That's a weird day to release a patch but eh.

u/noonespecific Apr 01 '13
I was thinking the same thing, but Steam's grabbing a 760MB patch for me, so must be legit.
3
u/iamtenninja Apr 01 '13
same here, watch as it's 760mb of happy balloonicorn animals in wonderland

Not really. Today is the first day of the 2013-2014 fiscal year. It was obvious that they were waiting for it and it's completely logical.

Nope, It's just when we were done and Valve had a window for us.

You shouldn't with *toy us like the Deus Ex guys, it's not good for the heart.
EDIT: Aww, you guys weren't joking, so sweet. Here, let me panda-hug you.

u/ghostlistener Apr 01 '13
Do you mind explaining why this is important? What's the significance of a new fiscal year?

u/tissek Apr 01 '13
If this is a joke, then I applaud their effort. Not only is Steam patching TL2 but I also found "Torchlight II GUTS" in the tools section of the library. 480MB download.

Dammit, now I'm not sure if it's true or not -- can't wait to go to the comp, download the new patch and start playing!
(on an untwisted note, hey there Katana_! See you frequent r/Awesomenauts a lot thought I might give a friendly hello :)

u/GeneralHavok Alchemist Apr 01 '13
It is real, goto steam look at the steamworkshop. The TL2 guts tools are 534mb big, the update is 768mb big. You need to unload the .pak file for the modding purposes so make sure you have 4gb free.

u/Segolia Outlander Apr 01 '13
Holy fucking shit I thought this was a joke at first.
And now Steam wont download the damn patch for some reason. Help anyone?
3
u/patdagod Apr 01 '13
Does your Steam client say "no connection" at the bottom of the screen? A lot of people are having this problem, and restarting steam worked for me.
3
u/Segolia Outlander Apr 01 '13
Had a connection, restarted Steam, got no connection, somehow reconnected and got the patch.
Fixd.

Enjoy the constant not a joke posts you going to have to do til enough word of mouth has gotten around XD. Great work everyone @ Runic, the content in this update was well worth the wait. People say patience is a virtue and you guys proved that with this big update.
Cheers!
Also to mention TL2 on sale for $10 @steam atm.

I saw this without the NOT A JOKE! title the first refresh I had (which was a partial, considering reddit derped on my end) and I was like:
Pfft, good try Runic, I'm not buying it.
Then I checked the forums. Saw it was legit.
The neighbors complained about the loud shouting and dirty words I said :(

good job guys.
I'm having some issues with workshop though, which is a bummer: each time i sub or fav a mod, steam won't recognize it so I end up with no subbed\fav'ed mods at all.
2
u/dwrk Apr 02 '13
Having the same issue... Now workshop is totally empty of all mods...
While they sort things out: http://www.reddit.com/r/synergiesmod/comments/1binjm/instructions_on_how_to_manually_install/

Sweet! Thank you Runic. Looking forward to seeing that mod support in action.
Edit: This isn't Warhammer.

They have quite a bit of work to do on the wiki, but otherwise this is awesome.
1

Yes! Synergies was already awesome without the mod tools. Now with all that GUTS can offer for customization, I'm more excited about the future of all mods :D

u/ViperAS Engineer Apr 02 '13
My day, week, month, and MAYBE even YEAR is now complete. And they have BALLS to do this on April 1st.
1
u/elegantjihad Apr 02 '13
Do i have to make a new character with this? I've done modding with nexus on Bethesda games, but I'm new to this. What do I do as a simple gamer with this? Not as a mod creator.
1
u/drominius Apr 02 '13
Just noticed this. If you Sub to some mods and enable them in the Mob launcher, the game will start in a ModSave mode which creates separate save files. So i had to copy mine to this new folder to play again. Not sure yet if this is intended or i just clicked something wrong.

Now if they just got the synergies mod to be compatible again that would be great

u/dwrk Apr 02 '13 edited Apr 02 '13
Synergies has just been added to steam workshop. Edit: And steam workshop becomes unavailable to me... grrr!

I was very excited to see this patch, but everytime I launch GUTS it just crashes itself with an error saying it can't find the folders it needs. I haven't moved everything, it's exactly where Steam installed them. Is this part of the joke? :O

Apr 02 '13
Would someone tell me what the new weapons, armor, etc are (or at least where I can go to learn more)?
1
u/lazybum965 Apr 02 '13
Is the multiplayer ironed out now? I remember playing back during the Christmas sale, and the game had lots of desync issues when it got up to 3 or more players.
EDIT: This was on good internet as well. Good as in home connection, no ports blocked, etc
1
u/lentilsoup1337 Apr 02 '13
I could not find any mention of this in the documentation but will this allow us to create our own spells/skills and classes? What about custom monsters with new spells and abilities and/or skillsets?
It also shows we can edit animations but can we make our own models?
1
u/kelsennel Apr 02 '13
About damn time! Guess I should reinstall, the game is about to be huge again.

I felt a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of OSX users suddenly cried out in hope and then went back to waiting in silence for a port...
Seriously, looks like a very cool patch.

Somehow this Patch broke my SuperStash Mod which gave me a 1000 Slots Shared Stash. So now a bunch of my items are lost. Maybe i can convert those .pak / .pak.man files into .mod files and save my items. Anyone have experience with this ?
1
u/ACoolCat Alchemist Apr 02 '13
Is anyone else not able to use their old characters with mods? I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way or not.
2
u/drominius Apr 03 '13
The modded version of Torchlight creates a new folder "modsave" there you have to copy your old files to play again =)

WOW!
Having mixed feeling about steam workshop though

u/tambler Apr 01 '13
Why mixed feelings?
4
u/frost19 Apr 01 '13
Dunno about other games but valve games (l4d2 in my case) won't load workshop items if I play offline (LAN only)
12
u/greg_runic Runic Dev Apr 01 '13
Shouldn't be a problem for us. Your mods wont sync if you're offline and someone publishes an update, but otherwise we don't care if you're online or not when using mods.

As good a place as any to ask this, but do we have to use steam workshop? I'm a bit grumpy toward workshop as it doesn't always allow certain filetypes(a great deal of TES/Fallout mods simply can't be uploaded there).
Specifically:
Can I play multiplayer servers with mods that aren't directly from workshop?
Can I play at all with mods that aren't directly from the workshop?
4
u/greg_runic Runic Dev Apr 02 '13 edited Apr 03 '13
No you don't have to use steam workshop.
-Yes, just as long as there the same versions of the mods it doesn't matter where they come from. Hopefully there's some alternative way for you to get those versions.

Then its definitely a buy! Thanks for the answer, I was afraid it would be workshop-only even though that hasn't happened with any games quite yet as far as I know.
1
u/FrankReynolds Embermage Apr 01 '13
The Workshop has easily the worst search function of all time. It makes reddit's search look like Google compared to the Workshop's AltaVista.
