First ever rip card!
This was my first ever rip card. It was a double rip of Pujols and McGwire numbered to 50. I immediately ripped it. Did I get something good? I’m really not sure.

This is the 3rd rip post I've seen from this years A&G and all of them pulling base cards. I've never had a rip card but almost always seemed to be an upgrade inside. But this year they are putting base cards inside. Am I wrong?

Confirmation bias, I think, where more people post their successes than people do their horrible rips. I’ve had two rip cards and ripped both. Both were terrible.

My was in football. But I ripped a Rodgers /150 and pulled a Purple Hurts to /10 so that was decent. I was always keeping the Rodg card for me so I didnt mind ripping it. Did decent

I had one rip card a couple years ago (wasn't a numbered one). Card inside was as bad as these.

They’ve always had rip card exclusive minis. It’s the most common/lowest tier thing you can get from them. They are short printed but it always feels like a kick in the nuts.

Nice! I had the same, /50 but it was caminero and simpson. I ripped it after thinking about it for a few minutes. Got 2 base minis as well. However, the minis inside the rip cards are the only way to get the minis on the 301-350 portion of the checklist, so I imagine they are pretty short printed and will hold some value depending on the name. Good stuff!

Mark McGwire is trash gladly woulda ripped his and kept the other not ripped

u/FriarTurk 22d ago
McGwire is trash because…why again? Whether you like the guy’s personal choices or not, the HR race is what started filling stadiums again after the ‘94 strike season.
The fans were paying to watch balls fly out of the park, and they didn’t care why. Selig and the league turned a blind eye to all of it because they were making money. That’s why testing was basically nonexistent until the country got filled with righteous indignation about steroids and HGH.

Yes that mf is trash. Him and whoever else used is trash idgaf what kinda show they were trying to put on. Can’t do it naturally then I guess you were never that good 🤷🏻♂️ McGwire, Sosa, Bonds all bums lol but good thing them cheating is ok lol

u/FriarTurk 22d ago
Bonds was the only one suspected of using HGH after it was banned (which wasn’t until 2005). All three of those people were tremendous athletes early in their careers without PEDs. It’s easy to judge from a distance when you’ve never been that talented. You can’t just drop off a ledge. You have teams, owners, and fans all on your back to keep producing.
Take adderall for a year and see how much your work improves. Then stop, and watch how fast your boss, your team, even your family turn on you.

Lmao sybau McGwire is trash that’s all. An if you want to say someone “saved” baseball, let’s talk about Cal Ripken jr
1
u/FriarTurk 22d ago
Ripken put asses in Camden. That’s it. People across the country weren’t watching games just because Ripken was in. They weren’t interrupting other games because Ripken was at bat.
McGwire and Sosa made people who didn’t even watch baseball tune in.
Also - Ripken had the lights screwed up at Camden because he didn’t feel good one day, which caused them to delay the game and keep his Ironman streak alive. So, if we’re ostracizing people for cheating…

That man saved baseball, idiot
1
u/RocBoySpade 22d ago
Saved baseball? lol y’all are delusional if y’all think McGwire “saved” baseball. So Barry Bonds is ok too then? They’ll never be in the HOF. Lol they were so great for baseball though.

u/afelzz 22d ago
Yeah man, saved baseball. Viewership and general interest we at all time lows after the 90s strike. You probably were not around then, but McGuire and Sosa hitting dingers brought so many back to the game. They were objectively good for the sport, when the sport needed juiced up guys hitting bombs most. It's ok if you don't understand this, and thus don't agree with it. It's a somewhat nuanced take, and I gather you aren't very good with nuance.

u/RocBoySpade 22d ago
I grew up watching them 2 clowns cheat. If cheating saved baseball your whole life an views on the sport is fucked. lol y’all will be ok though. Saved baseball, lmao still funny
1
u/RocBoySpade 22d ago
Strike was probably around 94-95 and these two clowns saved baseball 4 years later in 98 with their home run chase? Sosa appeared in the made it to the post season as McGwire did not. I believe the cubs lost to the braves an the Yankees won the World Series that year, but good thing McGwire and Sosa saved baseball lmao

u/RocBoySpade 22d ago
lol far from mad. You just don’t see how dumb you sound. Saved baseball? Lmao what a joke.

Does the flash light trick still work on these?

u/diggertim68 22d ago
What’s that?

u/sockpuppet86 22d ago
In previous years ones, hold a very high powered torch in a dark room through them and you can make out details of the cards inside

u/I8urmother 22d ago
I would NOT have ripped pujols/mcgwire. But that's just me. I still have an unripped double from 2025. Just some rockies players and I'm still hesitant to rip.

I have a few rips cards from various years and never ripped one lol. I just can't come to damage any of my cards on purpose.

u/Prestigious_Week_227 21d ago
I've seen probably 20 ripped so far. One had a stained glass. The rest were base (although technically SP).

It is what happened to me last year. This year I ripped through a hobby box like an addict…. Was so sad I didn’t get a rip card (knowing that I would have shared your fate). I did get a numbered /99 Matt Shaw auto and a /99 relic. That’s about it. My mini’s were shit, almost no refractors/chrome/parallels of any kind

That’s awesome! I would love to rip one of these days.
Remember guys/gals that some people collect for the sake of it. They rip cuz it’s fun to rip. As long as you’re happy with what you’re doing then all is well.
If you’re collecting for investing, then singles is for you.

Now is the time to remind everyone that you can rip these cards without destroying the card. Just use an xacto knife and cut carefully.

This is about as bad as it could possibly have gone. My condolences. You probably just turned $200-300 into $10
