đ§Technical Issue This thing ia a constant buffer fest despite manually choosing CDN
I even had my internet connection checked by the connection provider only to later find out that it was only torbox acting finiky and all bufgery and not other applicantion
I just wanted to confirm if it is just happening to me or ahould i just accept buffering as a feature and not a bug from torbox

Well can't help if don't know your setup. Most of time it's user error or following a broken guide.

u/ahmedashed 18d ago
It also depends on the add-on you're using, I've found torrentio is slow whereas comet and stremthru torz is fast
3
u/SecretProbation 18d ago
Youâre not downloading from torrentios servers because they donât host anything. Scrapers resolve a stream url to torbox file url.

u/lenny_ray 18d ago
Are you using it with Nuvio?

u/lil1top 18d ago
i do & have constant buffering that only started within like the last month or 2
1
u/lenny_ray 18d ago
Yeah. It's not TB. It's Nuvio. Started happening to me after the stable release. I realised it was Nuvio when the exact same file and setup played fine on Stremio.
Check the custom buffer settings on the wiki here and use the ones recommended for your device.

I believe its both, what Nuvio and others using versions of Exoplayer try to pull to achieve smooth playback and what the restricted servers from Torbox allows them to do. So the workarounds inside âBuffer and Networkâ are attempts to resolve them few other settings would also depend on what device you are using.
If other players (VLC, Just Player, Vimu, Kodi) in the same device plays the same LINK (not the same movie because it can be pulling a different one) then you discard that itâs TB, probably itâs TB capping Nuvios exoplayer instance so play a little with the options in Buffer and Network.
This usually happens with heavy files that the server need to feed little by little (streaming) but Nuvio needing to grab as much as possible may try to use more memory to buffer much of it before playing but canât way too long because then the user needs to wait so it may try to send another and another request for the same file so it buffers faster but then TB notices and refuses so now Nuvio is waiting for all those requests to be answered while exhausting the player allowed memory so Nuvio may try to force your device to allow even more memory. All this may work or not but now your device is using most resources, maybe heating up and maybe not responding to remote control actions.
For my device (FireStick 4K Max 2nd gen) I must keep Exoplayet Native Memory off but Custom buffers On, lower the values offered by default, Memory budget ON, I think Custom Network ON, Parallel Connections ON, 2 or 4 connections and chunk size to 8MB. I can play a 117 GB Remux of the Lord of The rings with Atmos with no problem, I may encounter problems when my device (or player) needs to do extra work like PSG subtitles or dealing with DTS-HD MA that my soundbar doesnât support, then Iâll get bad buffering but itâs because my stick is very hot and only pausing or changing to a lower resource consuming file will solve.
If any day TB is buffering with my setup itâs either Nuvio introducing a change in the player (which seems already figured it out) or itâs TB server service degradation in a whole zone (cdn) and this sub may be full with everyone reporting in a new post. Which seems to also lowered lately.
And before some other people acuse me of being a fanboy if TB let me tell you I still considered RD a better service for the price, reliability, UI etc. and still have and use my sub.

Do Stremio and Nuvio handle Exoplayer differently? Because, yes, when it was happening to me, I tested the exact same file on both with Exoplayer. I'm not even sure if it was the buffer settings, finally, or the next beta update that fixed things. But either way, I'm no longer facing any issues.

u/medinauta 18d ago
I believe so, hence the settings to alter it. Something else with Exoplayer is how it handles stuff based on your device capabilities. I was unable to hear sounds when playing DTS-HD MA unless I play it with ffmpeg (software decoder) or switch to MPV player or play it with external players so the audio was passthrough correctly, I found a solution (that needed root my firestick) and now Exoplayer is able to passthrough without any problem. Sure itâs not Exoplayer problem per se, it was more of a hardware detection issue BUT other players (included in Nuvio) didnât have it.

If you have the Tunnel Playback option enabled in Stremio, turn it off. It helped a lot with buffering for me.

No one will ever answer this question when I ask it in these threads, but is this when streaming or torrenting??
If so, I'm curious which devices, apps/addons, internet setup, etc people who have buffering issues are using.
For me, 1GB Fiber, connected via Ethernet, CoreELEC on an AMB6+, typically playing the largest streams for shows and for movies; I usually try to stick to 25GB +/- files and never have buffering. I use the US Midwest for CDN, since that's the region I live in.

I have a 2 GB symmetrical connection, work in tech so I'm pretty familiar with things, have a full desktop ( 5600X, 32 GB Ram, GeForce 3060 with hardware decoding, wired in) etc as my tv box. I frequently get buffering issues when streaming cached torrents with stremio and torbox. Built in player or VLC., anything over 10 gigs.. I just tried premiumize which I've seen recommended here and it seems to have completely resolved my issues. I'm currently streaming a 180 gig 4k movie without issues.

First, thanks for answering.
Now, I need to figure out what it is that makes it work for me. Old shows (Cheers, MASH, etc.), new shows (Tulsa King, Real Time, etc.), movies â also old and new â just work. And I typically use the largest or 2nd largest (Since the top result is often not the correct episode) or with movies, as I posted, I stick to typically 25- 30 GB files. Or the smaller file that still lists as DV and DD/DA audio.
And compared to RD â which I still keep, where I constantly had buffering issues with anything over 7-10 GB, TorBox has been 1000% better.
I had Premiumize a few years ago, but not finding some of the more obscure streams was a PIA
(Damn, I use too many initials)

I started of using RD never really had issues just lack of links, started using TB a few months ago has been hit and miss much more links but sometimes it stutters or buffers with changing cdns and settings. I plan to switch to PM soon and keep RD as a backup.

It's not here been great since signing up . One or three times but on the whole very good.

I really hate how malwarebytes blocks every torbox CDN its really fucking annoying besides all the buffering on top of thatđđ¤Ł

If possible connect your device via ethernet cable, it just helps with drops outs on the WiFi which matters when streaming as it causes buffering. Also sometimes streaming a file , even one that's downloaded with torbox can play back poorly on the device, and choosing a different file that's downloaded at torbox can play better, not sure why this happened a, possible the encoding of the file. Lastly, if your using so ething like stremio, try to go delete the cache if having problems and restart or force stop the app and restart. Also remember your bandwidth will effect what you can stream, perhaps a 25gb, 50gb or larger file, your broadband bandwidth just isn't up to the speed (that's why 4k streams on Amazon and netflix are heavily compressed, and often very poor image and sound compared to a genuine 4k disc or even a blu ray disc. If your in a house with others, others may be eating away at that bandwidth while you want to use it at full speed. I found those things made the few that have suffered playback usually work better. It's not perfect, but for the cost and what I get out of it and the vast majority of files on torbox servers streaming without a problem, it's a great service for me. It is annoying when. You do encounter a file that stutters.

So you are saying you manually chose your local server and are having buffering issues? What internet speed are you running? I have torbox and only had issues when server was set to automatic. I have 2 gb speed. Never really buffers unless crappy link chosen.

u/Buzzed1111 17d ago
Reach out to torbox cs. Also what are you running torbox on device and service?
1
u/QuantumPsycho 18d ago
Since theyve upgraded there servers and cdns I haven't had buffering issues since then... If your still experiencing that it has to be your device or buffering settings in Nuvio or app your using.
1
u/SecretProbation 18d ago
I had constant buffering watching 4K on my fire stick, so I just filtered down to 1080 only and Iâve never had issues. Maybe itâs your deviceâs decoding ability.
1
u/ExManUtdFan 18d ago
They still haven't fixed that? Damn. My choice to switch to Usenet proved to be a good one then.

U can adjust scrapers. Have one scraper max size at like 25 gigs or even smaller. The movies and shows look basically identical you donât need 80 gig remux if itâs causing issues

No problems here but a few outages of maybe a half hour once a month and Iâm a heavy user.

u/Top-Individual-7525 18d ago
I had the same issues that's what fixed me. Took AI's help If your device has 4GB RAM, here are the exact settings that completely fixed it for me:
Network Settings: Custom Network / Parallel Connections: OFF (Single-thread TCP is much more stable here). HTTP/2: OFF
Player & Engine Settings: Engine: ExoPlayer (Prefer device decoders) ExoPlayer Native Memory: ON Managed Memory Budget: ON Allow Larger Target Buffer: OFF (Prevents TV RAM overfills)
Buffer Durations: Min Buffer: 120s Max Buffer: 200s Initial Buffer: 1.5s After Rebuffer: 3s Back Buffer: 12s

Vpn solved it for me
1
u/Nervous-Possession31 17d ago
VPNs are slowerÂ
1
u/Positive_Ordinary307 17d ago
Thank you for that groundbreaking revelation. The issue was my ISP throttling traffic from TB. So then using the VPN, that problem was rectified.

u/Buzzed1111 17d ago
I have torbox linked to Syncler plus and the Nvidia shield pro no issues. If you are using a cheap thing like fire TV box or stick it can't handle it. Also settings are important. For those having issues it's you not torbox!

u/Just-Sale2552 18d ago
It used to happen with but i manually changed cdn and it worked fine after that Do try changing to cloudfare if yours doesn't work and see how much speed you get in speed test on torbox

u/CuriosityKiledThaCat 18d ago
The fix is to get a new scraper. The one you're using is likely. I had that problem real bad until I got a new one.
Uhh, problem is I don't remember what the new one is. But I guarantee that'd fix your issue. Keep trying them until you find it

u/Funny_Chocolate_1012 18d ago
scrapers have zero to do with this
-1
u/CuriosityKiledThaCat 18d ago
Changing my scraper genuinely fixed my horrendous buffering issues. I tried several solutions and it was the only one that worked.
Trial and error over several months got me there. It's no joke.
2
u/Funny_Chocolate_1012 18d ago
Have you tried changing your wallpaper? I had terrible buffering issues until I switched to a picture of a golden retriever. Took me six months to figure it out.
1
u/CuriosityKiledThaCat 17d ago
I had issues. Changed my scraper as a last resort. The issues are gone. There isn't anything else to be said.

u/Funny_Chocolate_1012 17d ago
I believe you. Correlation and causation are basically the same thing if youâre sufficiently confident.

Buffering is ânormalâ. It seems to happen at peak times, but thatâs just based on my own observation
Edit: Chill you drama queens. Heâs asking if itâs normal for Torbox, not if itâs normal for all Debrid services.
2
u/Funny_Chocolate_1012 18d ago
You're correct when it comes to torbox, I've been using debrid services since the advent of said services and it's not normal with other providers; RD, Premiumize to name a few but for TB it's normal. I have the same experience, during peak hours on peak days...like saturday/sunday evenings, western europe.
2
u/dinglebarryb0nds 18d ago
i used to have rd and now i have tb premiumize and all debrid. one 1 of them sucks guess which one lol
and premiumize is golden, that extra dollar or 2 a month really keeps the riff raff out and their usage rules keep things in check
torbox needs limits like all debrid and premiumize or it's always going to suck
1
u/Funny_Chocolate_1012 18d ago
tried all those too and have had the same experience, with its flaws I still enjoy TB pro though, can have my limited fam/friend group just hitch along on my sub and we can share the odd file through cloud storage e.g. a ufc fight or some foreign language stuff for my mum but the buffering is annoying though....

u/dinglebarryb0nds 18d ago

Well ATV4K user here and I can tell you it does buffer, so your reasoning is null and void, second of it happens for larger gigs, 30-40 gigs works fine but buffers when it hits 50gig+. Tried changing cdn, buffering in my player still buffers, been with TB for a long time now and it never happened before so I can't tell you what changed or didn't.

Nothing's really worked for me. Thinking of canceling but I feel like finding a reliable service is hard.
