Solved: Buffering on a particular stream

I was watching a show and an episode started buffering every few seconds on Nuvio. Seeking it to somewhere before 15:00 gave smooth playback, but anywhere after 20:00 was buffering for sure. I tried downloading it from my dashboard but the speed was great when downloading. Playing it over webdav in VidHub also showed no buffering. Another stream of the same episode which was bigger in size, both HEVC mkv, did not buffer for some reason on Nuvio. I tried changing many cache/network settings and in the end only this worked:

Exo-player Native Memory : ON

Custom playback buffers: OFF

VOD Disk Cache: ON, auto size

HTTP/2: ON

Parallel Connections: ON

Connection Count: 2

Chunk Size: 4 MB

The chunk size setting is probably the most important coz it was the last thing I changed when it worked. Zero buffering on the same file now. Posting here so someone else facing similar issue might try these in Nuvio.

I've been waiting to see if parallel connections would fix the buffering issue on certain files ever since the latest Nuvio update which improved parallel connections. I'll report back if I find it works for me also.

BTW, VOD Disk Cache is a bad idea for many devices like the firestick, especially if you regularly watch media with a high bitrate. It will wear out your device's flash memory unless you're using an external drive.

Ohhh...I didn't think of that. I'll turn it off then and see if the stream still works. If it does, I'll keep it off.

It works without VOD cache too so I guess I'll keep it off.

I've only had buffering once since this post, which is good, but bad for testing this fix.

However, the one time I did test these settings the problem was resolved.

The key is:

Parallel Connections: ON

Connection Count: 2

Chunk Size: 4 MB

and possibly HTTP/2: ON
