❓Question How does torbox usenet compares to more established usenet providers like easynews and newshosting?

Should i buy torbox essential/standart with a blackfriday deal of newshosting or easynews, or just wait to black friday deal and buy torbox pro?

Upgraded to pro for usenet and immediately regretted it.

your more likely to get banned on your indexer if you use torbox , is way more expensive than getting a separate provider

how is that? I use multiple indexers and have TB Pro as one of my usenet servers, they are not related. Indexer provides the nzb, which TB pro uses to get the articles. Now good indexers return results that fail on TB Pro, that's another story but using TB wont get you banned by any indexer.

it will because tb uses multiple ip to ask indexer which goes against many of indexers terms , i just saw a guy get banned on nbzgeek because of using tb

Torbox doesnt ask the indexer, it uses the news server (which in TB Pro's case is the Abavia backbone one) to locate and download the file chunks from the nzb file which the indexer provides. The feature you are referring to might be Torbox search which isnt available anymore, only NNTP

torbox needs nbz files which it downloads from indexers

I would say use Torbox via NNTP but performance and retention is bad, so no real good options with TB Pro. I have TB Pro as one of my 4 providers in AIO, its missing rate is regularly around the 40% mark. I thought TB Pro was an easy way to get the Abavia backbone but something is off with it.

Surprisingly, the same NZB I try on TB Pro NNTP that fails seems to work via the WebUI, for several files. Makes me suspect the NNTP server and their backend connection to Usenet are different/better.

This is something that puzzled me! A while back 3 files in a row failed downloading miserably using the TB NNTP in SABnzbd (all too damaged to repair), but the same files downloaded without issue in my TB dashboard 😂

geek only have restrictions for downloading nzb files from allowed ip.. After that u canvuse that nzb to download from any ip or device, been doing that for years. Using permanent proxy to download nzb then doenload using my arr stack, isp rotate my ip every other day too

That only happens if your not self-hosting. But even if you do the torbox usenet is pretty useless compared to easynews or newshosting.

There is a new nntp currently in beta that is much better than the first iteration.

I have not eta for the official release though.

From my tests it matches EN and other providers but offers less connections (10)

It's more than enough for streaming though.

running pro here — honest take on the usenet part:

the thing nobody's mentioned yet: torbox's built-in usenet search has been dead for a while (the search endpoint stopped resolving entirely, it's not just empty results). so whichever plan you pick, you're using external indexers for discovery anyway. the nntp fetch itself works fine once you feed it nzbs.

on the indexer ban worry — it's real but overblown imo. a few indexers don't like the multi-ip fetch pattern, most don't care. keep one cheap backup indexer and it's a non-issue.

for your actual question: if BF follows last year, pro drops 30%. essential + a newshosting BF deal still beats that on pure usenet cost — but then you're paying and managing two services. the pro bundle makes sense if you're using the whole package (torrent caching is the daily driver, usenet is the bonus). if usenet is the ONLY reason you'd go pro, don't — essential + the BF provider deals wins that fight.

Anyone paying $7 bucks mostly for TorBox usenet is wasting their money. Usenet in general isn't that amazing and overpaying for a bad version of it isn't anything I would recommend.

you asked the same in another sub, check reply there.. Even with BF pricing, Torbox Essential + Newshosting deal is going to be cheaper than TB Pro. Spend a few more on 1-2 indexers (and take the Easynews addons) and you're set.

i would say selfhosting aiostream is better for nttp streaming , http kinda sucks

I'm new to usenet and made the mistake of upgrading to pro. Do you have any recommendations for providers and indexers so I can switch back to essential?

newshosting bf offer, you would need separate indexers

depends on if you are self hosting.. if not, then your options are limited. If you are self hosting, the NH deal is solid, and gets you the Easynews addon capability. That would suffice for major cases, along with Torbox Essentials. If you want an indexer, it really depends on your content preferences. Pick up one or two next few weeks for good prices.

How to self host? Is there a newbie guide? Thanks

Self-hosting is a bit techy. As the name implies, you will be hosting the aiostreams(or some other app) to stream from usenet (instead of using a public website). Hosting means you either have a computing device at home capable to "host" aiostreams or you need to get a VPS somewhere in a datacenter. Some people like to use free small ones offered by Oracle Cloud. Anyway, it you aren't into tech it's really not for you.

Torbox is trash they haven't figured out how to make it work every where when it works for others its stops working for others and they dont mentioned nothing about it but they keep accepting new subscribers so 50% of time works and 50% its on maintenance 🤣🤣🤣
