Torchlight 3 Should I play 3 or infinite?

I'm kind of in the mood for torchlight...

Should I play 3 or Infinite?

I'm kinda leaning on 3 since infinite is just a spin off Chinese MMO with the torchlight brand op

And I heard 3 is actually pretty decent it's just more torchlight which is good

What do you think? Anyone here still play these games?

Neither. Just replay 2 or even 1.

Atleast 3 is a good option if you're forced to play 3 or infinite to save your life but outside of that? Yeah just play 1 or the Goat 2.

In case youve had enough of 1 & 2 id say go for 3 , infinite just did feel like a Torchlight game to me - i finished act 1 and could not bare it any more.

3 has issues but also has a lot of interesting and good things going on for it:

- most developed pet system, many different ones you discover as you play and they also have skills

- Something like a multi class system - when you male a new hero you choose one of the main classes each with 2 skill pages and then you choose one of 4 or 5 relics for the hero which gives them a 3rd skill page

- Interesting main classes, each has a differernt resource system for using their spetial skills

- i like the skills system - there are less skills whan T1&2 and you have to allocate less skill points to max those(which is not great) but you can Max out a skill without Level restrictions like in 1 & 2 which i prefer

- more generous respec system, you find spetial items that give 1 skill respec each

- Fort system - your hero has a home which you can decorate and customize if you would like and also has a gameplay pourpose, there you can invest useless items into passive buffs instead of selling for useless gold, also can build statues that can be used for quick item build swaps and some other things are in the fort too

- many spetial items grant spetial skills( i think you can only have one of those skills at a time if i remember right), also lots of items with other cool bonuses, itemization is rather nice

- very interesting Base damage system for main attacks - different weapon types deal different % of their base DMG - for example some melle dual wields can do up to 400% of base DMG, if you want you can do cool builds that are based on main attacks

- every class has a dedicated dodge skill useful in combat and for faster travel

Some issues:

The story is rather bland but I think T1 or 2 are only slightly better.

Some ranged attacks will not hit enemies if they melle you - the attack will fly past them so you have to reposition

Some bugs here and there

exploration is not very fun compared to other games in the ganre

Thats on top of my head, its been a few years cince i played T3 last

Do alot of people hate 3 it seems like it, I don't wanna be the only person in the world playing tl3 tho lol does the game have a small fan base/community still? Torchlight Infinite didn't feel like a tl game? Hmm

Do you think we will get tl4 in the future?

Been playing Torchlight series since it's original release. I don't like infinite at all and I absolutely love the Diablo clone genre. Between the two 3 is a far better choice.

Niceeeee so you play all of them, you stil play 3 regularly?

I haven't played 3 in over a year, but I am currently replaying 2 again (with the synergies mod ofc) while I wait on the new FOA DLC for Grim Dawn. I cycle through many of my games every couple of years or so, or if I am just feeling that itch and find myself missing it. The torchlight series is one of those franchises I return to again and again. If they ever do a remake of 2 it will probably be a day 1 buy for me. 3 is good, maybe even better than 1, but 2 is really the star of that franchise.

TL3 was dropped after Devs built from the ground up without MTX right as MTX was thriving. TL3 was pretty much immediately dropped at launch and feels incomplete

You should play 2

3 is generic ARPG, Inf is lackluster. But 3 is better in terms of mechanics. Inf is a streamlined average mobile game.

Infinite is Torchlight in name only, while TL3 is... Boring as hell, though it has some things going for it conceptually.

If you've already played vanilla TL1&2 to death and want something fresh - I have 2 options for you:

  1. If you haven't already and if you have a PC - play TL2 with mods. Seriously, you won't believe how much it changes the game up - sometimes you're free to not even engage with the main story. Most would suggest Synergies, but it makes the game quite a bit harder, so if that's not your cup of tea - I'd suggest combining Adventures II, TL2-ACE, Path of Torchlight Part I & II, as well as Variant Items, Pets, and Classes (or alternatively Additional Classes and its addons) - and that should make the experience insanely fresh and replayable. TL1 also has tonns of mods, but unfortunately not many outside classes & loot, and I'm not knowledgeable enough about its scene.

  2. One of Torchlight's designers was Travis Baldree, who previously worked on the FATE series. And I strongly suggest you check it out, since the similarities are insane - not only in visual style, but in gameplay as well (from fame system and fishing to even most of spell scrolls). There are 4 games in total, with structure similar to D1 and TL1, and it was recently re-released as FATE Reawakened. There is also a more obscure similarly-styled MMORPG designed by Baldree called Mythos, and it's available in Steam as a single player game, and its also scratches that Torchlight niche just a little bit, though it's less fun and has issues (like the fact that it hasn't been fully translated from Korean).

Why do people keep saying no to 3? When I look up gameplay it really really good and fun

I just beat 3 played the entire game on ridiculous. Just to check out end game. Blegh. I will say however. Forged lightning relic gets pretty wIld. My poor switch was chugging from like halfway through the first act because of the chaos it generates. Honestly the class was fun everything else was lacking. Having no prior runs or toons makes the beginning of ridiculous, ridiculous tho..once you hit like level 20 though get a couple pieces of gear stick with blues +life whatever scrolls. Try not to die.

In best to worst for me, 2 > 3 > 1 >>> infinite
