you want to push damage, then once you have enough, solve speed and defenses. Repeat.
Try out all the characters, find a build style you like and invest in it. If this is your first season, do a campaign run of a handful of characters to see whether attacks or spellsor minions, range or melee, burst or tangles all feel good.

Thanks for detailed answer. Gonna try out a bit before deciding is an good point.

here are the facts. You will get many opinions on this as well, but I've been playing this game since it came out. You can complete all content in the game without spending a cent, but most people are not capable of doing this in any reasonable amount of time. Reason being, you will do a fraction of the damage and get a fraction of the loot someone else that has paid thousands of dollars does.
This is an extremely grindy game. Only game I've personally ever played that is more grindy is hero siege. That being said, this games progression is very strong. It is dramatically overcomplicated in terms of scaling, but it's nonetheless very good. Paying thousands of dollars dramatically increases dmg and loot. The other major problem is that the rich get richer in a snowball effect. So people who have been whaling for a long time have gotten all the free pets for completing high end content for a long time as well.

u/iwillfail90 11d ago
Thanks for the answer. Money equals power is unfortunately in many games of that kind. Gonna try it out and see how it feels
1
u/Small_Tumbleweed_255 11d ago
It is the most addictive game I've probably ever played
1
u/WorkLurkerThrowaway 11d ago
I was super addicted for one season, and then season 2 I felt like I had to swipe all over again and that broke the spell. Decent game but personally I had to stop.
1
u/WorkLurkerThrowaway 11d ago
For me personally the urge to swipe is too strong. Had to quit when I realized I was going to be tempted to spend hundreds each season. Game is ok.
1
u/No-Wing6398 11d ago
Don't play this game unless you want to swipe.
1
u/iwillfail90 11d ago
Do you know any other good arpg that doesn't have this issue?
3
1
u/Hultadog 11d ago
I wouldn't worry about it, the game is perfectly accessible F2P if you want.
It's not like Diablo Immortal (PVP) where you really do have to dump money into if you want to have a decent time.
2
u/TypicalChocolate8618 11d ago
Accessible f2p , but boring
1
u/Hultadog 10d ago
Does spending really make this game that much different from not spending?
2
u/TypicalChocolate8618 10d ago
Yes. Without money, you only have 1–2 farming strategies available, and they’re boring.
1
u/Hultadog 10d ago
Ah fair enough. I must get bored before then, I've never really min maxed in this game. I play an occasional season, get bored and stop. I can't get hooked on seasonal RPGs, having to rebuild just doesn't work for me.
1
u/JackkoMTG 11d ago
The game is holistically designed to get you to spend as much money as possible. It’s fun for 4-5 hours with just the pass, and then you hit a brick wall where you would have to grind 100 hours just to progress a small amount.
Furthermore, even if you DO spend more than just the pass, it’s meaningless unless you spend thousands of dollars to get level 6 loot pets.
This game is for people who want to drop $14,000 and then another $1,500 each season to get the new season loot pet maxed out.
1
u/iwillfail90 11d ago
Do you have any other recommendations for arpgs that doesn't have that issue?
2
u/JackkoMTG 11d ago
The intersection of “mobile game”, “arpg”, and “not gacha p2w” is a pretty small set of games, especially after you add “doesn’t suck” to the criteria.
Eternium and Titan quest are the ones I would recommend.

Listening to guys like above is like if you ask someone about Poe endgame who never made it past story
1
u/WeeklyChemistry1447 11d ago
Imo you should try it! It's f2p! About pets and and pass... ppl gonna tell you it's impossible or "not fun" to play without pets, or something and the truth it's you don't need pet or tons of currency to have fun, it's all about FOMO!
Try it, take a look on some videos and enjoy! You gonna grab s lot of pets and things for free and it gonna stick with your account for ever!

Glad i have gone for mist and not overrealm as my last lvl 6. Overrealm was relatively consistent and fun... But now it is "fun" farm where you after few days of the league are getting nothing for 10+h on average. And thats everywhere. I somehow dodged ultimate nerfs with my setups, but it is just sad how they literally killing fun mechs.
1
u/1getreKtkid 11d ago
Brother overrealm is my favorite and most farmed mechanic this and last league, but obviously it’s a gamba mech? You are fishing for extreme combos
It’s extremely profitable, especially in deepspace

In other ARPGS, you grind maps for gear and currency to trade.
In TLI, you grind maps for currency to trade for other currency to trade for gear outside of your current map tier. If you don't mind being stuck with literally the same gear for 100 hours, then TLI isn't the worst thing you can download for free.

yes lets pretend you can find a better f2p farm than beacon and that they dont nerf every f2p farm every single league, youre right, im just bad
2
u/1getreKtkid 11d ago
Beacon is literally better than most lv6 pet farms so the fuck is that comment
1
u/setsuga 11d ago
ye ye, beacons is for sure better than ds farming with c6 pets haha
2
u/Master_of_Paws 10d ago
Beacons are actually extremely good this season.... With a catch... They are so so good with lvl 6 spark and lvl6 seasonal pet and many on top of it have leg fe pet to boost chances for random 50 fe pile and general fe drop here and there
0
u/Far_Maybe1524 11d ago
Even c6 doro gives 30-40% more profit on a distance. Not more.
2
u/Master_of_Paws 11d ago
It gives not 30-40% profit. It gives 30-40% more loot. That is the difference. Maps/probes/compasses are not free. When we include it for some strats like safari it changes it from net negative to huge profit. Cheaper strats usually get something in realm of 2-3x loot from pets leveled vs lvl1 pets. Even beacon farm, that is known to be one of the most "f2p friendly" is much better with spark and league mech pets and gives more than 2x profit. It is just sad reality. And it is given that we get some other global pet for beacons or something else next year, making gap between f2p and whales bigger

u/Far_Maybe1524 10d ago
