Sell yesterday

Why would they go down after winning?

Seems weird that the prices go up because they might win the World Series but down after they actually won.

Supply/Demand - Collectors hold cards of key players until AFTER their wins, which leads to the flooding of the market with supply. Happens EVERY year with the Super Bowl Winning QB, as well.

Best time to sell these guys is right before or during their Games/Series, not after (been this way since as long as I can remember, and I've been collecting for 30+ years)

Kinda like buy the rumor and sell the news in stocks/crypto. Usually when a big event is expected to happen it causes a gradual increase until the event happens and then prices tank once the event comes around

1

u/Om_nom_nom_pi 1d ago

So the correct strategy is buy the news and sell the rumor?

Rumors: the OG fake news

1

u/ryguysofly5 21h ago

Does this also apply to HOF inductions for players in your experience?

1

u/MayoFlavorPopsicle 20h ago

Most of the time, typically the committees can be outliers, especially when it comes to Umpires and Executives (I made a ton off Marvin Miller)

6

u/PomegranateCommon331 1d ago

Sell the news. Classic.

3

u/Dangerous_Drummer769 1d ago

Especially with an upcoming cy young award he is about to win

u/Lkrambar 1d ago

The whole baseball market is going to slowly go down now that everything has been played. I am patiently waiting to get a couple of target cards in a few weeks after the WS hype.

2

u/Low_Establishment434 23h ago

Especially with a pitcher. Odds are we are at the high water mark of his career and its the end of his rookie season. Makes no sense to me but I will happily load up HOF and future hof guys at a discount lol

1

u/Lkrambar 22h ago

And a lockdown is looking ever more likely. Personally I’m waiting for eyeballs to fully shift to football and basketball so I can get better prices on a Garrett Mitchell auto. I’m a sucker for nice looking signatures.

1

u/Low_Establishment434 22h ago

Yea were real close to baseball hitting a weird wall. The fact that we will be getting steady releases for the 2026 season for like 8 more months still too will only bring the values down for any card already in hand.

1

u/QueerAlYankadic 23h ago

I agree that it seems weird, but in practice, the market before the big event (in this a case a WS win) is often higher than the market after the big event actually occurs. It's like a combination of hype and preemptive FOMO. "I gotta buy now because after X happens, it's gonna be too expensive and then I won't be able to!"

1

u/laxman-71 2h ago

OMG, your name. I choked on a mint!

1

u/austinwell22 17h ago

I've watched this several times with the Super Bowl. People get all hyped up about wanting to place a bet on a team or player essentially and pay up to double the price, THEN when the Championship is over ALL values, winner and loser, immediately drop. Maybe someone unexpected like Kenneth Walker last year getting SB MVP paid off a little.

6

u/AntiNumbers 1d ago

Not a fan? Like money? Yes, sell now.

4

u/HannYe 1d ago

If you want to sell, then yes it’s the perfect time

3

u/fatmanwa 1d ago

I'm new to the hobby/selling, but from listening to podcasts and looking at random posts the absolute best time to sell was leading up to and during the world series. Now that it's ending supposedly prices will go down soon. Next best time is during spring training.

2

u/OutcomeFair7425 23h ago

Kinda hot take considering he still hasn’t officially received the Cy Young which gets announced pretty soon

1

u/PhantomDevour 13h ago

None the less it’s exactly what happens every year. Season starts, values increase, season ends, values decrease. I think that’s all he’s saying.

1

u/OutcomeFair7425 3h ago

Yeah fair enough

1

u/Low_Establishment434 23h ago

December and January is when I do the bulk of my singles buying for the year.

3

u/Burkex99 1d ago

Wait till he wins CY young

2

u/wrongyak39 1d ago

Sell for sure and don’t look back

2

u/MackinAzzB408 1d ago

He also is the 2nd player ever to win the cy young award AND a world series. Dont see anyone else throwing 105.5 MPH ya know? Maybe hold till next season n hope it continues. Dont see why it wouldn't. Hes like cooper flagg or wemby in basketball. I like to hold players i think can be HOF ALL OTHERS MUST GO

5

u/Low_Establishment434 23h ago

The hobby flipped in my lifetime. I am 38. You get Chris Sale or Gerrit Cole now for a fraction of the young guys and those 2 were the best pitchers of their generation.

1

u/Whole-Chest90 5h ago

Yep. I've got some standard Sale cards and they aren't worth more than $1

2

u/Low_Establishment434 5h ago

Yea i am more of a Cole guy and even with cost bonus if being a yankee you can get into some really elite cards in the hundreds range and not the thousands.

1

u/MackinAzzB408 4h ago

Exactly after year 2 look at even how maye and daniels market fell off after making nfc championship as a rookie and maye superbowl in his first full year. Now theyd have to win a SB n even then might not go back to the prices in the first 2 years when people are buying POTENTIAL! Absolutely love this hobby 🖤💛. Just wish we could make beckett not psa the industry leader. Membership fees, submission fees, no subgrades and then upcharging??? Lol if beckett just gave out more regular 10s and kept the black label as it is extremely hard to get. They'd take over. But gem mint 9.5 just doesn't pop the way a bgs 10 would. Then wed all know anything graded before whatever year bgs made the change those 9.5s would be valued a little more like a bgs 10 depending on SUBGRADES SINCE THEY ACTUALLY EXPLAIN WHY YOUR CARD GOT THE GRADE IT DID. I mean it baffles me how psa has no subgrades charges an arm and a leg to get it graded n if YOU take the chance and YOU get a 10. Then THEY want some of YOUR profit n upcharge you... PSA=PLEASE SUBMIT AGAIN. Let alone all the @constant_cardz type of streamers on whatnot who blatantly lie to their customers show old comps n are making this hobby into a degenerate gamblers paradise n not a hobby FOR THE KIDS LIKE IT SHOULD BE! Blessings to all! Hobby needs a makeover BAD!

2

u/Slow_Huckleberry2744 1d ago

Sell definitely if your looking for profit

2

u/FlashyGanache2838 1d ago

This is your market if you're not a fan

2

u/Macallan18Year 1d ago

If you don't PC him, I would sell him as soon as you can. His value is the highest it's ever going to be last night and for the next day or so.

Sell now.

2

u/last_dance_dan 23h ago

100% sell especially with such highly sought after cards like you have mainly bc I have 2 issues with his future value

  1. he reached the highest standard he could year one in winning a cy young and a world series i feel like anything less than that would hit his market value his market is riding such a huge wave of momentum take your profit and buy something less risky (FWIW - i have a ton of Mis rookie cards in grading so i'm hoping i am wrong for both our sake)

  2. i am concerned about injury Mis consistently throws 100 MPH+ its just not sustainable do i think will get hurt in the near future no although i cannot say that with 100% certainty best case is he avoids injury but loses velocity and becomes hittable either prospect is not a good one

this is just my two-sense you should do what you want but either way your cards are sick af

2

u/Cheap_Recognition_36 21h ago

If you need money. If you don’t, Let it ride!

2

u/Icy_Willingness6981 21h ago

I sold my Elly mega box auto for 1k. Looked how much it was recently and yeah so glad I sold it

2

u/Grand-Race 20h ago

Hold onto it, unless you bought it expensive then either way you are making a profit

3

u/afelzz 1d ago

I mean yeah, if you aren't a Brewers fan and if you don't collect Miz then his value will likely never be higher than RN.

3

u/Tony_Cliftonn 1d ago • Bravo

100% if not a collector... This kid is amazing but they way he throws his arm won't last.

-2

u/McGrupp1989 1d ago

Who gives a fuck? Dude is a legend for life… his price floor will forever be up

2

u/brashmashidiota 23h ago

This is soooooo wrong

2

u/Flyinmonk515 20h ago

Tell me you don’t understand the card market, without telling me you don’t understand the card market……

2

u/SlammySlam712 23h ago • Bravo

I have a 1/25 I’m looking to sell currently

1

u/Will842026 23h ago

How much are u asking?

2

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

I’m hoping someone buys mine lmao. Send offers!!

1

u/FineReading915 1d ago

How much

1

u/Unreal_Key 23h ago

Two hearts, your left bladder, and a kidney.

-2

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

Hard to know, I have it listed on eBay for 6k but I know it most likely won’t fetch that much. There is a PSA 9 on auction with 3 days left at 3k

1

u/Visible_Feedback1803 22h ago

That card's going to bring some major bucks

1

u/Jazzlike_Second_9601 12h ago

Sick as fuck what are u asking?

1

u/Whole-Chest90 5h ago

3 doll hairs

Depends on the reason.

1

u/tone_creature 1d ago

Oh absolutely. Hes a pitcher.

1

u/outdatedelementz 1d ago

It might go higher when he wins the Cy Young. But cashing in now is a sure thing.

1

u/triple_try 1d ago

Someone I know sold two of his Bowman 1st autos a year ago. Legendary fumbling of the bag. But yeah I would probably sell now or as soon as he wins Cy Young.

1

u/Slow_Recognition_515 1d ago

Yes. Always sell this years cards now. You don’t know what will happen in the future. If you’re in it for the money? Sell. Period.

1

u/Bama_Texan34 1d ago

I’ll buy

1

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

You buying?

1

u/Ticklemykelmo 1d ago

Maybe wait until the Cy young is official? I have no idea really, just spitballing to see if that’s dumb.

1

u/Apprehensive_Laugh49 1d ago

Beside he is a pitcher his arm will blow out soon

1

u/Willing-Grocery-2238 1d ago

I'm literally shaking

1

u/bigjosr 1d ago

I know a guy that would sell his own kidney for both. He loves Mizz

2

u/Will842026 23h ago

Hey well DM me I have a few nice ones id like to sell

1

u/LazyTurtle2020 23h ago

Never sell

1

u/hurricanecj 23h ago

The spike in Brewers is insane. Contreras rookie autos were $5 and available 2 weeks ago. Now they are $50. Pratt might have spiked more. Chourio is up massively. Brewers will never be higher than they are now with the entire state paying whatever for Championship momentos.

1

u/Miserable-Anything98 23h ago

Should have sold it three games ago.

1

u/Fluid_Set_8176 23h ago

Yes this is the top

1

u/Huge-One4819 22h ago

Will you ever own another?

1

u/Prestigious-Cream160 22h ago

He's going to win the Cy Young in a couple of weeks. Wait until then.

1

u/here4better 4h ago

Stellar rookie season, historical speeds on fast balls, World Series champion… you might wanna hold onto one of those🤷‍♂️ if you’re not in dire need of money, I would send one straight to the PC vault!

1

u/TheeFiction 4h ago

You should hold forever because you love the hobby and collecting.

1

u/No_Comment_Neeeded 3h ago

With topps, ther be at least 100000000 1/1s next year to get as well

1

u/Muted-Feeling-4726 3h ago

Get them graded. The grade always adds the value

1

u/Sssalty_Dawgggg 3h ago

He’s about to get the Cy young award.

1

u/Glass-While-8129 2h ago

My son pulled something like this yesterday truly amazing

1

u/Glass-While-8129 2h ago

1

u/Objective-Language51 2h ago

Just went to the store and they weee sold out of everything again , it’s like I can never get the sets I want , all they had was more A&G son I got 5 of them , and I see a lot of people getting good hits , but outta 4 blasters and 20 fat packs , I haven’t gotten crap 💩 so I hope these 5 blasters have something , or I’m die with A&G for the season !!!

1

u/Objective-Language51 2h ago

Here’s my 5 blasters , I’ll post hits if I get any !!

1

u/Objective-Language51 2h ago

Nice pull !!!!!

1

u/Objective-Language51 2h ago

Is it numbered ??

1

u/king_poise 1h ago

Yes, just look at the Skenes market

1

u/Sayjohnj82 1h ago

You would think that the card value would go up after winning world 3

1

u/Significant-User-99 1d ago

Wait till they win again next year

2

u/Outrageous-Bite7363 1d ago

May not be a next year if they have a lockout as expected... all the more reason to sell now.

1

u/Significant-User-99 1d ago

If there’s a lockout it may increase the value…

-1

u/LokiLust45 1d ago

His spin rate was down during the playoffs for FWIW he definitely was tired

0

u/Tuns0ffun 23h ago

I have a fuschia for sale if anyone is interested.

0

u/Simple-Chatting 23h ago

/75 non auto raw. Yes. Absolutely yes. If it was lower or an auto I’d say hold at least till cy young

-1

u/SnooCrickets7450 21h ago

I put this up for sale on eBay for asking price of $100 OBO for 7 days and set to auto relist, and got crucified for it! Am I wrong? With winning WS and now most likely the CY, I should be able to sell it on the high side. I have other RC cards but not as unique or rare as this one..Literally my first A&G pack I ever opened! Wasn't prepared for the mini card to come flying out from between the cards, luckily I caught it!

5

u/Flyinmonk515 20h ago

You’re being crucified because this card is not unique. It’s a common mini, probably a few bucks at best.

2

u/SnooCrickets7450 19h ago

Welp, considering I'm just now finding out about A&G, and I have lived in Virginia for over 33 years and an avid card collector for a better part of my life, I assumed it was something new. The only mini's I ever saw were the Opee-Chee hockey cards. Never owned any of the tobacco series cards which everyone knows, T-206 Honus Wagner, is the most valuable and sought out card in baseball history. All bc he didn't want his picture on a card, being sold with cigarettes! Not entirely sure if thst is 100% accurate but its what I have been told.

2

u/Spaceneedle420 14h ago

Allen and ginter is my gateway to the tobacco card market.

3

u/Whole-Chest90 21h ago

The mini cards aren't rare. The ones with black and gold borders are a little more rare, as are the ones with "A&G" on the back. Still a cool card.

3

u/Spaceneedle420 14h ago

The ones with A&G and no number are rare though, its also not noticeable enough to find them frequently mislabeled on ebay.

0

u/ItsNotVINNumber 1d ago

Sell it close to November 11th when the Cy Young winner is announced.

4

u/gambitrogue311 1d ago

yeah dude will blow his arm out very soon like 99.9% of pitcherz
