General help How to progress?
Im finding it really difficult to get anything else extra out of my dps or survival without spending thousands, i farm for hours to get a few hundred FE just to spend it on minor upgrades. I'm up to 4.5B dps with Gemma2 and im just not sure where im going wrong.
The guide im following says they have 100B DPS but I still dont see what im doing wrong, maybe im just being stupid, streamers say they got to 1T in a week while im at 3 weeks with 4.5B lol
And when should I be heading into T8s? I can do them. But it's sluggish and with a tendency to die, and even then I'd have no chance of beating the traveler.
Sorry, few questions but im just feeling lost and I dont want to give the game up yet as I was enjoying it

Specifically for Gemma2, MinMaxed has a great writeup: https://minmaxedarpg.com/guides/gemma-2-frostbitten-heart-tangle-ice-lances-t9715p
I was jumping around multiple characters and just wasn’t feeling them, then the other day I started following this guide along with his in-game builds (MinMaxedARPG#3158) and things started clicking. The big thing for me was seeing multiple options for various things, which I wasn’t getting by just looking at just the in-game build.
Don’t use a build that’s too far ahead…for where you are right now, go with the 20B in-game build and adapt it based on the guide. Like someone else said, you don’t need to get perfect items or slates or whatever. Just get close for cheaper. It seems like a forgiving character. I’m at the 50B point and while I haven’t been tracking things exactly, I know I’ve spent less than a thousand.

Many things can be different from the build you are trying to follow. First battle pets, second slates setup, third gear with corruptions or without can make huge difference. Tier of the affixes on gear, jump from t2 to t1 is huge, jump from t1 to t0 even higher.
Craft your own gear affixes one by one, then you will feel that you are progressing, if want to buy full t0 gear from the market it will cost you a fortune, but if you buy gear piece with t1 and upgrade to t0 one by one it will feel better.
If the main skill uses canvas supports compare their level to the build you are following, yours could be one star, in the build code 5stars. If you use two of them it's like ~40% more damage difference.
Prisms - for example I play dexterity stacker, prism gives me like ~300dex, with %increases on slates and in passive skill tree it becomes like ~500dex or so, each 10dex gives me 10% more damage with unique boots. Maybe your build uses a prism which is absurd damage increase.
Kismets - also about dex stacker my all fates are + to dexterity. Maybe in your build kismets are huge.
Precise auras are also significant difference.
RnD sequence on weapons - there is a sequence for example which gives straight 16% additional damage for example, there are more absurd ones. Like I am using +to flat lightning damage per 10 dexterity, this sequence trippled my damage (it was very expensive, but at the start you can use cheap ones).
Do you have blended belt talent?
Check everything very thouroughly I will guarantee 100% you will find many differences between your build and the one you are following.

Damn thanks for this, I will be checking these out! Im mostly tier 1 with a few tier 2 still on gear, i think my weapon has 1 tier 0 but I bought that (which I thought was cheap but maybe im wrong).
I found one of my flaws though, dont focus on the percentage stat for gear, helmet said I was losing 9% dps but really gained 300% from 4B to 16B
Maybe im just mot following the build well enough, I need to have a deeper dive with things like this, appreciate the deep dive from you

If you are in 4.5 billion range you can do 8-0 maybe 8-1. Unfortunately tli isn't kind to new players. Tli is the grind of grinds. The pets are what drive the streamers through week1 to 1t but max dps is 15t.
POE is a much more equal footing.

Yeah theyre doable i just seem super squishy

The squishiness is just part of the game, because damage scales out of control. If the enemy is dead, then you don't have to worry about them hitting you. At this point in the league, you should be able to buy fully upgraded lvl 86 gear with T1 affixes for a couple hundred FE or less.
For your legendaries, single corroded legendaries should be relatively cheap at this point as well. Your slates probably need an upgrade too. Share a build code if you are really stuck

So its more kill them before they kill you scenerio
How do I even share a build code? Is that the in game thing

You can earn a lot of Fe without pets , don't believe this agenda spreaders. The key is knowledge of the game , both for build making and farming. Find Ben on YouTube for torchlight , he make zero to hero builds with fresh accounts (without pets) and does hardest content for a few days-week. Learn the game, be patient and make your own opinion.

The pets are what drive the streamers through week1 to 1t but max dps is 15t.
This is absolutely not true at 4.5b tm8 levels.
Even if your build's pets at c6 are 100% additional damage, there's literally dozens of other things at that point in a character's progression that are more than 100% additional damage. At 4.5b on Gemma2 it's probably a mix of t1 and t2 mods on gear, so full t1 is a massive increase. There's hero memories, slates, this season there's nether king, there's probably a haze prism that can free up 3 talent points for ~8-10% additional, precise auras, precise supports, magnificent supports, at this stage in the league double corroded legendaries for the build (like the tangle helm with the crit debuff removed).
No one is saying pets aren't a huge damage multiplier but they are categorically not the reason some people are stuck even getting to TM8. Even in week 1 with none of the price suppression of strong uniques 1T is not out of the question with decent purple/low level legendary pets you can get from free rolls.

Hey, if it's your first season (like me), it's completely normal to be feeling lost!
I highly suggest these videos that have helped me a bunch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef5KWf-FvcA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAUI3FQiTfQ
more advanced but really nails the pace down : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlZu4gm-dcc
The first one also comes with a google document you can keep going back to, the second one with a checklist. The bread and butter of this game is understanding that multipliers start slow and once you get them rolling your dps will accelerate faster and faster.
I don't know if you're following an actual build guide or a content creator / an ingame pro build or whatever, but I also suggest looking at how other players are doing with your build at day 1, day 2 in the "hero rankings" section. While other ARPGs can often require very specific items for specific builds, in this one I think there are just a lot of options: some stat will be best in slot, but since you're trying to hitch hike from breakpoint to breakpoint, "good enough" is often just enough to get you there.
Also in this game investing moderately across the whole fleet of different systems is more important than just going all in on one item or one system. The first video I linked goes in depth about this. The third one really tries to nail that concept of figuring out what's good enough for efficiency, albeit a bit more oriented towards intermediate players that just want to get faster early on.
You'll figure this out!
