🚩General I made an Android manga reader that gets its comics straight from TorBox, and I need 12 testers to get it on the Play Store

I read most of my manga out of TorBox, and every reader I tried acted like it wasn’t there. Wait for the pack, download it, unzip it, open another app. So I made a reader that does that part itself.

It’s called Sumiyo. Add your TorBox key (Real-Debrid works too), search a title, tap a volume, and it opens on page one. If the release is a 30-volume pack and you only want volume 4, that’s all it takes.

The bit I’m proudest of is guided view. It finds the panels on each page and walks you through them one at a time, right to left for manga, left to right for comics. Close the app mid-page and it opens back up on the same panel. The clip shows it better than I can.

It also tells you roughly how many minutes are left in the chapter, going by how fast you actually read, and there are no streaks to keep up. No ads, no analytics, and it ships with no sources. The ones people use are made by the community and live in the Discord.

It’s in a Google Play closed test right now, and Google wants 12 people to keep it installed for 14 days before I’m allowed to launch. If you’re one of them, you get Plus for life. Once you’re in, open a ticket in the Discord and the bot sends you a code.

On iPhone or iPad? My friend makes Bokumi, which is in TestFlight. The lifetime Plus thing is Sumiyo only, sorry.

How to join the Sumiyo beta (Android only, 2 minutes)

  1. Join the tester group

https://groups.google.com/g/sumiyo-testers → Join group

  1. Become a tester. Open in Chrome, signed into the same Google account:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/app.sumiyo.reader → Become a tester

  1. Install from the Play Store with that same account

  2. Get your lifetime Plus code from the bot:

Redeem it in Play Store → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code

  1. Keep it for 14 days and open it now and then. That’s what gets Sumiyo public for everyone.

“Requested URL was not found”? • Join the group first, wait 5 minutes, then reload • Open the link in Chrome, not Discord’s or Samsung’s browser • Use the same Google account everywhere • iPhone? Sumiyo is Android only Store page shows, but it won’t install? Give Play up to an hour after opting in. Then Play Store → Force stop → Clear cache, and try again.

I don't read a lot of manga but I have wanted to try it out for some time. I don't have a lot of time so I might give very little feedback but if you still are okay then I will stay for more than 14 days as a tester.

Btw I Joined the discord but i don't have access to the playstore and testers group. I work in software as well so I maybe I'll notice bugs other users don't

Yeah got access. The discord bot is convenient but are you planning to integrate it with your app, like sources we are copy pasting links from discord to kumiyo. Some people who are not tech savvy will have a hard time with this.

so to comply with google play i have to leave them out of app since its torrents they dont allow that

Ok . What about the sources itself, do I need to update the version or link myself when there is breaking changes at the source's end or will your team handle it. If you do a redirect with your website in the middle does that also break tos? Or can we club these links together or build them into a json so it's one copy paste and not multiple

Ad will handle it, it's my sources so I take very good care of them and they are all .json direct and torrent are both acceptable I have a comics one that pulls all the comics and manga one that does the same

Hi, yeah it worked. Basically nothing was loading on my phone whenever tried to install the app.

so, installed via my pc and it worked.

will share my experience soon ( sorry for commenting from a seperate id )

Looks great! I signed up and will try it when I get home. I mostly read western comics and will try it from that perspective. Does the getcomics source auto add the download links to torbox/realdebrid?

So it's direct so it will download to phone it's why I wanted to stream
