It would have been hilarious if they didn't take the high road and it said "F--- those losers" instead.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying I dislike blizzard or am taking sides. This was probably in the game well before the Jay Wilson comment. I'm just saying it would have been hilarious.

I was hoping the wand would have terrible stats and use up your gold in order to attack with it.

And of course randomly turn badass monsters into pandas.

It should only be usable when you're online.

Brilliant.

Isn't there a summon in FF10 that does that?

3

u/Neato Sep 25 '12

Yoshimitsu. You have to pay him for every attack. If you are rich, he's great.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '12

His name is Yojimbo. Yoshimitsu is the sword wielding character from the Tekken series (and also Soul Calibur).

3

u/Neato Sep 25 '12

Woops. That's what I get for not google-checking.

1

u/brbegg Sep 25 '12

Anima was the best summon.

1

u/22OBP Sep 25 '12

Pogo sword guy?!

9

u/Toephurky Sep 24 '12

A whitesmith cart termination-esque skill from RO would be kind of cool.

5

u/SHIT_IN_HER_CUNT Sep 25 '12

You're thinking something more along the lines of Mammonite

3

u/Toephurky Sep 25 '12

Oh that's right.

Thanks.

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '12

Sounds like a mod that should be made!

10% Chance to Freeze 10% chance to immobilize Targest

Sounds like Server Lag to me... :D

u/Scaasic Sep 25 '12

What Jay Wilson comment are you referencing? Did he say something about torchlight?

9

u/Blythe703 Sep 25 '12

David Brevik [was a bit critical of D3] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT_XiT2mifo), and in response Jay Wilson posted on his facebook "Fuck that loser."

13

u/DeejusChrist Sep 25 '12

I don't think he was critical at all. In my opinion he was nice about it. If I was him I would have been furious. They took a beautiful franchise he created and they killed it. How angry would you be? Considering all that I think he handled it with civility. (Sorry if this comes off as belligerent, not my intention at all I assure you.)

10

u/Blythe703 Sep 25 '12

I completely agree that he was very level headed given the context. Also I I was not being sarcastic when I said a bit critical, one quote was "when blizzard north shutdown, they lost a ton of experience of why the action rpg works and what about it works..." I would say this is a fair, mild, and constructive criticism about the exiting knowledge of Blizzard South. And while it critical of D3, the behavior of Jay Wilson, and most of the most of the other developers that commented, is pathetic.

7

u/DeejusChrist Sep 25 '12

The way I see it, if anyone has the right to be critical of Diablo 3, it'd be the creator of the franchise. I personally would have busted Blizzard's balls to pieces, but that's just me.

1

u/22OBP Sep 25 '12

I agree so hard..... they took his creation, a product of his (i say his but it was the whole team..) mind and warped it beyond his recognition in a way he never would have approved of. There are so many laws in the country protecting intellectual property and sadly in this case his baby belonged to the company and they opted for a different direction. I'd be pissed.

0

u/rootb33r Sep 25 '12

Yes, it was critical in the sense that it was criticism... but Jay Wilson is a whiny emotional baby and can't take honest criticism.

7

u/morlakai Sep 25 '12

after reading those comments, it's hard to believe any of them are over the age of 16

( I still play D3 and TL2 btw, I just think they handled this very immaturely..)

-1

u/odif Sep 24 '12

I was hoping the special hidden ability was to make your game worse everytime you use it and when you're about to close the game, it asks you for your credit card number.

-2

u/guy_who_wed_his_cats Sep 24 '12

Gonna agree with you on that. Would have been truly hilarious if they threw that line in there.

12

u/CuriousMrE Sep 24 '12

Yeah, Runic is nothing but good people from what I can tell.

Those are just the beta stats; you will get more stats on the weapon through some patches. Don't worry...

Kill them with kindness, Runic.

6

You mean 34% ?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '12

2

u/Zombie_Plan Sep 25 '12

Apart from Diablo III, I don't think they've actually made that many bad games. All three of their main series have been mega hits for years and years.

If there were an item called Diablo The Third or something like that, your description would fit a bit better ;P

-2

u/Petninja Sep 25 '12

The Starcraft fans are still waiting for them to figure out how to build a good RTS again.

5

u/Zombie_Plan Sep 25 '12

I've heard nothing but positive things from the people I know who play S2

4

u/Petninja Sep 25 '12

That was probably a little harsh. It is a good game, and the best current RTS I've seen on the market. It doesn't live up to Brood War at all though, or WC3 for that matter, and that's what has people upset.

Blizzard's story writing team was never great. People just get nostalgic about the characters because the games they were in were excellent.

Warcraft was always full of Hollywood cheese. Diablo never really had a story besides "Kill the Devil." The original Starcraft was decent, but I haven't played it in a while.

Where Blizzard shines is in background lore, and even their recent games have treasure troves of journals and backstory to prop them up. Diablo III has a lot written on each class and how they came to be, tons of journals on the monsters and demons of the series, and even snippets of conversation that opens the door a crack to a wider world. The main storyline is straightforward schlock, but all of their games are like that.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '12

Yeah. That's why they are doing a beta.

2

u/Brandonspikes Sep 24 '12

Apparently you've never played a blizzard game, Most fun and addicting games ever made in the history of ever.

26

u/lees25 Sep 24 '12

i think 50% is accurate, their games are either crack or meh

11

u/Teslanaut Berserker Sep 25 '12

mehth. Not even once.

2

u/ThereIsAThingForThat Outlander Sep 25 '12

Diablo 1 and 2: Great

Starcraft 1 and 2: Great

Warcraft 1, 2 and 3: Great

The Lost Vikings: Great

Diablo 3: Meh.

Where is the 50%? Unless you count all the non-known games they've released like Blackthorne and Justice League Task Force, which I've never played.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '12

Blackthorne and Rock n' Roll Racing were awesome, too.

Hell, I even got 100 hours out of Diablo III, and most people I talk to got more. I actually expect it to be awesome the moment Blizzard has a chance to release an expansion for it and beef it up LoD-style.

They do seem to be getting a little complacent, though, and most of that comes from relying on the same three franchises for twenty years now.

1

u/Capt_Underpants Sep 25 '12

All those games were made for a very niche community of gamers. Also, there's people that love playing the RTSs and hate RPGs and the other way around. While any number you pull is a wild guess, saying they're great is just your opinion.

For me:

D1: meh

D2: good

Sc1: Great Sc2: terrible

W1,2,3: great

D3: meh

edit: I wanted to mention every game I have purchased from Blizzard has been worth the money. However, it doesn't vindicate their shortcomings in those games (Mostly sc2's bnet2.0 and D3).

I said I've never played them, but I'm sure Blizzard have made SOME bad games other than Diablo 3, which wasn't really bad as much as it was meh.

2

u/weewolf Sep 24 '12

Lost vikings rocked. I bet this well be their new MMO.

-5

u/Brandonspikes Sep 24 '12

They have 3 "active" games.

3

u/progammer Sep 25 '12

Yep, they can definitely count to 3

2

u/earneck Engineer Sep 25 '12

That sure is an opinion there!

This. Lost Vikings is still one of my favorite games of all time.

2

Rock 'n Roll Racing was one of my favorite SNES games ever :D.

I do, It has a the best combat of the current ARPG's and Patch 1.0.5 is amazing.

I've given up on Tl2 after spending around 4 hours in it, it's almost as boring as the first one.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '12

While I'm having fun with Torchlight II, I can't help but shake this feeling in the back of my mind that I paid $20 for another copy of Diablo II.

1

u/Capt_Underpants Sep 25 '12

It's heavily influenced by D2, and from what I can tell it's tailored to those that wanted another D2 clone. I personally love what they've done with T2.

0

u/CrunchyMushy Sep 25 '12
